I received an invite for a VIP tasting at Redondo Taqueria. I have never been to this restaurant, and felt like this was the best time to try it out: when I could eat for free and sample a bunch of different options. All restaurants should do tastings, especially when they are revamping the menu! Many thanks to the good folks at Redondo for inviting me and for dinner!
Good lunch for a day at the movies..... We had just a bit of time to grab something to eat between shows at the AMC movie theater. Our waitress promised we'd be in and out in 45 minutes. This place did not disappoint... We ordered chips and salsa and the carnitas asada large plate to share for lunch. It all was very good. We will do it again sometime...
Love this place!! The ambiance is super relaxing- not all crazy and loud like Bakersfield, the food is great and the prices very reasonable. Great addition to the Newport Levy!!
Lengua Tacos. That is all.. We went a couple weeks ago on a Tuesday around 6pm and the four of us were the ONLY patrons in the restaurant. That didn't really deter us though. I ordered a sampler of tacos that included the pork belly, fish, and lengua tacos. The pork belly was nothing special, the fish was excellent, but man oh man the lengua. So tender, so good! It colored my whole experience, not noticing what my husband thought was a bit pricy menu and slow service. By the time we left there were 5 more tables filled. I'd go back if only for the lengua tacos.
Not sure why there is such negativity about this place.. I am not sure why there are so many bad reviews about this place. I have gone there twice and I have had great experiences both times. The first time, my wife and I went there late on a Saturday night and we had a margarita, chips, salsa, guacamole, and another drink and the entire bill was $8. We literally could not believe it and thought there was some kind of mistake that it could be that cheap. Apparently they have a happy hour every Saturday night, which evidently is dirt cheap. Also, the whole atmosphere of the place is great. We were there in the summer and we were able to sit outside on the patio, which was very nice. The decor of the place is upscale. They have a fully stocked bar with any tequila you could think of and all the best Mexican beers.
The second time we went there, we had dinner on a Saturday night. The server was nice and she was always prompt with refills and taking our order. Yes, you do have to pay for chips and salsa, but I don't see why it is such a big surprise like some of these reviews are making it out to be. If you go to Nada in downtown or Bakersfield in OTR you will certainly pay for chips and salsa. For one of the appetizers, you are able to choose multiple different salsas, such as grilled pineapple, which was different but delicious. I had a chicken quesadilla for my meal, which smelled fresh and was presented very well. It tasted great. My wife had a chicken wrap, which she also liked. I had the mezzo margarita, which was large and had plenty of tequila in it to make it worth the $8.
In conclusion, I am glad a place like this opened in Newport. It is a short walk from where we live and we will definitely be coming here again. Again, I don't know why there are so many negative reviews about this place, I have had great experiences both times I've gone here. People seem to love Bakersfield even though there's always a two hour wait and no matter where you sit there are people literally standing on top of you. This place is very spacious, you're not going to have people standing next to your table while are you eating and making you feel uncomfortable like Bakersfield. The food is good, the drinks are solid, and they have plenty of tequila. The prices are definitely reasonable. We spent less than two thirds of what we would at Nada or Bakersfield. Give it a try.
A little slow on a Thursday for happy hour. We went as a family and enjoyed every bit of what we ordered. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Food was fantastic; well seasoned, cooked properly, and slightly different from the normal "Mexican cuisine" (food was not hidden under a blanket of red sauce). Recommend the 3 salsa sampler. We will definitely make the trip again. Good service, good food, good atmosphere.
Stopped in here for dinner when I was in the area.
The food was very good. I had the Beef Machaca tacos. They were very tasty. The service was quite good - our server was very attentive without being overly so.
I recommend checking this place out if you're in the mood for good tacos.
Went during Cincinnati burger week, this place had the best burger out of all the places that we tried, juicy patty stuffed with flavorful chorizo! It was a special menu item just for burger week, but we hope they keep it around because we would definitely return for it many more times! The fries on the side were awesome as well. Nice breezy seating for a hot day.
Honestly one of the best burritos I have ever eaten(and I eat a lot of burritos). Custom made and severed with rice & beans. Staff was very nice and overall we had a good experience.
Be careful when ordering though. Their menu is not descriptive in the least. Ask about what you want to order. You might order something drowned in something you hate (sour cream) even though it wasn't listed on the menu. They did however take that item off of my partners check so they at least did the right thing.
