Review Piccolo Forno - Pittsburgh

Madeline Spruill Cononge
The food was so good, some unique takes on classic Italian. We got the lasagna and the hot sausage pizza. We also got a house salad and bread (the bread is so good, worth the money) and all of it was great. It is a little crowded but we got lucky with the window table in the front so we had plenty of room. Service was good.

Always enjoy this place! Excellent food. A tad crowded, but it does create a lively ambiance. Service has always been exceptional here. They make you feel like family. It's BYOB, but you can purchase drinks at the bar behind the restaurant (though I haven't tried that yet). Outdoor seating when it's nice out. Their bread baskets are especially delightful.

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city. It is small so you should call ahead and get a reservation. It is BYOB and they charge a corking fee BUT if you get your wine from their bar around the corner, Grapperia, they waive the corking fee. We got two bottles at Grapperia and brought them in easily for our party of four. For dinner, I recommend trying one of the antipasto or a pizza as your appetizer. We ordered the antipasti platter, the bread basket, and the cacio e pepe polenta. The pasta dishes do change every so often, but I have never had a bad pasta dish or pizza here. Even if you’re stuffed, you HAVE to get the tiramisu to finish. It’s incredible. Last night, I had the cannelloni, my boyfriend had the tortelli, and we split the tiramisu.

My partner and I held a family style dinner for the day we got married. It was fantastic! The events manager helped answer our questions and get us all set up in terms of the menu and logistics. The staff on the day of the dinner was great and everything was well spaced and professionally done. We have always enjoyed eating at Piccolo Forno, and this family style dinner exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend!

Amazing, great quality food and service. Very friendly and welcoming staff. It was my first time here at this restaurant and I would definitely go here again.

Yummy!!! Came on a whim didn't think we could get a table but we did. Our waiter Remi was so nice and very informative. Food was amazing.

I’ve dined twice here, both had great food and service. For appetizer, mushroom burrata and cauliflower are quite unique here. The pistachio pizza is to die for! Pasta-wise, spinach tagliatelle and garganelli go well with sausages which add some saltiness. The tiramisu is amazing, it has a lemon taste and is probably one of the best ones I’ve had.

Great food at decent prices with friendly and relatively fast service. We tried polpette, two types of pasta and panna cotta. The only complaint was the space is a bit crowded, and other customer might bump into you. Will come back again for the pizza!

Very nice neighborhood Italian restaurant that is more than just a wood fired pizza place. Get the anti pasta. Nice selection. The waiter described everything that was plated. The homemade pasta was great. Had the rabbit sauce which was nice. Good quality food with good service for a good price.

I travel extensively for work and dine out often, so I rely on recommendations from local people. I can't recommend this restaurant enough!! I have traveled to Italy several times and have not tasted more authentic, truly delicious fare than Piccolo Forno. Every dish was so freshly prepared and the spices were so enjoyable, the taste danced in my mouth! My absolute favorite is the spaghetti made with crab and shrimp, possibly my favorite dish EVER. Please don't imagine traditional spaghetti, it's not even close. Another huge bonus is that it's BYOB, with a cork fee of only 6 dollars for wine or beer, really whatever you drink. They own a liquor store next door and if you purchase it there, the fee is waived. That saved us quite a bit of money. I wanted to take a picture of my dinner but there was not a single crumb left! That is incredible considering I Always have leftovers that I rarely eat. I also can't say enough about Julia, our server, simply the best. One last thing, it was so amazing, we ate there twice in a row.

The service and atmosphere were impeccable. Really enjoyed the peach risotto paired with the wine that my friend and I brought to the restaurant. The spaghetti that we had was not very seasoned but I absolutely enjoyed the experience and will be back!

FINALLY! After moving from New Haven, CT (pizza capital of the USA), I've been desperately trying to find excellent pizza here in Pittsburgh. Piccolo Forno is now my go-to place. The ingredients are fresh, the crust is perfect, the sauce is decadent. If you want to experience true & authentic Italian fare (and pizza inspired by the Tuscan style), look no further. I will definitely return. The desserts are also delicious.

The food was terrific, and the wait staff was some of the best I've ever experienced. Great atmosphere and killer food. It's a must try and worth traveling for.

Was recommended this restaurant before our trip, and made a special trip to this part of town just to try it. We were not disappointed. Had pizza and Cavatelli. My son said the pizza was the best he has had. The crust was perfect. I had the Cavatelli and it was good. Also had a capachino and it was very good. Waiter was great, friendly, quick. Will absolutely go back next time we are in Pittsburgh.

Being Italian, it's hard to go out to a restaurant to order Italian food. Nothing beats my grandmother's traditional Italian cooking but I'll say, out of all of the Italian restaurants in Pittsburgh, Piccolo Forno comes quite close. Great ambiance, impeccable service and the restaurant boasts a diverse menu. I've only had great dining experiences here. If you’re looking for Tuscan lasagna, Piccolo Forno is as close to Firenze’s lasagna as you can get in Pittsburgh. Made with Bechamel, it’s a must-have!

Haven't been to Piccolo in a long time and still as good as ever! We went for a late lunch and got the the Lasagna and Tortelli dishes. Everything was on point and service was very attentive. Finished with Tiramisu to cap off a great experience.

Service is fantastic. The food is pretty good. It was a crowded, late Friday evening. The noise in the restaurant was a little over-the-top - people using their voices to compete with the music. The antipasto plate was the average. The quality of the meat was good. The cheese were not anything special. The focaccia didn't have that extra special hint of oil or crunch that I love so much about that kind of bread. The best thing about the spinach ravioli was it the spinach was very fresh and that they used real butter. The lasagna didn't have zippers s that I look for when Italian sausage is used in a dish. So it was a little flat. The muscles were acceptably cooked but the sauce was again subpar. The special gnocchi this was a little on the strange side and perhaps my palate is not adventurous enough to have embraced it. I would give it another try. But I will probably not actively seek out this restaurant again.

Very good Tuscan food, however it is BYOB with a cork fee. The food was delicious. It is not the typical spaghetti and meatball places. My wife ordered Spaghetti with Spinach and I ordered Perecchi (sp) with a Rabbit sauce. Good service and staff. Worth trying again.
