A true culinary gem! TOWNSEND in Philadelphia's East Passyunk Crossing neighborhood has left an indelible mark on my dining experience. Every aspect, from the elegantly cozy ambiance to the meticulously crafted dishes, is a testament to the chef's dedication to excellence. The menu's sophistication is matched only by the impeccable service that creates a truly memorable evening. Each dish is a work of art that reflects a deep understanding of flavors and ingredients. The staff's knowledge and genuine passion for their craft elevate the entire dining experience. TOWNSEND is without a doubt deserving of a glowing 5-star review for delivering a dining adventure that exceeds all expectations. If you're seeking culinary perfection, this is the place to be!

Escargot $16 sauce would go really well with bread Foie Gras Mousse $16 was tasty. A lot of mousse for the bread. Would get this again Cote du Boeuf for two $150 ribeye was nicely done. Still some red. 32oz was a lot of meat though. Took this home to eat the next day.

Have you ever eaten a meal, and halfway through you stop and think I am so grateful for being able to eat this......no? Me either, until last night, at Townsend. It was that good. Fois grois mousse, amazing. Sweet, savory and silky, rich and addictive. Escargot: my wife said it was possibly the best dish of her life. Really well balanced sauce and flavors, the fava beans were perfect with it. Steak tartare: rich, decadent, delicious. Scallops: nice sized seared scallops with a citrus sauce and tomatoes. Great flavors, colors, and perfectly seared. Beef marrow bones, mushroom croquet. OMG, first time trying thearrow bones and I will order it any chance I get. Amazing flavors, just spooned it on the fresh sourdough....and closed my eyes in thanks. Ribeye: I'm a steak guy, and I make a lot of steak, bbq etc. It's hard to find a really good steak, IMHO, at a restaurant. This was just a ridiculous beautiful perfectly cooked ribeye, for 2 people. The absolute best steak I've ever had. No doubt. Dessert......the souffle was so smooth and decadent.

Absolutely stunning. I brought my two elderly friends to the restaurant and the people were professional and attentive to them. My two elderly friends didn't know how to speak much English and so the waiters gave us extra time to read the menu and let me translate the menu for them. I didn't expect that level of service in Philadelphia. The welcoming atmosphere, not silent, is warm and welcoming. The pace of the meal was spot on. The food was amazingly deep and good. It has depth. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone going to Philly.

My husband and I love to eat and trying new places. While we have been to Townsend before, this was the first time trying the tasting menu. For $100, you get a lot and get a lovely adventure of the taste buds. Now, it has been 5 months since we had a date night (newborns will do that), but we thoroughly enjoyed our time. Our server was also very attentive and kind. The beef tartar and the skate were my favorite.

What a treat! Elegant and creative cocktails and dishes, we had the best time for dinner at Townsend. For food - Hamachi - really well balanced with the addition of apple and seasonings Potato gnocchi - such a flavorful dish. It had fantastic texture differences, it was such a delight on the palate. I would totally eat this over and over. Scallops - these medium size scallops were perfectly done and over seasonal vegetables and a fish broth. Half chicken - this was surprisingly (and impressively) the best executed dish of the night. The chicken was prepared two ways and was so incredibly moist and flavorful. Faroe island salmon - honestly, this was probably the most underwhelming dish. It was unique to pair with muscles, however the flavor profile was very dull. Dessert - this was described to us as the “gold bar“. Better than your traditional poundcake with tons more flavor. Perfect dessert to share. We were really happy we did not do the tasting menu and rather ordered à la cart. The reason for the four stars, however, was there were no curtains on the first floor back of the restaurant, so guests were looking at an alleyway and into a tattoo shop, coupled by neighbors that were smoking cigarettes and you could smell the cigarette smoke which was very disrupting to the ambience of the dinner. The small was so strong at one point that it tainted our food. Very disappointing.

Celebrated my birthday here with my husband over Labor Day weekend. Service was excellent and the food blew us away. Highly recommend the fluke and mouse patè. Space is cozy and intimate with a fantastic music playlist that the chef curates.

My boyfriend surprised me for New Years Eve to take me to a 7 course dinner at Townsend and it was simply delish! It was our first time and we both enjoyed. Great service and amazing flavorful food. The place is designed very simple so the focus is on the food. The best way to describe the restaurant is that I felt like I was at a gallery where the plates are the pieces of art and everything else in terms of design is the frame and the matte to the art. Tons of colors, textures, and thoughtfully designed uniquely per plate. I’m not a fan of oysters yet I loved the oysters they served. Overall it was more than just a dinner, but a food experience and I highly recommend. Also our favorite were the Cantaloupe sherbet balls for dessert. The last dessert was good but I wish that they served a chocolate dessert instead because I love chocolate and with everything so amazing I’m sure a chocolate dessert would be nothing short of amazing. If anything our seating was very close to the couple next to us which at times was uncomfortable with the woman staring at me. With spending so much on an amazing meal I would have liked a bit more space to enjoy with the person I’m eating with. The last thing that would have completed the meal was I was looking forward to my favorite cocktail, an espresso martini, however they didn’t have it nor offered coffee with dessert which is always my favorite part. Overall, it was delish though and I look forward to go again and highly suggest Townsend!

The small room in the back creates a romantic atmosphere for any special occasion. If you tell them in advance that you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary, they will personalize your menu for that occasion, which I think is a special touch. As for the food, the flavors, variety, and presentation are fantastic. Highly recommend picking several dishes to try. The oysters were an amazing appetizer and the steak is definitely on point and cooked to perfection.
