Moldova Restaurant is a very special family-run restaurant in which everything--from the sayings on the wall, flowers on the table, and quality and
attention put into making the dough for the pies and filling for the sarmale (Moldovan stuffed cabbage and grape leaves) is done with love and attention. My husband and I normally cook at home and are very picky, but this place is worth it. The plaacinte la tigaie: homemade pan-fried pies are amazing--and you can have one with either a sweet (e.g. cherry) or savory (e.g. cabbage) filling. The sarmale are similar to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern sarma/dolma in some ways, but the fillings are wonderful and unique, and the sour cream goes with them perfectly. There are many other wonderful things on their menu. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants honest, real, delicious food made with care and served in an environment that is both unpretentious and nice enough for a special occasion.
While visiting our son in Boston he chose this place for us, to try something different. Food was excellent. Food reminded me of food my Greek mom made. We started with the cheesepie as an appetizer, which was similiar tasting to tiropita. My son and wife had the stuffed grape leafs and cabbages. First time I had them stuffed with chicken but they were very tasty and quite good. I had the minced meat rolls, while very good, I preferred the stuffed leafs over it. Cabbage salad was better than any cole slaw ever tasted. We had a side of noodles and feta cheese. Tasted great but its texture was too soft for me. We tried both crepes. Cherry definitely best of the 2. Sweet cheese& raisins I was expecting more of a connoli taste but it still was good. Wines were also liked. We will be back on a future visit.
Another amazing google find. We started off with dumplings (pork & potato) My main course was the Lamb kebab with delicious fried potatoes and pickles. My wife had two sides, fried potatoes and noodles with cheese. We shared the panned fried fresh apple pie. We highly recommend Moldova if you want something a little different. The servers were very friendly and professional. The atmosphere is very nice with plenty of seating.
Wanted to come here a while ago, cos some of my friends are Moldovan and I was curious to try this traditional cuisine. And and it was above my expectations. Food is delicious, place is neat and tidy, beautifully arranged space, waiter was very attentive and responsive. I'm definitely coming back to try all the variety of food and wines they have. Make sure you come here hungry 😁
Delicious and interesting Eastern European food! I've never had Moldovan food before and this was awesome. The selection of Moldovan wine and beer was also really good! We brought home some Moldovan grapes and that was really cool too! Highly recommend the borscht -- wish they had it year round! Would definitely visit here again
Great experience dining here for lunch. We shared our dishes and the food came out quickly, as it was ready. We easily ordered more throughout the meal as our hearts desired, and the waitstaff was the perfect combination of attentive (we always had water) without disruption. Not to mention, everything was delicious!
Authentic Moldovan cuisine experience with friendly service.
Recently traveled all the way to Newton to try this place. Everything from their interior to their staffs looked like Moldovan, and they also had a selection of imported beer and wine from Moldova on sale which was interesting.
Similar to other Eastern European food, most of the dishes were served with sour cream which I thought was the best I’ve had. The consistency of the sour cream was thicker than normal, but it almost tasted like butter. Without any additional sauce or seasonings, everything tasted better when topped with it.
For the appetizer, we had the cheese dumplings and the cheese and herb pie which had a strong cotta cheese flavor, but the sour cream helped it tone down. Friptura de porc was slightly dry, but the pickled vegetables and the polenta on the side were excellent. The pickled veggies added an additional layer of flavor that made the whole dish more wholesome. Mititei Moldovenești was somewhat similar to kebabs, but they were definitely better than the roasted pork in terms of the meat quality.
Highly recommend trying this place if you enjoy exploring new cuisines.
Had a wonderful dinner tonight at Moldova. I love trying new cuisine and Moldova did not disappoint. My friend and I started out with red sangrias and they were delicious. We then ordered an array of apps. We wanted to try their traditional pies so we ordered the cow cheese and herb pie and the potato pie. They were both very good, but we both preferred the potato pie. We also got the roasted eggplant that came warm and we paired it with some bread and it was excellent. My favorite app though was the pork dumplings. Tiny warm dumplings that melted in your mouth!! We were feeling too full to order entrees so we decided to try some dessert. We had the apple and cherry pies which were warm and flakey, so good. Next time we will try the entrees. We sat outside and it was a nice atmosphere and the waiter was great, very attentive. Excellent service, we will be back!
