Max's Allegheny Tavern - Pittsburgh - Photo album

A great find for lovers of German food served in a cozy tavern setting. Veal is not common on local menus so nice to find here. The very large cuts at reasonable prices was offset by low quality veal however. Nonetheless, a good find. The player “piano”is unique in that it combines the piano with an
My host recommended this as a local favorite and what a gem! Max's has apparently been a German restaurant for over 100 years and the history and love really shows. Hands down some of the best sausage I've ever had--not salty or fatty in the least, but juicy and tender and flavorful. I usually don'
Went there for authentic pierogis. And Max’s didn’t disappoint. Very cool atmosphere. The brat wasn’t the best but I’ve been to Germany recently and have high standards for that.
This place was within walking distance to our hotel and to PNC Stadium (Pirates game) We were seated right away and the staff was attentive and friendly. I loved the atmosphere and our waitress was great. We will definitely eat here again!
We had a few drinks at Allegheny City Brewing and wanted something to eat so we walked to Max's. Glad we found this place! Interesting history. Love how they have been around forever. Super friendly staff and good food. The apple raisin dressing on the pork was unique. Loved the German potato salad.
Loved the old original woodwork and floor. Food and service were excellent!
Dinner with friends. Biggest complaint - too many choices that looked great. We all enjoyed what we picked. Potato pancakes were a hit. Could use a little refresh inside but didn't take away from our dinner.
Our world, as it is nowadays, is exhausting. Just trying to maneuver doing ordinary stuff has suddenly become complicated. So when my friends and I were in the neighborhood of Max's Allegheny Tavern and decided to do lunch there, we were transported to a time when things were simple and right and
Max's is just wonderful. The atmosphere is just great. The servers are wonderful very friendly. The food was delicious and hot the schnitzel was tender. The Reuben is great and crunchy. The potato pancakes are off the chain. I prefer applesauce over sour cream but it's up to you. Prices are reasonab
We flew in from three different cities to celebrate my birthday. We went to Max's for lunch. Jan was our server and she was fantastic!! Several people joined our party and she kept up with everything. The food was delicious, the service was great, and I will definitely eat here again my next trip to
This is our favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. We eat here all the time. I try something new all the time time but always get the stuff pretzels. Highly recommend.
Delicious German food and friendly staff. Kielbasa nachos and a meat and cheese plate are on the appetizer menu and are very tasty! There are plenty of choices from snacks and sandwiches to entrees and dessert. Great beer list, too!
Stopped in because I really wanted some pierogis while in Pit. I sat at the bar and had a dark lager, the house soup, and an order of pierogis. Bartender was perfectly on top of service, pricing was reasonable. Soup was salty but a tiny bit bland. Would’ve liked more chunks in there. Pierogis were n
Great atmosphere and a whole lot more. Many items on the menu with reasonable prices. Great old decor and woodwork throughout. The potatoe pancake Reuben was very good! Will visit again to try more Great food
Been coming here for 30 years. Very good food. Good portions and not expensive. Great variety of German food and generic/non German food. Excellent service.
First off, you should make a reservation, this is a VERY popular place to eat! There is no parking lot for or near this establishment. Parking is on street only and very hit or miss. If you see a spot with a folded chair in it, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, move the chair. IN Pittsburgh, this is com
Max's Allegheny Tavern boasts an impressive menu filled with delectable German-inspired dishes. The flavors were simply outstanding, and the presentation was equally impressive.
