The Corner Joint

I've been in Oberlin for a little over a year now and have finally gone into this restaurant (on business - I didn't eat anything). The food looked great and the atmosphere was cozy. There were people in there for the lunch rush but it wasn't obnoxiously overcrowded (probably since it's on the edge of downtown). Feels like a college restaurant. Quiet too considering the size. I guess the open ceiling absorbs a good bit of the volume, or the people who were in there were the quiet sort. In any case, it's a great spot for a lunch.

New place, tried it and loved it. Had the lasagna (on special). House salad dressing unusually delicious. My girl had the jerked tofu (also available as chicken). She loved it. Good atmosphere, outrageously snappy service. Waiter was well dressed and scholarly...impressive. Water boy wore a Space Jam shirt...also impressive. Easy 5 stars, would dine again....heck, I'd just stand outside and lick the windows even.

The Corner Joint opened last week while we were out of town, so we had to try it for dinner our first night back. The place is clicking amazingly well for their first week. Great menu choices and everything for our party of eight came out of the kitchen tasty and delicious. That's not entirely surprising because most of the crew, front and back of house, was the core team at what used to be the best restaurant in town. When they got pushed out by a new owner a couple of years back, they set their sites on opening a joint of their own. Hooray for their resolve and dedication to making this happen. We're sure to be back many times.
