Review Roy's Restaurant - Desert Ridge - Phoenix

Awesome restaurant with a very delicious menu of Hawaiian and Japanese influenced seafood dishes. The spicy tuna roll was very well done. The crispy chicken spring rolls were crispy and flavorful. The duck sauce you dip it in really makes it. That mahi mahi was seared perfectly. And the sauce compliments it well. Seafood sampler was delicious as well. We sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and took great care of us.

JW Marriott location is still open (Tempe/Chandler closed) but only until April 26. Asian fusion with some turf but heavy surf. Appetizer spicy Szechuan spiced pork spare ribs (4...we ate 2 before pic) were fall off bone tender and flavorful. Highly recommend the Classic Four entree for a sampling of most fish entrees on menu including side veggie sampling that goes with each plus furikake rice on side which was perfect to mix with the fish sauces. The salmon and "butterfish" cod were perfectly cooked medium. Macadamia nut crusted fish of this day was sea bass. 4th was the blackened Ahi tuna with ginger side. Finished satisfied but not stuffed. Wife got the beef short rib butterfish combo which came with rice. Holly was a great server - knowledgeable but not pretentious. Valet parking is partially validated in the restaurant. Don't self park unless you want to walk several hundred yards and still have to pay - no exaggeration. Casual dress. Happy hour options look good. We'll be back.

Welcoming staff, amazing atmosphere we sat outside was magical night with the tiki lights on and the moonlight. Food super delicious . For people who don't like seafood like my husband they do have a selection of non seafood on the website you can order from that. All over it was an excellent experience.

Excellent food, but pricey. Come during their happy hour “Aloha”, from 2:59pm-6pm and 8:00pm to close for $7-$9-$11 appetizers. I love their Wagyu sliders, and Pork ribs. Friendly servers and staff. They currently have special deal on Sundays for Lobster tails. $34 for a 3 course Lobster tail dinner, or $44 for 2 large lobster tails. Great flavor, and nice way to pamper yourself. The Mahalo Mondays are a $49 menu. Choose any appetizer, except Sushi, or the appetizer for two people. Any entree, and a dessert. First I got a $17 Pork rib appetizer. Then I got the Filet Mignon, plus lobster tail entree, which by itself sells for $64. And finally a great Key lime tart for dessert. They’re kid friendly, with a nice 3 course meal for $12.95, plus a beverage, too. The only negative on our most recent visit is we waited for 6-7 minutes for a host to come to the front to seat us. And it wasn’t a very busy night.

What an amazing dining experience! Everything from the food, to the service was impeccable. The scallops melt in your mouth, and the sushi was out of this world. I highly recommend the ebi roll to start out with, and then the shellfish sampler. The lobster bisque was also superb. My girlfriend had the parmesean and bacon crusted Chilean sea bass, and said it was the best white fish she had ever eaten. Our server Cole gets a special shout out, he took excellent care of us not just once, but both times we dined in. He's the man! Tldr: Eat here, it is worth the cost

Always loved this place even though it has been many years since we visited. Its pricey (even their kids menu is $$$) but worth it. Now we have a crazy kid, so this time we only did happy hour, to make it easier for us to run out when she gets hyper. Happy hour did not disappoint. Drinks were strong and food was delicious. Atmosphere is wonderful, makes me feel like I am back in Hawaii, especially out on the patio with the tiki torches on. We already know we will be back, most likely for my birthday.

Took my whole family here recently, and we all loved it. Service was good, food was great, and atmosphere was nice. The kids meals all came with a little appetizer plate of a quesadilla and veggies - so cute! We got the filet and the mahi mahi, and they were both perfect. We will be back for a special occasion.

Roy's is an excellent restaurant with delicious seafood dishes, drinks, an elegant yet relaxed ambiance, and attentive service. The restaurant is located at the beautiful JW Marriott resort at Desert Ridge. The lobster bisque and sushi were tasty. The classic combo is a must try dish. I am looking forward to trying out different dishes in the future.

