Review Boiler Room - Omaha

We came here after a work meeting and it was the perfect way to unwind! The food looked and tasted amazing. The drinks were very unique and tasty. Our server made our experience memorable as well! I really enjoyed the experience and the use of locally sourced food will have me coming back.

One of the best meals we’ve ever had, even as people who have traveled all over the world. Chef is incredibly talented and we will absolutely be dining here again. We started with a raw scallop appetizer and they were the best scallops I have ever tasted. I also got the Fluke that came in a light curry sauce—it was incredible. The chocolate cake for dessert was the perfect ending to the meal.

Very lovely spot for dinner! We got the charcuterie board for an appetizer, and it did not disappoint. It paired well with both selections of wine we chose for the night. Both our steaks were cooked perfectly, and all the sides were equally delicious. The apple tarte was perfect, although didn't quite satiate the sweet tooth. Overall, very filling and delicious.

I recently dined at The Boiler Room in Omaha, and it was a bit of a mixed bag. The halibut was a highlight - cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. However, the ratatouille left something to be desired, lacking the same wow factor. The steak was decent, and the pork chop was alright, though neither left a lasting impression. What did stand out were the ricotta agnolotti and the jalapeño pork sausage - truly exceptional dishes that I couldn't get enough of. The service was solid, and the lively ambiance was a perfect match for the Downtown vibe. Our table was located by a painting of pig heads, which was strangely unnerving, but it didn't overshadow the overall experience. I was quite pleased with my Archer Scotch drink - impeccably smooth. The sourdough bread was a delightful addition, soaking up every bit of the delicious sauces. While I thoroughly enjoyed many aspects of the meal, I did feel that the prices were slightly on the higher side. All in all, The Boiler Room provided a mix of flavors and experiences, with some definite highlights that are worth trying.

Omaha recently started to grow up on me, and Old Town Market is mostly responsible for it. Any given day or evening, it's such a pleasure to walk around and enjoy the architecture, wall art, and some of the storefronts. If you plan on going to Old Market for food either for The Boiler Room or for another restaurant, I suggest parking a little further than your destination and taking a walk. You will not be disappointed. The Boiler Room is located a little off of the beaten path, and as you walk towards the restaurant, just the view of the building and the colorful garden area immediately elevates your mood. It is relatively small and I strongly recommend you make reservations. The restaurant door opens to a second level, looking directly over the bar and kitchen. Second level seating, which is the best location in my opinion, offers open floor plan and high ceilings. The lower level ceiling is a little too low, and clearly, this restaurant is not made for bar customers as the bartop is a little too narrow, and the chairs, let's say, a tad too uncomfortable View of the aged brick walls, dark brown steel posts, steel pipes, beams, and ducts overhead really complete the ambiance as you are looking to the wine cellar. Great wine and cocktail selection. If you are getting red meat, I would recommend La Sala del Torriano, you won't be disappointed. I have ordered wagyu sirloin steak. I don't like the cold center, so I ordered it medium, and it was cooked to perfection. This dish is executed to perfection with eggplant puree, marinated lentils, shishito, cherry tomatoes, and mushroom demi glace. Bitters from eggplant puree and rich mushroom demi glace really elevates the soft tender sirloin, which really compliments to chef on this brilliant option. I would really be excited and interested in to try a steak dish with Béarnaise sauce from this chef. I am not posting the menu, because I was told it is constantly changing, so I would not want to mislead anyone to certain menu items. Here are a few setbacks; The server forgot to get my drink, had to finish the second half of my food without a drink, In summer, avoid the left side of the bar as the fan from the fridge blowing hot air right on your feet, Bathrooms, oh god, I'm not sure what ladies one looks like, but the men side reminded me of LaGuardia restrooms. It's clean but just not fitting the restaurant. Really can use some upgrades. Also, please install a door stopper and fix the hole in the wall. So if you are going on a date and impress your date, or if you are in town for business for a great bite, this place with its cool ambiance and delicious food should definitely be on your list. May be a plan on logistics ahead of time to avoid restrooms, score a second floor table with a kitchen view, and you have gotten yourself a great night.

Pricey, but excellent food. Wait staff cordial and efficient, but not as attentive as in other higher end downtown Omaha restaurants. Lingering smell from a repaint or restrain job the night we were there. Otherwise interesting masks and decor.

We had a beautiful first anniversary here - the service is fantastic and the food is such a unique and delicious combination of flavors no matter what you order. The upper dining area was 3/4 full even at 8:30pm during our reservation, and the servers worked together to ensure everyone was cared for and each table’s special occasion was known to all throughout the evening. The pork belly curry appetizer was our favorite; such a unique dish with Indian flavors, and the lamb and the salmon entrees were delicious. They brought us a complimentary glass of champagne to start which was a nice touch, too. We will be back for future special occasions!

