Even on a cold day, it’s easy to ❤️ Bassetts.
Lines can be long of course anywhere in the Reading Terminal, so plan accordingly. That doesn’t mean you won’t find a calm moment when you can get in there and order right away!
There is not much seating accept for a few stools at the edge of the station. 🐒
So, we all know that ice cream is great. That has never been a question, right? But is Bassetts THE ice cream place? – Yes, yes it is! This is the perfect ending to any meal you choose to have at the Reading Terminal Market. Grab a cone of the creamiest ice cream or the fabulous sorbet. What a great treat! The staff was super helpful (we tried at least two different flavors based upon their recommendations) and very efficient. It was a great experience overall. Thank you, Bassetts!
This place, without a doubt, has the best ice cream in the entire city. Hands down! It is worth every single penny you pay! Every flavor I’ve had has been nothing short of amazing. My favorites so far are their pomegranate & blueberry crunch, salted caramel pretzel, pralines & cream, raspberry truffle & peanut butter swirl. You’ll find a flavor you love there too! This place is definitely worth a visit if you’re anywhere near the area & have a craving for ice cream. I promise you won’t be disappointed! Come down to Reading Terminal & get yourself a historic & unbelievably delicious ice cream cone.
This place has incredible ice cream. This is the oldest operating ice cream place in America. I had a cookies and cream cone yesterday and there was one problem with it though. There was a hair in it. I pulled the hair out from my teeth thinking it was from my beard. It wasn't. It was a completely different hair that couldn't be mine (I'm bald and my beard hairs aren't that long). I don't think the fellow who scooped my ice cream was wearing a hair net.
It was incredibly delicious ice cream we ate in there. Highly recommended. I think the best ice cream I ever had.
I loveeee to try all types of goodies and there was no way i was gunna skip out on this legendary shop. I made sure to leave some room in my belly and i knew what i wanted but was taking a chance... or was i man i had a peach ice cream shake and well i wanna go back for just that it was amazing. Like i told my self when i go back to try something else flavor wise but lmao we will see how that goes. Enjoy🍑
Delicious, the kids size ($6) is huge!
Amazing for GF / Celiac . They brought out their manual to get a gluten free flavor, washed their scoopers, wore gloves, and opened a BRAND NEW container of ice cream (they offered!). Customer service was 10/10, will be returning!
First time at this historic Ice cream shop. Basset’s is supposively the very first ice cream parlor in the USA and the milk shake was anything short from amazing! I had the toffe milkshake it had Heath bar crunches with English vanilla toffee and caramel drizzles. My date had the peanut butter dream I tasted it that as well it was YUMMY! The customer service was on point and their pretty fast the wait was not that long. The milkshake was definitely the highlight of my day! I’ll definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fulfilling delightful desert! I plan on coming back her very soon!!
Absolutely incredible ice cream! I could tell that there was at least less artificial ingredients then you would be typically getting at an ice cream place. Highly recommend the peach ice cream given the fact that it tastes fresh, and somewhat surprisingly not artificial at all.
Bassett's Ice cream is the first commercially distributed ice cream shop in the country and is putting out some tasty and creamy ice cream flavors that are sure to delight! Located inside Reading Terminal Market, this is their only storefront where you can buy their ice cream over the counter in cones or pints! Their atmosphere is classic and clean and they have televisions where they display their history of ice cream making and how they got started. This is a special place and a gem in the ice cream capital of America so definitely check them out and see what they have to offer!
My wife and I both got cones. She had a cake cone with Butterscotch Vanilla ice cream and I got a specialty chocolate dipped, chocolate sprinkle waffle cone with Salted Caramel Pretzel ice cream. My wife's ice cream was good and the vanilla was rich and smooth. I wish there was more butterscotch swirl like they show in their website because it was mostly vanilla ice cream with thin, light swirls. You could barely taste the butterscotch. My ice cream had a caramel swirl that WAS like the picture online as you can see in my pictures. It was oozing with tasty salted caramel and had bits of chocolate covered pretzel bites throughout. I especially like that their vanilla ice cream base is made with real vanilla as you can see the little black vanilla speckles in the ice cream. The cone was also good and had plenty of chocolate flavor but wasn't anything different than any other dipped sprinkle cone you can get anywhere else.
The service was nice and quick. She gave us plenty of ice cream for the price. My only gripe would be that I wish they had a "one scoop" option as they only have two or three scoop options and they are massive portions and our ice cream was melting all over us by the time we got to eating our second scoop haha
Overall, because of its history, this is definitely a place you should check out. Their ice cream is good and creamy and loaded with mix ins (if you get the right one anyways lol) they have all their flavor options online but I'm not sure if they serve all flavors at their brick and mortar location. Check out the Reading Terminal Market while you're there!
