Review Butcher Bar - Philadelphia

Candace B.
Came here to eat today for brunch. We ordered the bottomless drinks which were good and the biscuits for an appetizer. Biscuits were very good. For my entree, I ordered the salmon toast, very tasty! The server was nice but we wish he was quicker with refilling our drinks. I liked the ambiance and the rnb music playing in the background. Overall great experience and I would return.

Took my date out to this place during restaurant week. Their appetizers, especially the duck wings and pretzel rolls were tasty. I had the main dish of the 1/2 rack baby back ribs with the cornbread. The ribs were OK. However, it was too heavy with the sauce. My date enjoyed her steak. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Ambiance and the staff were wonderful

The burgers here are incredible. Cooked perfectly, great flavor, and the soft bun works well. I like my lettuce and tomato more crisp than these, but it didn't take away from the experience. Note that the 4 oz patties are closer to smash burgers than the 8 oz. Classic fries are a good pairing, and there are at least half a dozen cocktails that caught my eye. I ended with the cookie/ice cream combo which had the right level of sweetness. Service was slow at times, but they were busy on a Friday night.

I had an incredible dinner at Butcher Bar this past Saturday with my friends, and it was truly an amazing experience. Our waiter, Marco, was outstanding, offering fantastic recommendations and displaying great patience as we navigated the menu. Our appetizers, the bone marrow and duck confit wings, were both delicious, with the duck being a standout for me. When it came to our entrees – baby back ribs, Italian meatballs, the Royale with Cheese, and the Nashville game hen – the portions were impressively generous, leaving us with leftovers. The ribs were tender and flavorful, and the drinks were fantastic. I'm eagerly anticipating my return visit, and I have to give a special shout-out to Marco for his exceptional service!

First time ... freaky enjoy this restaurant. It was restaurant week and we ordered from that menu. I had duck wings, spare ribs and chocolate moose. It was all delicious but the the spare ribs were over the top and the meat fell off the bone at the touch of a fork.

Happy Hour is great. Brunch is great. Dinner is great. The staff has always been helpful and attentive. The food is very good, meat is my fav and Butcher Bar does meat great!

The place was amazing! The duck wings were bomb. Burger was delicious but the star of the show was that oven roasted deep fried chicken with a potato waffle! I wouldn’t say this place is cheap, expect $40-$50 per person with drinks included Will be back with a group to try the butcher!

Went here with family - just a casual dinner gathering. The front of the restaurant is fine but not impressive. Hostess was juggling a number of people but did okay. The tented Yule Lodge in the back was festive and unique. The food was the highlight - definitely recommend for some American favorites - the Royale with Cheese did not disappoint.

Tried out Butcher Bar with a friend and had a good experience. We split the dry aged ribeye, mushrooms side, and bone marrow appetizer. Everything was definitely solid, however more bread for the bone marrow and vegetables with the steak would have been appreciated. My beer however tasted off, and more information on the cocktails for what actual liquors were being used would have been useful. Vibes inside were definitely upbeat, albeit inline with the beef forward menu. Cool spot, probably wouldn't return unless friends wanted to try again.

My wife and I stopped in to celebrate the end of the school year. There are a variety of indoor and outdoor seating options depending on the weather. We sat inside. Our server did was very attentive and did an excellent job. The food was very good however the portions were on the small side. We ordered the octopus and Korean ribs. For dessert we got the Nutella chocolate chip cookie which was underwhelming. The place does have a decent beer list. Overall it's worth a stop.

This is a pretty cool bar. Nice design. The baby back ribs could have been better. The sliders were amazing and the service was good.

Great customer service. Took my family for restaurant week and absolutely loved the attentiveness of the staff. Overall, the food was great. We had Mac and cheese, sloppy joe fries & a wedge salad for appetizers. Definitely recommend the Mac and cheese, it was amazing. For entree we had ribs, salmon w/ risotto and steak. The ribs were great! Salmon and risotto were also great. However, the steak was over cooked and the mash was very salty. I will say that once I informed the waiter, he promptly gave us a fresh new bowl of mash. Chocolate mousse was my fav! Pictures attached.

