Good. I was having a busy day and was about to hit the road and decided I better grab something quick since I missed lunch and wasn't sure I'd be getting dinner. So, I wandered into China Bowl at 2PM on a Saturday after shopping next door at Hy-Vee.
Restaurant was empty when I walked in. No customers. Though, that's to be expected mid-afternoon in a strip mall restaurant. The owners kids were occupying a table in the dining room and entertaining themselves with electronic devices, coloring, and reading. This annoys a lot of people, but it's mostly a cultural thing. I don't mind it at all. It's the family business. In fact, I sort of expect to see it when I walking into a small privately-owned Asian restaurant during off-peak hours.
I ordered the Sweet & Sour Chicken (real adventurous of me) and an egg roll. Food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Visually, it was a rather boring entrée to look at, but it tasted good. It was basically rice and deep fried chicken covered in sweet and sour sauce. No veggies at all.
The restaurant was a bit hot inside. It was as if they had already switched from A/C to heat for the year and now an unseasonably warm day had turned the place into a sauna.
Overall, decent Chinese-American cuisine at decent prices. If I am in the area and hungry, then I'll probably stop in again.
The BEST Chinese take out in West O! Everything that’s made hot fresh and delicious. Food made with love and kindness. We so appreciate seeing your family and enjoying your wonderful meals!
Delicious take-out. Very flavorful, definitely ordering again. Egg roll was HUGE and crispy. Steamed dumplings had too thick of dough, but still tastes good. Sesame and peanut butter chicken were aw!
Sesame Chicken is delicious. Couldnt resist but digging in immediately. Tastes fresh and not overly sweet, which is huge. They made it 30 minutes after I called, so when i picked up would be fresh and hot, and it sure is!
My wifes Orange chicken was delicious, too. We're simple and didnt feel like exploring their other options this time, but we definitely will come back!
My wife is from the east coast and knows good Chinese. This is the only spot in west Omaha that really impressed her. My meal was also fabulous. I asked for them to make my dish extra spicy and the cook did amazing at a sufficient level of heat for my more extreme palet. All ingredients were fresh and plentiful, and the flavors were all present. Priced very well for the quality, very happy to find a place that doesn't require us to drive across town for good Chinese fare.
Tried to go there to pick up lunch today (12/11), there was a sign on the door saying that they're closed. It'd been several weeks since I'd been there, so I'm not sure on exactly when they closed. I used to go there once a week, I guess I'll be looking for a new Chinese restaurant.
Update 2023...I think of this place often. The food is genuinely authentic, while that does not say a lot but what does is the family atmosphere. The daughters that I have seen grow up over the last 10 years. I highly recommend going in and sitting at a table to eat.
Family run restaurant that is friendly and FAST. I cannot begin to say enough how much of a hidden gem this place is. Good food for a great price and the owners kids that work the front have always been very helpful and send you off with a great "Have a nice day" that I always look forward to. I highly recommend the place....
One of our favorite Chinese restaurants. The food is always so fresh and delicious. Compared to the many other Chinese restaurants we frequent, China Bowl just tastes the best and we keep coming back to them the most. I don't know what it is, there food is always delicious - they must cook with more love than all the other places 😄. The family and staff are always polite and friendly and we have never had an issue with any order. They are only doing carryout right now due to the pandemic, no delivery either, which isn't an issue with us, we don't mind driving there to pick up food.
Easy to order and pick up during the pandemic. The Chinese donuts were a big hit with the kids too.
To be completely honest- China Bowl has the best Chinese food in all of Omaha. You can really tell how much love and work has been put into their dishes. All their food is fresh, their vegetables crunchy, and their chicken juicy and crispy. All their main entrees are good, so I'll just mention my favorite side dishes. I almost always get their dumplings- lots of meat and beautiful, chewy, thick mochi-like skin. The dough is made from scratch and made by hand- and the taste is exceptional! It comes with this house-made sauce, slightly sweet to compliment the savory pork. You really can't get these dumplings anywhere else, they are exclusive to China Bowl! And don't even get me started on the eggrolls- big, crispy and absolutely mouthwatering. The seasoning and crispy vegetables inside it are really something. It really puts all those other greasy sticks from other Chinese places to shame.
Absolutely the best Chinese food in Omaha and the Midwest. Very tasty food, prepared perfectly every time. We go back all the time and always have wonderful experiences. We take all our friends and family there too. It's clean and convenient. Yummy!
