First time here was the day before New Year's Eve (12/30/22). Unintentionally spent $300 at the bar (be careful, their shots add up because we couldn't have had more than 15). The bartender was beyond rude too because we didn't order food. Not an overall good experience and didn't think I'd be back.
Update: This time (9/23/23) was much better. Waited for 45 minutes to go in for happy hour. We were seated at the food bar which wasn't bad - gave me hibachi vibes. The food was exceptional though! Excellent Korean BBQ beef and Kim Chee Fried Rice (10/10). Our server was very nice, but they definitely put pressure on you to eat and get out.
Went here with some colleagues while in town for a convention. The food was great. I had the vegetarian tasting menu and it was both very delicious and filling. I usually eat quite a lot; However I had to take the extra home since there was so much food. The server was very cheerful. There certainly was a bit of a wait. We also had some sake which was good.
Came for happy hour (every day 4-7pm) but had trouble finding a table. We headed to the back where they had the Graffiti Bar (covered outdoor patio) and found some bar stools to sit at. We ordered the edamame dumplings, crab Rangoon, satay, Brussels sprouts, and 2 drinks. All flavorful and pretty good but we left still hungry. Bill came out to $50+ with tip and tax, which felt steep for the emptiness still in our stomachs. Maybe high end dining isn’t my thing hah
One of my absolute faves! My go to when I want a chill atmosphere and great food! Service is also always pleasant. I always recommend this place. Soup dumplings and any steak there are top tier!
Heard about Sampan in one of Antony Bordain’s series and decided to try it out. I had a dumpling and chicken wing experience. Chicken wings prepared Korean style (double fried) with garlic and spicy sauce. So mouthwatering, chicken crisp and juicy. Absolutely recommend. Also ordered soup, beef and chicken dumplings with peanut sauce. Chicken-peanut dumplings were unforgettable! Soup dumplings not very soupy, probably better to go to Chinese places who specialize in it. Chicken satay (skewers) were pretty good. Had sake with food, which was very good. A bit on expensive side, starting $48. Overall, very much satisfied with the food.
My friends and I went to this place for dinner. The ambience was really good with music and good vibes. Our server was nixy and she was one of the best servers out there. She explained each of the vegetarian options to us. We ordered crispy chicken bao, fried rice, ice cream, drinks ( mule, old fashioned ), tofu taco and noodles. Everyone was flavorful and tasty 🤤. I would highly recommend this place to everyone who likes asian fusion food.
Note : please make an appointment and go.
One of my favorite spots! Been here so many times, different times of the day, Service and food always good. Love love love Happy Hour. Its a great date nights, meeting up with friends or even a solo date (my favs lol)
I have nothing but great things to say about Sampan. My husband and I like to go there whenever we are in the city. We do the tasting menu, which is $55 pp and allows you to get 2 items from the first page in the menu & 1 item from each other section of the menu. It also includes mini ice cream cones for dessert. We always have left over for lunch the next day, but that’s because we order big items from the menu. I highly recommend the bao buns, short ribs, and the kimchi fried rice. We got the Bronzino for the first time last time and it was great! Reservations are a must because this place gets very crowded.
A dimly lit venue ideal for a casual date or small social gathering. The preparation of the food is quite modern and the quality/taste is decent. Nothing special.
We came not knowing it was restaurant week and ending up paying $45 per person for the 5 course tasting menu. Two of the courses were bite sized, with one small portion and two larger portions. There was also a small bite sized dessert of ice cream.
Overall satisfied with the portion sizes of the food as I started feeling full as we reached the final course.
The pork bao was flavorful and crispy. The ceviche was bite sized but decent in quality while the wagyu skewers tasted like a regular cut of steak. The kimchi fried rice could use some more flavor, while the Peking duck meet expectations.
Great place to eat, the food was incredible. My server was decent and the atmosphere all together is beautiful. I would recommend and I definitely will be back