We stopped into Butcher Bar on a Friday evening for burgers and drinks. I had been wanting to try their burger for quite some time now as I’ve seen it mentioned amongst the best in Philly. We each ordered the Royale with Cheese cooked medium with added bacon. I don’t say this lightly, the burger was fantastic. It was probably one of the three best burgers I’ve ever eaten. The patties were cooked just as we ordered with the cheese melted on top. The lettuce, onions, and pickles were fresh and crisp. The special sauce was tasty. And the decision to add bacon was simple yet genius. The bacon was fried to perfection and was a perfect exclamation to an otherwise great burger. Honestly, writing this review is making me want another right now. The fries were also very good. They were seasoned well with a good crunch. I had the American Pie cocktail to go with my burger. It was made well and strong. We ate directly at the bar and the two bartenders we spoke to were helpful and friendly.

This establishment hands down is one of my absolute favorite places to eat. We went for our three year anniversary the other night and the entire experience was outstanding. From the staff, our amazing waiter, the tasty specialty drinks, and for the love of god the foods. We will most definitely be returning. You will NOT regret stopping here.

First time visiting. Coming in from the outside, I was nervous because the street and entrance just looked dingy but coming in, it was so well put together! Very pretty and welcoming. Drinks were strong. The appetizer we ordered was the highlight of my meal (the spare ribs toast). It was delicious and flavorful. The bread had a great crunch to it. We ordered steaks which weren’t anything to rave about.

Awesome food, service, and ambiance at Butcher Bar! The building itself is a really cool layout with outdoor seating near the street (when we visited,) an interesting bar area in the front, and 2 semi-outdoor areas with a rear bar toward the back with large fans and heaters for year round comfort. Our waiter was fantastic with recommendations and checking in when we needed more drinks. Excellent mixed drink list and plenty of beers on tap to choose from. The food was delicious, we had 2 types of ribs- Korean short ribs (which had a perfectly crunchy char) and spiced slaw only the side, smoked boar ribs w/jalapeno corn bread, glazed duck wings, house smoked bacon, and gouda mac and cheese which honestly may be my new favorite in the city. Ending the meal with the cast iron chocolate chip cookie was a great finisher as well. Everything was cooked and spiced perfectly- I couldn't have asked for a better tasting meal, and the menu is pretty unique! Will absolutely be returning to explore the other options on the menu.

Our server Teresa was amazing. She was super sweet and made wonderful suggestions for our first time there. We went with her choices and we couldn't of asked for a better meal. The choices she gave us really were a great example of the favorable, fresh, and memorable menu that you guys provide. The hipster meatballs were to die for couldn't believe they were vegetarian and her choice of the bronzino for my husband was perfect. Couldn't believe it was the whole fish but it was so well seasoned and prepared that it was gone in a matter of minutes. Even down to the drinks was amazing! Highly recommend this place and will definitely return if I am ever in town!

We were seated in the back which is actually a covered and heated outdoor space, but it was fine. The food was great, if you like meat done well this is your place. We ordered meatballs, slab bacon, and the Korean ribs as appetizers. All were very good. Flavorful and well seasoned. The two of us could have stopped at that but we split a bone in ribeye. We ordered it rare and it came out that way. If a place specializes in meat and you order rare it should come out almost mooing. One again very flavorful. I’ll be back.

Butcher Bar is a favorite spot for our date nights in the city! We love to bring another couple and teach them the art of sharing small plates. We always start with several and often add a few more. Every small plate we have tried is amazing and each new one we add to our list quickly becomes a favorite!! We usually get an entree or two to share and never skip dessert!!! Service is always smiling and fun! We can’t wait to go back!

I was skeptical at first I read the reviews good and bad! We arrived and found convenient parking in lot next door! But quickly found out that convenience came at a price! $30 to park! Our reservations were for 6:30 we arrived and were seated by 7, unfortunately we were a group of 5 and had an older person with us that had trouble getting around and when they took us to our table we had to climb a long flight of stairs! The waiter was very friendly and accommodating to once we were seated, after reading the menu we placed our order. I have to say from the appetizers to the main course and side dishes everyone at our table thoroughly enjoyed the food and service! The prices were inline with any other restaurant of this type! The table next to us purchased “The Trough” we took a picture of it and I can’t wait to go back with 5-6 hungry people to try and attempt to eat all that food! Overall I would highly recommend this place but not without saying that the parking was costly and it’s not recommended for any person that has difficulty or handicap getting around!

