Was really pleasantly surprised by my egg salad sandwich and coffee here. Definitely a quieter more lowkey alternative to Philz across the street. Accessible outlets are a big help and there’s a ton of outdoor seating. Usually pretty crowded in the morning but it settles in the afternoon
This is my favorite place to get beans in the East Bay. A quality roaster with full bodied (not scorched) dark roasts. Definitely not third wave, but that just means their roasts have more variety. Their cafe is great, too. It's one of the only places I know where their mochas aren't overly sweet. What a great place.
Open again! Remodelling is finished and the retail store opened Monday, 11 March 2019. Still the same "always good coffee and friendly staff."
Some of the best coffee locally, both beans and drinks. Friendly staff and always patient with my questions. Great for gifts -- everyone loves it (well, all my coffee lovers do. They also sell bulk tea).
A customer of Cole's for a decade switching from Pete's after they went corporate, and not a 'reviewer' but doing this now to support an outstanding independent local business in these very tough times. First, the beans are excellent, so good I order them shipped to me when away for any length of time (excellent shipping service to boot). We've settled on one particular bean for the moment but tried others: in summary it was good, better, best. Owner/manager Michael is still behind the counter nearly 15 years in. Great corner location in a unique neighborhood, friendly staff and congenial customers: a classic.
This coffee shop has been a great choice for years. Yummy food, lovely atmosphere, good service. The Arnold Palmer is really good, indicating that both the lemonade and the tea used are high quality.
Really enjoyed the ambiance in this cafe. Very very cozy feel but with not so much inside sitting space (alot of outside sitting space though!). The coffee selection they have is very diverse and they taste very bold and strong which I enjoy. They don't overcharge, which goes for around $2 for a medium size coffee, so definitely a place to come back to multiple times to try out different flavors without breaking the bank. Come here early in the morning to get the best seat in the house.
Independently owned small coffee shop and beanery. Lots of fair trade and organic beans to choose from. My favorite is the Timor with fruity and chocolate notes. Consistent quality for the 15 years I've been a customer. I always bring a few pounds for my friends and family when I go to Germany. You would think that's like carrying owls to Athens, but it's always worth the luggage space.
