Review Central Diner & Grille - Pittsburgh

Andrew Powell
My review was based on breakfast. The food was delicious. I ordered eggs over easy with sausage and toast. It can with home fries. Everything was perfectly cooked. The sausage links were large and extremely flavorful. Also to note, we got our food in less than ten minutes after ordering. It was FAST. The atmosphere was nice and clean. It is a nice setting. We were there on a Saturday morning but it wasn't really getting busy until we left around 9:30. The bathroom wasn't super clean when we were there but it appeared to be maintained on a regular basis. The waitress was professional and quick. She did a great job keeping things there and making sure we were taken care of. Would definitely recommend. We will try to make it back for another meal at some point.

Ok, I am a diner guy. I am driven past this place many times but never had time to stop. On this trip I made the time and boy, am I glad I did I had one of their skillet breakfast. And to be quite honest it could have served two, the portion size was so large! It was very tasty. Heck, I give them five stars for just making sure that toast with buttered correctly. Service was diner good. A little sassy, but just right You can dine in doors or outside in one of two different patios. I will definitely be going back!

Been hearing about this place from my lady for almost a year. Finally went there. Everything - OUTSTANDING. I got one of the specials - Salmon and Crabcake. Besides the salad (get their house dressing, yum), my other side was pasta with garlic in olive oil. The garlic florets in there were like candy. Service was superior - friendly and fast. Definitely will be back.

I have eaten there a half a dozen times- the turkey dinner is AMAZING. I've never had breakfast there, but I have also tried the Reuben which was decent and the veggie wrap which was just OK. My biggest complaint is people were telling me how good their tiramisu is, so I got a slice to go. It was TINY. 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" like I've never had such a small piece of tiramisu anywhere. I even questioned the waitress who boxed it up and she said "that's how big it is." The taste was great but I'm sorry it was just two bites worth.

We went on a Sunday morning and it was very busy but we only had to wait for 10 minutes. We had an omelet and french toast, and everything was very good and fresh. The waitress was attentative and friendly, and we never went without a coffee refill. I only really have two complaints that stick out. There's nowhere to sit and wait when you get there, and I was trying to avoid colliding with the kitchen staff the whole time. When it's busy, there's a mess in the front when you are trying to pay your bill. They don't take your check at the table, and it causes a mass of people waiting to pay the bill, to be stuck with the other mass of people waiting to be seated. Can get chaotic.

What an ABSOLUTE INCREDIBLE experience we had at this restaurant! Traveling back from the Youngstown Flea made us super hungry. We refused to succumb to fast food. This establishment DID NOT disappoint. Everything was satisfying and tasty. Great portions. And let’s not forget Aiden, who provided the best customer service we have had in a very very long time. Many blessings to the Owners and their staff!

Hopping place, and great service. My husband loved his shrimp dish and talked about the fish being really flaky. I think I either just ordered the wrong thing, or was anticipating a different taste for the dressing. I'm southern and on the spectrum, so it threw me off. The turkey was tender and tasted good, but the dressing had a harder crust than I'm used to. Our server could tell I didn't care for it, but I told her it would take too long to re-do. In retrospect, I suppose I could have asked for something else. Good experience overall, I think it may just not have been what I personally was hoping for.

I love Central Diner. I've never had bad food or service here. The food is absolutely delicious! I come here when I need a home-cooked meal. Paula is a great waitress! She was very personable and was great at her job.

Charming and modernized atmosphere, and the staff was friendly. It can however get very packed and loud. It can unfortunately feel cold inside friendly on where you're sitting, and since the staff "supposedly" can't control the air conditioning, I recommend bringing a light jacket. The seats near the windows are a bit squeaky, and the backboard is flimsy. Someone sitting behind us was moving around a lot, and it kept knocking us forward. As for the food, they have good omelets, coffee and milkshakes. The Chocolate one tastes like Nesquik. I felt the home fries were bland and sloppy, and the bacon was too crunchy for my taste. That being said, the breakfast was overall affordable and satisfactory. I find it noteworthy to mention that my family and I have already dined here twice, yet my experience hasn't really changed...

