Mario Brothers Pizza

There is no better feeling than sitting down and ordering a hot mushroom slice from Mario's. I've been coming here since I can remember being able to walk home school alone. I am now 21 and still have an attachment to this business and its employees. Coming here isn't just about having a meal to me, but is also about the experience of ordering a meal and enjoying inside the restaurant. I recommend you all try that too.

Pretty well priced and good-tasting pizza. I would go so far as to say it's one of the best pizzas you can get in Philadelphia. It's up to par with 69th Pizza, probably better than Pizza Hut or Little Caesar's. It's not quite New York pizza, but it's pretty good. Generous amounts of cheese and toppings. I paid $2 per slice each for pepperoni and mushrooms, and you can see the generous amount of mushrooms they put. The sauce, though, is kind of lackluster. It's not really sweet or anything. In fact, it doesn't stick out at all, like most places. Could be my palate, but in my experience, pizza sauces come pretty plain in Philly. There are some potential secret ingredients for pizza sauce like using anchovies or fish sauce that I wish people would experiment with, but I guess allergies keep people from attempting that. Sun dried tomatoes or shiitake mushrooms in the base would be some other high umami ingredients. But hey, I don't run a successful pizzeria, so what do I know?