Even in February, we sit outside! Roy's has an amazing patio for outdoor dining with patio heaters and a firetable. Your views include palm trees and a well landscaped property by Marriott. I had the scallop feature and their dragon roll appy was delightful. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere.

Having lived in Hawaii, it is always great to come back to some Aloha. Roy's is always exceptional, and this location is exactly that. The service is amazing and the food is wonderful. The restaurant is a little tricky to find, however just ask the valets and they will lead the way.

Went here for Valentine's day and it was an amazing experience! The fixed menu was spectacular and so fancy, I enjoyed every bite from the amuse bouche to the dark chocolate tarte.

Awesome experience. We're away from family due to COVID, so we were looking for a good, traditional Thanksgiving dinner. This was terrific. Thank you Misty for your great service.

First time here. Had their Thanksgiving meal. Excellent, excellent lobster bisque! Stuffing and potatoes were good, but very small portions. Lots of turkey, but was rubbery and very salty. Green beans and carrots way undercooked. They forgot the cranberries listed on the menu for all 4 of us. Dessert was just okay, but fresh whipped cream was a nice touch. Beautiful grounds, nice atmosphere. Server very cheerful and let us relax and enjoy ourselves.

My husband and I have dined at Roys's many times and normally rave about the food. We had planed to dine with another couple last night but at the last moment they were not able to join us. I'm so glad now that they had to cancel because after telling them what a great restaurant Roy's was we were sadly disappointed. We waited for an hour and 15 min for our appetizer and had to ask for the seasoned edamame that used to come quickly without request. I ordered the grilled caesar salad-which turned out to be a wedge of lettuce with 4 croutons and a drizzle of dressing. Had to request more dressing on the side so I was not eating dry lettuce. We both ordered the lobster and filet, the lobster was served with no butter or lemon and over cooked. The filet while well cooked had no seasoning what-so-ever, not even a dash of salt just the char taste from the grill. We had them box the steak and brought it home to the dogs. The plating of the food was also not up to "fine dining" standards. While the server was very nice, we did not see much of her and therefore would have to rate the service as terrible, even though they were not that busy. This restaurant used to be one of my favorites and now I don't think I will ever dine there again. Sad to say!

We love Roy's We have been going here for years, they have the best food, drinks & atmosphere. Always a friendly staff & very accommodating. I would highly recommend it to anyone. My husband & I went to another upscale place in the valley for dinner & didn't even compare to Roy's, we wished we would had gone to Roy's, the place we know and love. We had my parents 50th wedding anniversary party here a few years ago & it was amazing. Love, Love, Love Roy's at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge

Sat in the outdoor patio. Did not have a reservation so was quite happy to have a cocktail and wait an hour Finally seated at a table that was so dark we could not read the menu. Obviously, not an exclusive problem for us as the couple to our left was reading their menus with a cellphone light. Requested to be moved and that was received with raised eyebrow, not what we expected. Eventually relocated to a table on the outside perimeter of the area which was well lit but very chilli. Unfortunately, the heater assigned to our table had run out of propane. I'm amazed that someone is not responsible to ensure that cannot happen in a restaurant of this calibre. Our waiter was excellent however his assistant was unprofessional and very sloppy. We ordered the swordfish and Mahi Mahi which tasted as we had expected. However, the presentation was disgraceful. My husband plate had obviously not been carried correctly and the sauce was spread all over the plate. That, in and of itself should be been returned to the kitchen for replating but that plate was served, together with the servers THUMB PRINT in the sauce on the side of the plate. Yikes people......we can get that at Dennys and not pay $150.00 for the privilege. Coffee was served in a cup with dried coffee stains all over it. Not sure if the pouring was sloppy or if the cup had never even washed! We are Marriott owners of many many years and our special night out at the end of every trip is dinner at Roys. Sorry to say this one was memorable for all the wrong reasons. I rated a three which was very generous, and based solely on the actual food preparation. The rest left a lot to be desired. You have spoiled us and we are absolutely not used to this poor quality service and lack of attention to details Thanks Teri

