Review Common Wealth Old City - Philadelphia

Came here for brunch and we all enjoyed the delicious southern style food in a nice cozy atmosphere. Potatoes were somewhat over cooked; service was decent - could smile a bit more:) otherwise I do like their brunch.

Great quality food. I went on my 1hr lunch break for brunch with my best friend. We had plenty of time for a drink and to eat. Service was quick. I ordered the Southern Comfort Benedict. It was amazing. Will be returning.

I went to Common Wealth for brunch. And if theres one thing I love more than brunch, it's southern food. Well, this place delivered on both. The staff was extremely friendly, the food was flavourful, and the cocktails were unique. You definitely want to check this place out.

I'm becoming a fan of this place. I've been for a weekday lunch twice recently, and once for dinner during restaurant week- that was a rookie mistake, and I should've known better. Service has consistently been on point, my friends are always surprised by how good their coffee is. I really enjoyed the Shrimp Po Boy, next time I'll get to work on their cocktail list!

This is without a doubt the best restaurant in Philadelphia! We ordered the stew, watermelon salad and braised short rib, each of which tasted amazing! The wait staff was very welcoming and attentive. Last but not least, my wallet felt good afterwards as well.

Service was friendly and food was amazing! Girlfriend said it was one of the best soups she ever had during restaurant week.

Went there for brunch. We are picky eaters and we're visiting town, and this place really amazed us. The food presentation might need a little tweak but the over all flavor was absolutely Amazing! It taste like homemade food. The service was great, genuine and sweet.

Wonderful neighborhood, close to Franklin Fountain Ice Cream! Nice, chill atmosphere and wonderful, simple, rustic decor. Unfortunately, the first impression was the loud noise, perhaps because Wednesday is $3 off wines (we came at 7pm). So definitely a negative. The wait time is also slow. When the food came, we were excited. The portions were decent, and we were definitely full (2 small plates, the shrimp and grits, and fries). The plating was nice, though the color was not vibrant, and so presentation wasn't the best. The taste is solid, especially the others and the shrimp and grits. The scallops were a tad over for me. Overall, worthwhile, potentially if you purchase a Groupon, which I did. Would have been three stars or so without the Groupon.

The service was very attentive and i really enjoyed sitting outside on the side patio. The peanut hummus was excellent and we shared the beef short rib. I am a big fan of the whole menu with the influence on Southern Cuisine from Charleston. The bar did a perfect cocktail. I look forward to returning very soon.

Had another couple in town for the weekend and went to 4 Fathers this past Saturday for brunch. I had the Kennett Pride Mushroom Omelette and a Bloody Mary...very delicious. My wife had the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich while my friend ordered the Country Fried Chicken biscuit. She was raving about the gravy. We sat outside overlooking Market Street,. Nick, our waiter was attentive and our food came out timely. Overall great experience.

I recently came here with a party of 20+ for a after holiday party. Although we probably took up more room in the back then they are used to, the entire staff was very nice and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the chicken and waffle sliders. For the amount of people we had there the price was extremely reasonable. I hope to be back there again soon.

Common Wealth was ver cozy and nicely decorated. Greeters were warm and friendly, making us feel at home. There is a great selection of cocktails and draft beer available. The small plates and soups are great to start and the pork belly is fantastic! Even our two year old enjoyed it! We did sandwiches: fried green tomato and cheese steak and both were great. Very enjoyable dinner!

This is a great place. Very comfortable and welcoming. Jen the manager and Joe the barkeep are both on point. Joe makes a sensational Hendricks with fresh muddled cucumber. Friendly place. If you are staying at the Wyndham around the block forget every other joint on Market and duck into CWOC. Short rib to die for. One of the best burgers in the city. Low country cooking with toned down flair and authenticity. Oysters are more on point than Jen and Joe, well close anyway. It's the perfect prelude to a stogey at Harry's on 3rd. Give it a shot you'll love Common Wealth.

