Review Slate Restaurant - Orlando

Frank Giacobbe
Slate is a classy, intimate restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere, complete with gas lanterns. I’ve been there 10+ times. They have fantastic cocktails and a small rotating menu of good food and wood fired pizza. Their food tends to be elevated and usually very flavorful. They’re on the verge of 5-star in my book but you shouldn’t be disappointed here and I will definitely return. I would recommend reservations.

Went to celebrate Valentines Day. We had a prefixed menus but the selection was pretty good. Great tasting appetizers both of us had grouper for the main course which was pretty tasty. Even though it was a very busy night the atmosphere was nice and cozy . James was wonderful...the whole staff is super friendly.

This restaurant is an absolute gem. The contemporary yet warm design creates the perfect ambiance. The seasonal menu is a culinary delight, offering wood-grilled meats, fresh seafood, wood-fired copper oven pizzas, and an extensive selection of wines, spirits, local craft beers, and artisanal cocktails. The service was outstanding; the chef even greeted us personally and sent us a delightful tasting. We had a fantastic time. We'll definitely be returning in December 2023. Highly recommended

We were visiting Orlando for a Tradeshow, so happy to found this gem while getting something from Traders Joe , everyone should try this beautiful restaurant, they were so kind to help us find a table without reservation , it was packed on Wednesday night. Food is just delicious, everything is amazing from the service, presentation, taste . We will come back again . Thank you very much!

Jewel of a restaurant with *excellent* waitstaff and high-quality food ingredients: especially the most-affordable wood-fired pizza. We enjoyed both the pulled pork pizza and the special pizza: a slightly tough but flavorful teriyaki chicken with (surprise!) shredded carrot and cheese pizza. Both pizzas were super flavorful — but no more so than the delicious grilled romaine salad. Take home: Excellent dining experience for high-end pizza and ambiance. Looking forward to coming back!

Without hesitation one of the most satisfying experiences I’ve ever had- coming from a world traveler’s palate! The first experience I had here was excellent, but it was the times following that sold me to becoming a regular. The consistently delightful food, the indulgent new specials, the variety of the menu- the fact that somehow some of the vegetarian dishes seem to even outshine classics- I cannot recommend slate enough. I look forward to many more meals at this establishment and I root for their success, thank you slate for providing the community such delicious food and welcoming hospitality.

Took my fiance here for his birthday. Absolutely fantastic!!! Service phenomenal!! Food phenomenal!! Mushroom popovers were amazing! I had the lamb it was the best lamb I have ever eaten. The dessert was a peanut butter and cherry sponge cake thing it sounds/tastes better than I am describing. Will come back!! (Not sure if allergy friendly I took a Benadryl to have the popovers. They are a scratch kitchen though)

Such a great experience, in Orlando it's always fun to find the unique restaurants with delicious food and good service. Check out happy hour if you're around, otherwise make a reservation for dinner. We tried everything from crab cakes to steak to lamb and we loved everything. Worth a trip to a great part of town.

Slate is the best kept secret in Orlando. The food is really good and the price is just right. I had the roasted romaine lettuce salad along with grilled shrimp. The fried breakfast potatoes are to die for. I also tried their infused ginger vodka drink that has pineapple in lime in it. It was very tasty. The food was so good. I had to take the smoked brisket scrambled eggs to go. Destiny was an excellent waitress. The chef actually prepares his food with a smile on his face. His Sue Chef and Side Chef was a delight to see in action. Slate is a great family atmosphere. You can see the staff love what they do . Great customer service. Nice family atmosphere. When you come to Orlando, if you miss this place, you have missed the best part of Orlando. The Slate staff(Family) is very diverse along with their customers.

Came here for magical dining month. We got a an appetizer, main plate and a dessert. This is my first time at slate so I’m not sure what the serving portions are on regular times but the magical dinning month servings were okish. The bread pudding servings were ridiculously small. Which is sad because we love trying bread puddings. The chocolate cheesecake serving was better. So my review is 8/10 on the hush puppies (they needed more sauce) 8/10 on the prime rib (medium steak was nice and red but a bit dry) Not a fan of chocolate but the chocolate cheesecake was really good. My wife’s bread pudding was also really good (but small serving) They seemed a bit busy but the service was excellent! food took a while to come out.. but we got two bottles of bubbles so that keeps us entertained. I say 4 stars. We might come back and try regular portions

Love Slate so much! The whole staff has always made me feel at home. The excellent menu from chef Kevan, especially the recent tasting menu, has blown me away. The lovely execution of dishes by chef Ashley is always a treat! If drinks are your thing, they’ve got that covered too. My favorites are the spice so nice and a cosmopolitan. Can’t recommend this place enough 😁 Update October 6 2021: There was this one pizza, spicy chicken prosciutto, that got me hooked. Since then I’ve found the mushroom with shrimp to be excellent and will be my go-to!

Please repeat after me… food coma, and well worth it. My nine-year-old, a major foodie, also ranted and raved about his experience today along with his two buddies. The restaurant is kid friendly with fantastic food and mock-tail choices. We visited Slate today for brunch and had a complete sampling of some of their top brunch items. There were 10 of us, and everyone enjoyed each entree served. The service that we received from our waitress named “Carlson” and the attention given to us by the general manager “Kin” was outstanding. We were a bit lazy today and didn’t want to think much, so we opted to have them surprise us with a family-style serving of their best recommendations. Please see pictures of the following items. We started with a round of shots called Southern Hospitality, followed by bottomless mimosas, which were $20 per person for an hour. The shots (also served as a specialty drink) were refreshing and tasty, with a beautiful strawberry and lemongrass finale. The kids enjoyed a blueberry-lemonade Mocktail also very tasty and refreshing. While enjoying our drinks, plates of food started flying from the kitchen, where we began with the Pancetta & Pepper Jack hush puppies and seasonal pancakes. The hush puppies were the best I’ve ever had. They were crispy on the outside and deliciously gooey on the inside. We also had the Brioche French toast, Shrimp and Grits, Chicken Fingers, Croque Madame Croissant, and Brisket Benedict. All prepared deliciously and garnished handsomely. The only thing we wished during this experience was the ability to add on another stomach to continue eating. Lol! A special thanks to Carlson and KIn for taking such good care of our group. We will be back.

A nice steakhouse experience. Something that is different from all the chain restaurants that Orlando has to offer. The food is was very good, and offered unique tastes compared to than most places. I'll be back soon.

Great place for a romantic meal, celebration or even a business dinner. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable in the foods as well as variety of wines. Our meal was great and the service was exceptional. Highly recommend stopping here. We will be back.

Slate Atmosphere: Open kitchen style and an interesting floor plan layout. Rustic interior decor. Food: Shrimp and grits: A flavorful take on a traditional dish. The grits are creamier than your tradicional grits. The sausage and Cajun sauce though offer a nice compliment and save the dish overall. French Toast: I'm not big on french toast, but this was really good. I do recommend requesting syrup and asking for extra mouse and getting the bacon as a side. Some people may prefer the additional saltiness and crispness that the bacon adds to the plate. Service: Averagely good service, no complaints and very nice and attentive overall Final thoughts: Definitely a nice atmosphere to go and either have a drink and or eat a meal. Plenty of natural light in the space makes it feel very welcoming, comfortable and warm.

Found this place by mistake. Happy accident!!! Food was delicious, drinks were really well made. Atmosphere is higher end, with an upbeat posh urban vibe. Makes for a really fun brunch stop. Only 4 stars because service was pretty slow and they weren't that busy.... I went before the employee shortage so that is not what affected the service.