Service was top notch, atmosphere was excellent, and the detail level and quality of the food was impeccable. The menu is constantly changing, so be prepared for surprises when you get to the restaurant. The cocktails are very complex and delightful. The Nashville pork croquette was a delightful spicy appetizer. My wife had the Norwegian halibut, a beautiful piece of fish, cooked perfectly with delightful sides to accompany. I had the roasted porchetta, which was savory, juicy and delicious. The greens and red eye gravy elevated it even more. We each got the chocolate torte for dessert because it was too good to share!

What a great place to eat! I had the lamb shank and my daughter had the wagyu steak. Both were excellent! Charcuterie plate and rhubarb/strawberry tart were superb! Great service also.

If I could give 10 stars I would. The food was absolutely amazing. The chef is very talented, hats off. We loved every bite of food, drinks and dessert. It’s been years since I’ve visited but going back yesterday was just a flash back to how delectable the food is. 10/10 would recommend.

How we had not found this place before now is unknown. My wife and I visited for our anniversary since we live about an hour and a half from Omaha. The flavor in each bite was a delight. The skill and thought in the creation (squash pastrami) of each part of the plate was mind boggling. By far the best meal we have ever had in Nebraska and one of the tops from our travels also. Don’t miss your chance.

This place is top notch best in omaha for sure! The atmosphere is amazing, the food is to die for, service was on point. I had the salmon which was cooked to perfection! Hands down would eat there everyday if I could! So clean and love watching the chefs create masterpieces from the drinks, entries, to desserts they are all works of art. Hats off to the Boiler room!!!

The ambiance and atmosphere was excellent, service was great along with the cocktails. The disappointment was the food. Our appetizer was very over salted and acidic, and other than the overpowering flavor of lemon pepper, our entrees had little flavor. Overall not worth the price.

We reserved a table with a note about our anniversary. They printed off our menus with "Happy Anniversary!" at the top. The waitress was fantastic. I had the tuna crudo, wagyu steak and we enjoyed a cheese plate, cardamom panna cotta and the blueberry crisp afterward. The tuna crudo was a memory-creating plate and set the tone for a wonderful, wonderful meal.

The food was great but the service lacked. The server tried to get us to buy more and more drinks. He also never asked us how our meal was. The flank steak was amazing! Dessert was so-so. Drinks were good but overall the service was some of the worst I’ve had for the $$ spent.

Service was okay. She was attentive but it took quite some time for both of our drinks, appetizer and both entrees to come out. The drinks were great! Our appetizer was the duck croquette and although it looked pretty, looks can be deceiving. Overly salted and way too acidic. For our entrees we both got fish and both were prepared nicely although there were some texture issues with the skin of the fish, either take it off or make sure the texture is consistent. Most of the flavor on the plate came from the black lentils which was an overpowering taste of lemon pepper. Lemon seemed to be the star of the night. Decent experience, disappointing food.

For a Heaping Helping of Pretense with a Side of Alienation be sure to visit The Boiler Room! I've visited The Boiler Room many times since 2010 when I've been in Omaha for work. I have repeatedly praised the food, service and atmosphere among friends and family here at home in Portland, OR. However, upon enthusiastically bringing my husband to The Boiler Room on Saturday, 8/19, with the intention of dining and drinking at the bar (my usual spot) we were met by a cold, pretentious, alienating bar tender who repeatedly insulted us. Most shocking was his response when my husband asked if he had Hendrick’s Gin. The tall, slender, bearded young man proceeded to flip open the beverage menu to the spirits page and, clearly annoyed, run a boney finger down the list of available gin, nary a word from his mouth. We thought it a strange approach, especially on a night that was not terribly busy. We were the only guests at the bar and the dinning room was not filled to capacity. We decided to look past it for the moment and proceeded to order two lovely gin cocktails. We also ordered the (delicious) charcuterie plate but as the evening progressed, we thought it best to explore another option for dinner as our man remained aloof and failed to warm up to us. There were quite a few odd moments as we soldiered on at our bar seats. The most noteworthy is certainly the moment I inspired disapproval when I inquired about a possible glass of Saint Lannes Cote du Gascogne. My request was met with raised eyebrows, a smirk of disbelief and a condescending, “We cook with that wine.” Clearly, we were an utter disappointment. Regardless, we took it on the chin and finished our charcuterie as we each sipped a glass of champagne. Feeling we'd had our fill of abuse for the evening, we soon departed and headed over to La Buvette (a nearby cafe also owned by The Boiler Room proprietors) for a lovely meal in a delightful space with a friendly waiter. As we dined, we tried hard to recall any other occasion in the likes of Portland, San Fransisco, NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc., where we’d been treated as rudely as we'd just been at The Boiler Room. We could not think of one! So, sadly, I will no longer be praising The Boiler Room but rather doing my best to spread the word of it's unfortunate demise. Perhaps it's of no consequence to the folks there and this review will barely register a blip within the life of their business. Still, it gives me great satisfaction to spread the word to the many diners who will pay attention. Also, to the snobby bartender from that dreadful night...if you're going to continue to exercise such snobbery and pretense, please have the decency to pull up your pants so that your guests don't have to bear witness to your exposed back-side. It really keeps us from taking you seriously.

