We have been there two time. The food was great. I was looking forward to more BBQ wings after church. It was disappointing when we-a group of 10 people were waiting to get in. We saw staff putting out menu,ECT. No hours are posted. No one came out to say we aren't going to open /or we open at ??? time. You lost the business of 10 people. I will be back because the food is great! Please post the hours. Big sign on window saying something would start at 2 today.....you need more then that.

A family owned barbeque restaurant. The decor and atmosphere is quiet and reserved, and dim without being dark. The food is reasonably priced and has a unique quality and character that makes it stand out from chain restaurants in a refreshing way. I especially enjoyed the sides- the cornbread was especially nice. I found the meat to be a bit on the dry side, though the burger was nice and juicy. Of course, your taste preference in barbeque will have a big impact on your own experience.

The name is very misleading and the food was sub-par based on what I was expecting. Chicago Barbecue is adopted from barbecue originating from the Mississippi Delta which used pits in the ground to cook mainly pork products. This process was low and slow and the meat took on a lot of smoke flavor as a result. I ordered the baby back ribs and my wife ordered the beef ribs. We both ordered them nekkid with sauce on the side after the waiter confirmed that they use a dry rub on the meat. The beef ribs were cooked properly but the baby backs were way over-cooked to the point where if you picked up a bone, the gray, mushy meat would stay on the plate. Neither of the rib styles were rubbed with anything but salt (or they were salted after cooking), and the ribs didn't have any bark on them, just gray meat with some grill marks on them. But the biggest thing I noticed: no smoke flavor what-so-ever. My very first concern upon entering the restaurant was the lack of any smoke aroma but I assumed they had some serious ventilation. The atmosphere left a lot to be desired. When you’re eating barbecue, especially barbecue based on Chicago, Kansas City, or Mississippi Delta, it should be accompanied with some good blues music, or no music at all. Instead we were treated to music from artists like Cyndi Lauper, Whitney Houston, Chicago, and more similar music. Lastly, the place looks like it’s still going through renovations as all of the walls were unfinished.

My husband and I had the baby back ribs. They were fall off the bone tender with a wonderful sauce. I loved them, my husband thought the meat was a little bland. We also had beans, mashed potatoes and cornbread. All were delicious. My husband had the coleslaw and did not like the vinegar based sauce. The food came out fast. Friendly staff.

One of the best places for food in the Owatonna area. Sampled all the ribs they had and not one did my taste buds turn down. Heck even their fries had a distinct flavor that made them all the better. I know I will do my best to keep these guys in business. Comparatively, these are great as the only other selection for "BBQ" in the area is Famous Dave's, and all they do is rub meat and present it as BBQ by saying, oh you can apply your own, which isn't BBQ. Chicago BBQ is as the name implies and is very much the #1 choice in Owatonna for ribs.

The barbeque here is not very good. I'm pretty sure it's all oven baked. When you look at a cross section of the meat there is no pink border (the pink indicates smoke penetration in the meat). It all tastes like roast with barbeque sauce on it. Also the restaurant wasn't completely finished when I ate there, there was some bare drywall. I don't remember how much the bill was but I know it was too much.

I gotta say I gave this place another try. I'm sorry to say it was disappointment. Walked in during Crazy days and couldn't find anyone. Finally someone came to seat us and she was from the other side(La puruza the El Salvador food side). The prices are reasonable but quality was poor. I asked what their "meatless" burgers are made of(soy, veggie or tofu) she said " I dnt knw their frozen" No knowledge, no attentive customer service. For the name Chicago and no signs of ANY Chicago foods. I dnt knw why they named it this? 2☆s was bout all I could gve. It's not decorated anything but small pics of Chicago that's it.

The good: the food was pretty tasty. The bad: service, while friendly, was slow. They were under construction, and that detracts from the atmosphere. The menu had several typos, and some things in the menu we're not available (like Bleu Cheese Dressing). Overall: meh.