Looked forward to eating here for many months. My mom is in town so my wife and I decided to take her to brunch this last Sunday. Made a reservation on open table for 1:30. We arrived early and had a drink at the bar. The bartender seemed preoccupied and we did not feel warmly welcomed. The space is very nice though with outdoor seating, we asked for a table by the open window looking out to the street. Our server was prompt with water for us to drink. She took our order and informed me that the shrimp and grits was not available. That was the main reason I chose this place because of that dish. I decided on pork belly hash instead, minutes later she came back out and said that was not available either. I couldn't have been more disappointed. I said I didn't want anything but decided on biscuits and gravy. Within minutes my plate came out and that was it, my family looked at me and we sat and waited. We were about to leave when another server came it with the other plates. My experience was ruined by that time. Biscuits were flat and hard, gravy was so so, a little thin. The potatoes lacked any seasoning and tasted like they were done quickly in a fryer. My wife ordered the Croque Madame, the bread was tough but the guyere was nutty and salty as it should have been. This was the best dish of the three. Mom ordered the country Benedict. It was described as cheddar biscuit, poached egg and fried chicken with a sausage gravy. One egg was poached perfectly while the other was more hard boiled texture. Unfortunately we will not be back. Was really looking forward to a great brunch experience.

It was ok! I really wanted to love this place! The atmosphere is awesome and it is located right across from Franklin court, but the food is so so and the service was kind of bad! I'm a server, so I try to give understanding when possible. Even though our waitress seemed nice and friendly we hardly saw her and we where left with empty drinks and questions a lot! They only had two tables in the place besides ours . I got the turkey and Brie and it was just kind of plane and the chips where really hard. We ended up having to grab another waiter and he keep us in drinks and a clean table, there was only two people in our party too so it was not like there was a lot of us, they do have some waiters that keep attention! It's just sad because it looked like a cool place!

My wife raved about this place (she went during the last Restaurant Week) and she was excited to take me. Here is what I had and my review on each: - Boardroom DirtyVodka Martini: terrible! Very watery. As if they used half water/half olive-brine. Olives had no taste whatsoever. Just plain terrible. Worst martini that I've ever had and I've had plenty - Soup: She-Crab Soup: I was REALLY looking forward to this. It took too long to come out (always a bad sign) and came out watery and devoid of flavor. Should have been wonderful but was really just blah as it came out. - Small plate: Seared Scallops: average at best. Best part about it was the collards; the scallops got completely lost - Main Course: Shellfish & Grits: once again, really looking forward to this. It was....okay. Shrimp and scallops had mild flavor. Grits had great texture. Sauce/gravy lacked any taste. The one bright spot was the server..........and I forgot her name. She earned a 20% tip though. Its not her fault that the food and drinks were terrible. I have zero reason to go back and I suggest that you don't either.

Excellent food and atmosphere! They were were very accommodating for us when we came in with our infant the oyster mushroom ravioli was out of this world!

The staff is absolutely wonderful. Quez recommended a few things and he wasn't wrong. He was a wonderful server love his customer service skills. I never thought grits with mushrooms would be so good. Chicken gumbo. I will definitely be back.

Charming & quaint. Perfect seat by the window. Our waiter was on point and food was tasty. An interesting selection & definitely recommended.

The brunch was terrible. 7 of us ate and everyone agreed. Things were left off our dishes, but the staff was great. I think they need to come down south and try our brunch to see how it is done! Cute atmosphere though!

Amazing food, service, and atmosphere. If you're in the area you should 100% stop in for a drink and bite to eat! Their brunch is also spectacular!

Yikes...was here yesterday and waited 5 minutes to be sat, 10 minutes to be greeted by a server, and 15 minutes for drinks. The $13 manhattans were short. Because we were only buying a preshow cocktail, which we communicated to our server, we had to close out and down our drinks to make our show on time. Very upsetting as the restaurant seems lovely.

Amazing food, the oysters bienville not to be missed!! Ask for Quez best waiter ever! He even got us the chefs recipe for the oysters!

We love southern cooking ... Have been to Charleston SC many times... This meal ... Right here in Philly...Shellfish and Grits is VERY special ! Perfect heat, perfectly grilled shrimp and scallops... Beautifully whipped creamy grits and complex rich flavors! A new favorite I would schlep to the city for!!! The fried green tomatoes with pickled shrimp was outstanding and the watermelon salad made for the perfect meal. Unique crafted cocktails and a great happy hour! Common Wealth on Market Street! We'll be back ! Thank you!

Fantastic gem tucked on a lovely corner in Old City. Easy to get to. Plenty of outdoor seating, great drink selections, cool social atmosphere, quick service, not the longest but an extremely tasty menu and live acoustic music on the first weekends of the month. Oh, and a cute bartender. Just love it.
