Masala Cuisine

It's cool that this is a mom and pop place and everything. Like literally mom and pop are the only people that work there. But there is no real dining room. It's just a bunch of kitchen equipment and then two folding tables. I was interested in the quaintness of a restaurant in which you dine in the kitchen literally and the chef turns around and puts the bowl on your table. But after the chef removed a tupperware of rice from the fridge and plunged his bare hands into the rice to scoop out my dinner the charm was kind of gone. There are only plastic forks and spoons. The food was on the lower lower end of quality as far as Indian Cuisine goes. Because of how small it is I want more than anything to like this place but honestly it is one of the worst restaurants if not absolutely the worst restaurant I have ever been to. At least the neighborhood is charming and safe and clean.

I love this little family run business. Do not come here looking for a fancy sit down meal, it's for take out. Do not come here looking for fast food, good home cooking is a slower process. The owners are lovely and if you are there when your food is ready they will plate a small sample of each dish so you can check if you'd like them to adjust spice levels. The food is consistently excellent- flavorful and rich without being greasy or overly heavy. I've tried every vegetarian dish, and they are all amazing. However, I think their Shahi Paneer and Bhindi Masala are their standouts. Order for takeout, be patient, then enjoy a great home cooked meal just for you.

Nice place for some home style Indian food. This is place is owned by a couple and everything is cooked to order, including the samosas. There can be a wait (as food is cooked to order) so if you know what you want go ahead and call in your order so it will be ready for you. You can ask (and they will accomodate) for less salt, less oil, more/less spicy depending on what you like.

Truly delicious! Definitely a hole in the wall with graffiti all around. But the couple was great. Cooked our food right there and made sure the spices were just right by giving us a little bit to taste before she served up the final dish. Totally homemade. They only take cash. Be prepared so you don't have to pay the fee at the little ATM in the liquor store around the corner!

Excellent takeout! Ordered butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, eggplant dish, and okra. Everything freshly prepared and spiced perfectly. Because everything is prepared to order allow at least 30-45 min before pickup but worth the wait. Thought they must have added msg as it was so good but no headache. Bring enough cash. In east Oakland so take precautions.

Hands down the best Indian food I've had in the Bay Area. When we come here, we make sure to order 5 or 6 dishes so we can take a bunch of leftovers home and eat it the rest of the week. Yep, it's that good. Leave yourself plenty of time - they begin cooking your dishes as soon as you order, so it takes about 45 minutes for your food to come out. BUT it's totally worth the wait. Can't rave enough about this place.
