Went for dinner and a couple of drinks while up at our cabin in Piney Creek. Always look forward to going here, but prices have gone a bit higher. Loved the sinful margherita!! I had the scallops, and my husband had a strip steak while my granddaughter got a burger. They were all very good ! We also had a slice of sweet potato cheese cake! So good! We went again in October 2023. I love Kelly and all the girls. They are awesome! I had the catfish with succotash and tomato jam, while my husband had the duck, with tasty roasted veggies. Great little place in Piney Creek. The fish spread and fresh made pita chips are the bomb! You must stop in, but be prepared for a wait. It's worth it!
Small place with good food and friendly faces. Most everybody was chatting with other customers in the restaurant. Very comfortable. A small bar and outside tables offer options for seating. Nice decor with great photos and artwork. Food was really delicious. Not McDonald's pricing or speed. Staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive.
Come relax and enjoy a change of pace meal.
The place is small but cozy. We did not have reservations and waited about an hour but it was nice to have a drink and sit outside. The turkey burgers were great. Prices good. Fries and salad good. Very inventive and flavorful. A bit of a drive but kinda nice to have a beautiful drive in the country. We will be back.

I love giving a great review and this one come with a story! My husband and I just bought a house in Jefferson, NC. We read about the restaurant Red Dog & Bistro in Piney Creek. Off we went. Alas we realized we left our credit cards at home. Who would believe us new comers? The owner Julie thankfully did and gave us the OK to call in our payment later. We also had a friend from Nantucket in common too. So sitting in this lovely simply decorated place with the sounds of joy coming from the tables, we gratefully ate our delicious meal. "THE BEST HAMBURGER I HAVE EVER HAD MY HUSBAND DECLARED!" "MY PEAR SALAD SCREAMED ITS FRESHNESS." SAID ME. Kelly the Bar Manager made our drinks perfectly with the warmest smile ever. Lovely Hannah with her quick humor traded barbs about our cardless status and we all laughed. An evening of great food, welcoming attitude and enjoying our this special place. Great news they are opening in West Jefferson too. MORAL OF THIS REVIEW. To err is human.to forgive you get to dine. Thank you Red Dog & Bistro.

Kelly and Hannah are the BEST. The chef is top notch. I love the Shitake mushroom burger, and the shrimp appetizer is the best ever. Highly recommend.
Quaint place in the middle of nowhere (if you aren’t from the area). Cool decorating style and a tremendously awesome Reuben on Sour Dough bread. Prices are what they are, food was good though, and a friendly staff.
I had read the reviews and expected this place to be good, but I did not expect it to be this good! You'll find mostly sandwiches here and they are absolutely delicious. I was told that they came from the farm across the street and we're very fresh. It was absolutely outstanding. The fries were also amazing. The place was only open for 4 hours on Sunday and the time we're there with the very busy. You can always tell a good restaurant when it's crowded with locals. The bartender is also a lot of fun.
Come here every visit to Alleghany. Worth the trip. Everything I ever had from the menu is great. Staff must be happy people. I’ve always enjoyed their hospitality. Sometimes a long wait but well worth it. Great bar and bartender and beautiful patio area when weather is warm.
Amazing place off the beaten path. Food was truly gourmet quality. Great selection of drafts and spirits. Bartender was friendly and very skilled. Will make the trip again!
