Sunset House

Great dive bar that I stopped at spontaneously after walking around Peekskill. Ordered the French Onion soup and a cheeseburger with fries. Food was great (although I prefer swiss cheese on my F.O.S. and not provolone) and the bartender was very nice, too. It was fun chatting with her. The place was empty (for lunch anyway) but I didn't mind as I don't like crowds. It was me and another guy at the bar. He was annoying but she handled him well. I'm guessing this is more of a nighttime hangout, but I definitely liked the vibe here.

We went there on a Thursday, around 4pm. It was slow and only a few customers at the bar. The bartender lady was very kind and friendly. She was our server. We are a party of three and she took care of us. She was all on top of our order, our needs and I even forgot ask her name. We ordered three dishes, Buffalo wings, lemon chicken pasta, and grilled chicken sandwich served with onion rings( you can have a choice of French fries, sweet potato fries or onion rings). All of the food were so tasty ( except the grilled chicken was a little dry). Nevertheless, it was the hospitality that convinced all of us. The decor of the house , inside and outside, all cute and cozy. I couldn't imagine how cozy it would be in the winter. ( we went there during late August) . The bathroom was clean and tidy. I couldn't ask for more. We went there after we got on the Hudson River cruise. The place is around ten to 15 min walk away from the pier and Peekskill train station. If you are into all American food, want to get bang for your buck yet tasty food, this is the place.

This place is very unassuming but lots of the food is homemade as are many of the sauces, like the BBQ sauce. They have a great patio in the back. They were very welcoming for our dog. We waited on hand and foot and were made to feel like one of the family. If you were in the Peekskill area you should definitely give this place a try. There's free parking across the street.