I sat at the bar to enjoy a peaceful evening by myself with a good book. I made it 2 minutes before happy hour was over and was graciously given the opportunity to order off of that menu. My martini was well made and the lobster potstickers were extremely good. My main coarse was the filet mignon which was to die for! I topped off my dinner with a little desert wine and a lime dish that was light and not over powering. The customer service was simply amazing. The bartender checked in often but didn't smother. He also had a very pleasant demeanor. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Roy’s never disappoints. Impeccable service, relaxing atmosphere, and great food. They were busy and yet we felt special and never rushed. Our dinner conversation over Hawaiian Martinis ,Canoe for two, and sushi rolls, was time well spent planning out trip to Maui. Mahalo Roy’s! Special Birthday Celebrations here are unforgettable.

Unfortunately we will never be eating at Roy's again. This was the 3rd of poor dining experiences for us. When my husband and I go out for dinner, we enjoy the process and the best cuisine. We were disappointed from the moment we stepped into the Desert Ridge location. The hostess was extremely rude and our dinners were anything but the 5 star cuisine we expected. The meals were tasteless, meager, and way overpriced for what we received.

Fantastic food, great staff, very attentive to detail and making sure we were taken care of the entire dinning experience always refilling our water with out being asked, making sure to explain each course of food, and explaining the dessert menu as well,Great Job! The food was incredible, the atmosphere was great and I will definitely be back.

One of our favorite Happy Hour places. Love the outdoor patio and fireplaces. Good menu, excellent food and a nice variety to choose from for sharing.

It is always a treat for us to eat at Roy’s. My husband and I both enjoyed the entrees that we ordered. I had the combination of Butterfish and short ribs. He had the Asian stuffed chicken breasts. We would order each again.

We went with a Groupon for two prix fixe meals from a limited menu -- and felt the prejudice. Salmon was the tail piece, dry, and fishy. Rice was ice cold. Roast chicken was tough and stringy. Service was spotty. Meals and desserts did not arrive all at the same time. The manager did not check in with us although came to the table to approve the Groupon. Wait staff at least comped my uneaten salmon and one dessert in our party. I was a fan during the flagship days of Roy's on Oahu, when dining was a flawless and impressive experience. I've watched its decline, and now I am over it.

What a great place. Not one Roy's restaurant has ever disappointed. Thank you.

The food at Ry's Restaurant was very delicious and cooked to perfection.

A group of 8 friends went to Roys for a birthday celebration. The second within a week for the same person. 1st gathering was attended by 18 folks. Tonight 3/11/17, I went to Roys early 3:15 pm to request a table for 10. Restaurant wasn't open yet and manager Steve? Said that I could go somewhere else to wait - they weren't ready and not serving. That was ok and I understood their need for patio preparation. I asked if they could set up a table for 10 when they were setting up the patio. This did not happen until the guest of honor went to the patio and again requested a set up for our party. At 4:00 pm most of our party had arrived. We took the table that had then been set. Our waiter had the personity of a "Grinch". He acted put out with our presence and robotly went through motions of taking our order for food and drinks. About 4:30 the rest of our party arrived and we put in more food and drink orders. When our waiter brought them their drinks he spilled an entire cocktail down the back of one of our guests. He quickly left the table and later came back with a napkin and with a SNIDE REMARK "sorry, but I still have to charge for the drink". We ALL know accidents happen, but no sincere apology? Replacement drink was charged for and service continued to go down hill. I wrote a note to the manager and hand delivered it to him saying "if you don't know what's wrong you can't fix it" He took the note and said "thanks" but never came to our group to extend an apology or ANYTHING! I summoned another waiter and asked if he could take over our service - but I did not want to create a ruckus. He did take over our service and we concluded with a $283.99 bill for Happy Hour! I then sought out our "initial waiter" and have him a $10.00 cash tip, which he took and said "Sorry". I think it is clear and obvious that one of our groups FAVORITE spots for various celebrations has fallen off our list. This entire evening was a huge embarrassment to those of us who have raved about Roy's. The management and service was absolutely deplorable and inexcusable.