After multiple, equally enchanting visits to Central Diner, I find my thoughts converging to a delightful consensus - this is an extraordinary culinary hub bustling with unmatched fervor and a lip-smacking array of dishes. Right from the moment you step in, Central Diner presents to you an atmosphere that's brimming with the bustle of a warmly engaging clientele – an unmistakable sign of a popular and well-loved eatery with a near-perpetual pulse of activity. Yet, despite its ceaseless hustle, this restaurant has an uncanny ability to feel welcoming and personalized on every visit. As if each visit is your first, inviting you into a space both familiar and full of discovery. It's more than an establishment; it's an experience, a gastronomic adventure waiting to be savored afresh each time. The menu, an eclectic mix full of tantalising choices, manages to impress every palate, traversing the spectrum from those seeking comfortable familiarity to those seeking culinary excitement. Despite numerous visits, each unfolded a new facet of what this eatery has to offer. An integral part of the Central Diner experience is the staff. The waitress on our recent visit stood out with her proficient service, diving deep into professional empathy to ensure that we were taken care of to the fullest extent. The warmth in her service added that essential touch of personalization often absent in many of today's dining experiences. Moving on to the food, the Chicken Parm here has proven to be an absolute show-stopper. Served generously, it was delectably seasoned and could easily front for more than a couple of courses. Each bite invited another, making it a dish you'd love to come back for. The Poutine was another star dish. Not only was it served in a satisfyingly large portion, but it also hit all the right flavor notes. It was like a sumptuous feast dressed as a side. To sum up, Central Diner, with its vibrant ambiance, delectable variety of food, outstanding service, and generous portions, truly stands out as a beacon of bustling gastronomic joy. While the world outside rushes on, inside, life slows down to enjoy some extraordinary food, one mouthwatering bite at a time. This restaurant serves not just meals, but moments, making it a vital part of the city's ever-dynamic culinary landscape.

Absolutely incredible! I was in town because I was going to Kennywood, and it ended up being so good that I came here three times in the span of 48 hours - a steady Friday night at 5:30pm (6/9), a calm late Saturday night at 9:30pm (6/10), and a very busy Sunday morning at 11am (6/11). The service was phenomenal. I had Seth as my server on Friday night and Sunday morning, and he was super attentive and friendly. I had Kaylei as my server on Saturday night, and she was also friendly. The food is where it really shines though! Friday night, I had a side salad and bread as my starter and egg salad as my entrée. The salad was a great portion, the bread was great, and the egg salad was good and filling. I also got a side of fries, which were good. Saturday night, I had a side salad and mozzarella sticks to start. Both were great - the mozzarella sticks were some of the best I’ve ever had. My entrée was the spanakopita with fried rice. The spanakopita was great, and the fried rice was tasty. For dessert, I enjoyed their strawberry cheesecake. Absolutely phenomenal. I still have dreams about that cheesecake. On Sunday morning, I had the scrambler skillet with toast. Outside of my usual meal at a local café in my hometown, this is genuinely the best breakfast meal I’ve ever had. It was delicious and filling. Keep in mind they do not skimp out on their portions. I had a ton of leftovers from Friday night and Saturday night, and I definitely learned to back off of ordering too much food! I also want to give this place a shoutout for being vegetarian-friendly. I have a heck of a time finding options when traveling, so to have plenty of options to choose from AND be very satisfied with the quality and quantity is a huge accomplishment in my book. Overall, this is my new favorite out-of-state restaurant, and I will absolutely be returning whenever I’m back in Pittsburgh! Thank you for making this hungry Hoosier super happy!

My wife and I got introduced to this restaurant by a friend in this state. We do agree with her that this is a great restaurant. The service was quite nice as the staff were friendly and attentive this morning. We had gotten lost into conversation, and our server informed us that when we were ready to simply close our menus. I thought this was a nice touch that I hadn't experienced before. Once we were ready, we shut all the menus, and our server returned to the table. The food was very good. We all ended up getting the veggie skillet with slightly different veggies. The food came out swift and hot! Everything was quite flavorful. My only dislike is that I would have preferred the veggies to be cooked extra. More specifically, the potatoes could have been crisper. The atmosphere here was warm and welcoming. Plenty of people had friendly conversations and laughter. This restaurant was very lively. We didn't get any. However. This location does serve alcoholic beverages.

I was thinking I would have to wait but when we came in they had a place. The parking lot was packed. The owner actually bussed the table for us real quick. That was very cool. Our waitress Kelly s. Had a good sense of timing and she came back enough to be good but not enough to pester. The food was quick considering how busy they were. It was cooked well. We were all thinking this is how a restaurant should run. Everyone had a position so wait staff wasn't doing other people's jobs. We were impressed. Good experience.

Great service and food. We will definitely come back. We hear their lemon chicken soup is amazing.