We spent a lot but we got a lot which is always the BEST feeling when you go out to splurge on a meal (at least for us). We had planned on getting a round or two of drinks and a few small plates but wound up trying the entire experience (less desert). Great cocktail list and we tried the Neshaminy Creek High Plateau Saison. Pricy but worth it. Appetizer of the Butcher Board was sensational. Such a stunning presentation and quality. We then had two dinner specials at the suggestion of our server. Scallops and chicken did not disappoint. We REALLY wanted to try the meatballs and sausage or steaks (everything and I mean everything looked fantastic). In addition to our lovely and informative server, we also appreciated the food runners. They took the time to actually explain the dishes they were presenting. They also were constantly checking the table and pre-busing without rushing or being intrusive. The timing of the service was perfect and we never felt an overbearing presence or neglected. It's a busy restaurant but the way the seating is structured you can still have a conversation. Overall, I would definitely put it on you list for either an occasion or just a date night or even sit at the bar if you can get a seat.

Second time I have been to Butcher Bar (got The Trough both times) and I have to say it was amazing. Server was excellent and attentive, another server conversed with us and the food was amazing. Will definitely be returning and will continue to recommend Butcher Bar to friends!

Party of eight the food came from the first plate to the last plate was an hour ....the manager Christina was unprofessional and non apologetic... over priced and not worth it .... maybe the worst experience ever had ...

The drinks were very good. No complaints on the duck wings and the mac and cheese was by far the best part of the meal. I got the game he and was no impressed at all. It was dry my green beans were cold and there was so much oil on the corn it literally jump off the plate/out of my hand ruining my shirt. Also very tight space. Our waiter had a hard time getting to us. He was busy with a large party and we ran out of drinks. My husband actually had to flag him down for more. Not worth the price in my opinion.

Hidden Gem in the heart of philly sports a bbq menu that competes with some of the best in southern classic bbq. And the best part is, it’s right here in philly. Pony up and get the trough. You won’t regret it

Walked in for lunch not knowing what to expect. Place smelled awesome and they were just opening up. We got iced teas (as we were working across the street). Our food came out quickly and was the best lunch I ever had. Staff was amazing. You never know where you'll uncover a hidden gem...

We had such a great experience at Butcher Bar last night. Our server, Rye, was phenomenal and gave us the best recommendations. The Hipster Meatballs and deconstructed PB&J Cheesecake are out of this world! We also really enjoyed the Brussel sprout and Cauliflower appetizer, sloppy joe poutine, and duck wings. Great date atmosphere! Can’t wait to go back.

We went with a group of friends. The ambiance is great, albeit a bit loud. The food was amazing. The bacon is an ABSOLUTE MUST. The drinks are also top notch, I loved the tangerine mojito! All six of us thought everything we ordered was good. None of us had a bad meal

My husband and I walked into this place on a whim last night. All these delicious smells just pulled us right in and we forgot all about the other restaurant we had planned on going to. It was packed and we didn't have a reservation, but the very friendly hostess found us a table within minutes. I ordered the sloppy Joe poutine and the Italian meatballs, and my husband got the bone marrow and octopus confit. Everything was outstanding, but the meatballs were the star of the show for me. The gravy tasted EXACTLY like my Italian granny used to make. The atmosphere was super relaxed, and the service was outstanding. I can't wait to come back!

First of all... anything open late night that has amazing food is five stars! But even then... the ambience, the food and the late night staff kicked it up to 6 stars so thank you!!

I don't normally write reviews but I wanted to say how much I enjoyed my brunch this past weekend! Food was delicious (I ordered the skirt steak sandwich), had a mimosa that was great and they were super accommodating with me bringing my 5 month old (she's a good brunch companion, I promise)!! Love the vibes, would recommend to friends!

Phenomenal bartender, phenomenal food, phenomenal beer. Highly recommend

This is our first time there, the place was amazing. We got the foods under 15 mins from the time we order; maybe because we got there at 10:15 ish at nite. The waitress was awesome she took many pictures of our family with and without flash. We didn't even ask her to do it, what a pro. The food was cook perfect very tasty. I think I found the best Comfort Food place in Philadelphia.