This restaurant really demonstrates excellence in every conceivable manner. My husband and I consider Boiler Room our place for special meals. We're vegetarian, and they impress us always with fine vegetarian entrees. We never feel like we're settling for less than the best, and they're never put out by our vegetarian requests! Thanks Boiler Room!

My wife and I went to the Boiler Room for the first time a few days ago to celebrate our anniversary. It seems like we’ve been to most of the restaurants downtown but we had never visited the Boiler Room. Our reservation was for Friday at 7 PM and surprisingly parking was relatively easy. Because the Boiler Room sits just outside the busiest part of the Old Market, there seems to be a little less traffic and parking space are more prevalent. The signage above the front door is a little small but because we knew where we were going, it wasn’t a problem but for someone new to the area, they might drive by and miss it a time or two. The host at the front collected our coats and lead us to the table. It’s uniquely set up that the entrance is on the street level but the kitchen is below the ground but both areas are open to one another. We were able to sit on the main level which overlooked some other diners and the open kitchen below. It seems that they kept the interior true to its original nature. I don’t know the history of the building but I imagine it was a factory space of some kind. Also they keep the tables fairly separated from one another so it feels like you have a bit more privacy at your own table then you would at another restaurant. For dinner, my wife and I shared a cheese plate and then she had the steak while I had the lamb. The menu was small but sufficient. We didn’t find any salads though, unless we misunderstood the menu. Our server was very good about explaining the menu items to us since some of the vocabulary was unfamiliar and he did so in a way that was informative and without making us feel silly for not recognizing some of the entrées. We both said to one another that we really appreciated the alert but relaxed manner in which he served us. Even the recommendations he made to us felt more sincere than they do most of the time. Frankly all the service staff working nearest us was great. It appeared they all worked within intentional synchronism. We have several people serve us or collect something from us and they all did so seemingly on purpose (rather than just to help a server who has fallen behind). We were impressed with their service on an individual and overall level. It was obvious that the pace of service was meant for a longer, slower meal but our server was quick to adjust to our pace. We’re naturally quick diners. Without having before or after dinner drinks and knowing what we wanted to order, we pushed the pace faster than is typical but we didn’t feel like it was a problem for our waiter. Our whole meal was probably just over an hour but there were many diners who were there when we arrived and still seated when we left. We were too full to try dessert but I think we would return for it. It all looked quite good and I think would be worth the drive to try a few things. Frankly, another night we might do dinner elsewhere (just to try something new) and then return for dessert and coffee. I think our final impression was that it totally competed with other restaurants of similar caliber but may not knock out another one on our personal list of favorites. We would definitely give a positive recommendation to someone who asked us about it. Thanks Boiler Room for letting us celebrate our anniversary with you!

Dined for a special occasion and chose this restaurant for its reknowned ambience, service, and overall fine dining experience. While the food was delectable, the service was sub-par, as the waiter was neither cordial or attentive but curt and brisk without much explanation when asked questions pertaining to the elaborate menu. In fact, none of the service paralled that of other fine dining establishments downtown. Not as versatile as I expected and didn't bargain for the pretentious demeanor of the wait staff during my milestone celebration.

Beginning to end, one fantastic dining experience. The service was impeccable--both knowledgeable and friendly--and the food...wow. We started with the House Charcuterie...every single item was savory, and, although there was a mustard "theme" throughout, the range of tastes was tremendous--I would have come here just for that plate. The wine selection (made from a rather staggering wine list, and with the very able help of the wait staff) was outstanding. I chose the T.D. Niche Farm Berkshire Pork Crepinette for my entree. It was tender, juicy, varied in texture, and so amazingly tasty...and wonderfully different--one of the single best things I've ever eaten, without question. My wife had the Morgan Ranch Wagyu Flank Steak, and was equally impressed. They use local growers, so...yeah, that's pretty wonderful--but they don't flaunt it. The room itself is rustic, historic, very cool and well-appointed. So...in all, very high level chow without the pretentious feel. Truly, truly, I tell you, this is one great place. Hats off.
