This place is hands down amazingly deliciously the best Jewish ... or general bakery in the city! The babka is a must! And the challah cannot be beat!

the nicest people, the best challah and babkah this side of Tel Aviv make this place just outstanding- I cannot wait to go back. <3
Cute walk up bakery (and if you’re lucky-seating at one of the few tables along the sidewalk). Fresh baked goods-their chocolate bread is amazing-and I even enjoyed it cold from the fridge the next day! On the weekend they make a special cinnamon hazelnut bread-sounds delicious and I will definitely try the next time I’m in town.
I had been craving a really good cinnamon bun in Philly and after some research I narrowed it down between Essen Bakery and a nearby competitor. We stopped by and ordered one of the cinnamon buns, a pear pop tart and another apricot pastry I’m forgetting the name of but was similar to a fruit danish.
The cinnamon bun delivered from the hype and was extremely good. We waited until we got home and put it in the air fry for a couple minutes to help warm it up. The bun was gooey and the icing was super delicious. Alongside this, we also warmed up the pop tart which also had great icing on top of a flaky pastry. I’ll definitely be back for the cinnamon bun!
Such a cute spot and everything I had was amazing. The apple cake was one of the best I’ve ever had! The bagels were fresh and super tasty and the cinnamon buns were phenomenal! I’ll def be back!
Been coming to Essen for a couple years and I love it. The croissant egg sandwich might be my favorite breakfast in life. It's hard boiled egg, labneh, and zataar forming a perfect combination of savory and smooth. They have rotating flavors of homemade pop tarts that are fun and delicious. Staples like challah, whitefish, and smoked salmon are always done perfectly. This place is a must visit for some of the best pastries and breakfast in the city.
Their Zaatar Challah is sooo good. Great croissants and other pastries. The babka is also good but not the best in Philly. But in general this is a stand out bakery and you can't go wrong with any of their offerings. Especially the Zaatar Challah - you must get this.
Great Jewish bakery in South Philly. It’s tiny and they will sellout quickly, especially on the weekend. Awesome bagels, Jewish apple cake and pretty much everything else. There is seating within the bakery, but only 3 or so tables so it’s more of a take out place. I
One of the best bakeries in town. All the breads are fresh, fluffy and flavorful! Make sure you grab one of their sandwiches when you stop by for a loaf of challah.
A gem on Passyunk! Babka is soft and chewy, just the right kind of chocolate, pairs well with coffee
The best Israeli food just like Israel that pluralistic country that unlike gaza allows gays to live and not throw gays off roofs
I found this gem somehow in my 3 day trip to Philly. It was a 30 min bus ride from my hotel and it was so worth it! I pre-ordered 6 bagels and 6 rugulach. When I got home, the very next morning I had a bagel.... delicious. The rugulach is on a whole nother level! So delicious! I'm going to be dreaming about them.
