Otani's

The only reason I'm giving Otani's only two stars is that a friend of mine told me how amazingly wonderful it was. Perhaps the seafood salad isn't the best thing on the menu. That's what I had and it was very underwhelming. My friend and I went there hoping to find something like a Seven Seas salad which of course has all kinds of seafood in it not just crab and shrimp with lettuce. We did not opt to have it smothered in mayonnaise which of course is the way most people get it. I intend to return to try something else on the menu. The place was about half-full and there was a steady stream of people coming in getting to go orders. I suspect my experience is a unique one. I must add this; the people who work there are very accommodating I did not expect the wonderful service that we got. 😁

Long running counter service seafood restaurant serving everything with a Japanese(?) style. The variety of fish on offer is quite great and everything is reasonably priced. The actual food was good for a quick bite, but left something to be desired - both in preparation and proportions. The mahi-mahi charbroiled plates come with white rice and a side salad, which I substituted for tempura vegetables for a small upcharge. The mahi-mahi tasted great, but the temper was all over the place - some bites were perfect, others a slimey mush, and others a tough and rubbery - though notably nothing was egregious enough to sour the meal, but it was something that stood out. The rice was good, if a bit mushy, but the small side scoop barely filled the compartment in the tri-sector paper plate. The tempura vegetables amounted to a spear of zucchini, a single stem of broccoli, and a large slice of carrot. All were good, but again the size of the side (especially for an upcharge) seemed a bit lacking. All that said, I did enjoy the meal and would probably come back here for lunch if I'm in Oxnard again.

First time here! Had the Combo Taco plate with one grilled fish taco and one fried fish taco with rice and salad. Was served by a gentlemen named Brandon he was very friendly and helpful in showing me the options on the menu and helping me come to a decision on my order. His service was imprccable cartering to my needs and making sure i was cared for in my time dining at Otani's. The portions are very lavish and plentiful. The tacos super tasty. Would definitely be back.

Extremely small and skimpy portion of salmon on the "Karen's" Wednesday special. Child size portion of fish with a scoop of rice and "salad" which consisted of premixed lettuce and mayonnaise ...I'm guessing.... Think price was 16 dollars. I'd rather go elsewhere for value for my buck. I'm sure there is a lot of "history" in the locale, I know it's been there for years... however I would not venture to go there if I have a appetite.

Fish is fresh rice is good but the salad wasn't fresh that was too bad because It was like eating by a dirty trash can. Some how the salad messed up the whole plate, I wish they wouldn't have placed it there. The place was clean but they scale and gut the fish right in front of you so you get the smell coming off the stainless steel. The food is brought to the table for you and the condiment are on a small table by the front door.
