We had not been here in quite some time. The service was attentive. The food was average, at best. The dishes were greasy and tasteless. My hot and sour soup was gelatinous, and there was no evidence of either hot or sour. The shrimp in the Hunan shrimp were large and fairly well prepared. The vegetables, however, were cold.
Maybe it was an off night. I'm not sure whether I'll be back.

Excellent food and service. Huge portions, and the meats are tender and flavorful.
My all time favorite Chinese restaurant. My family has been going here for over 40 years

Nice little hidden gem. Wonderful seafood and cozy atmosphere. Scallops were wonderful. Staff is kind of family, so it's a bit rough, but they try. Definitely worth a try.

Dropped in for dinner based on others reviews and really glad we did! The food was really good and really affordable. We got the dinner special for two with the pu pu platter and it was really fun when it came to the table with the mini flaming grill. We ate a lot and still took leftovers home. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The whole dining experience was pretty long as it was busy when we got there so depending on when you go, don't expect to your food to be served quickly but our waitress had given us a heads up. Definitely recommend and we will be back!

Great food and service will definitely go back

I've never been to a Chinese restaurant with such kind staff. 3pm on a Saturday is obviously when senior citizens enjoy a quiet time & some extra special service. I was amazed by how attentive the waitresses were to all the customers who came in.
My Pork Mu-shu was delicious & I was even treated with real chilli oil!

Ate here 1/22/22! This food was amazing! The rice is seasoned, the general tso chicken is WHITE MEAT, with plenty of sauce and it pairs well with the egg roll!!!! I have been in 757 for over 6 months and tried many Chinese joints! This is by far the best (For general tso chicken)

The food here was excellent! I'm not sure who was in that kitchen but it tasted like a Chinese Big Momma was working their stove!!

Always a good meal! And they have the best PuPu platter around!

Have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years and alway was good. A party of 6 of us went tonight and it took 15 mins to each be served our food. By the time our first guest was done with dinner the rest of our food came out. I went and talked to the manny and she never acknowledged the problem in the kitchen or took off anything from our bill, not even a soda and our bill was $150.00 without a tip. I told her that she should be ashamed of herself for not doing anything about the problem, took our money and grinned as we left. I will be contacting the owner....

I grew up with similar delicious food! Linen table covers, wide fresh crunchy noodles, duck sauce, soup is great, chicken dishes very tasty, service was fun, attentive, prices good!

Im an American Chinese connoisseur. THIS is one of the best examples of a classic 1950s style Chinese restaurant. You MUST dine in (the menu is different as well). The Pu Pu tray comes out flaming! There are Tiki drinks. The food has the elusive wok hei (wok breath) flavor. Beautiful presentation. Get the dinner for two (or four, etc) with the Pu Pu tray and wonton soup and you will not be disappointed. SO much food! Amazing friendly service from a seasoned skilled server.

The wonderful newly remodeled atmosphere along with some really great food and company of the people who run this place was amazing... All I have to say is try anything on the menu, you can't go wrong no matter what you choose... Big portions and exquisite taste along with the care that they put into each and every customer that walks through the door ... Treating them like family... No better place ... I give this restaurant a 5 star review... Love it

They served me rotten beef, it was even green! I ordered Szechuan beef, the veggies were nice (even cut into cute shapes) but then I tasted the meat. Do you know how long it takes to get rotten meat flavor out of your mouth? It's a long time.
The hot and sour soup also had random bits of various left-over meats added to it. Very gross.
Sadly, they still charged us for our drinks and soup.

I almost forgot, they smoke in the restaurant too. I didn't witness it, but as an ex-smoker, I can still smell when I'm in a smoking environment.
R

We Loved It!
We are from Summerfield Florida visiting daughter in Williamsburg. She recommended Port Arthur in Newport News, and we have eaten there twice in the past two weeks. Exceptionally good food. It's several levels higher than most other Chinese food we have had.
Shrimp with lobster sauce was thick and flavorful rather the watery versions we have had elsewhere. Cashew chicken was a nice garlic sauce with a lot of cashews. Boo loo gai had real tasty fried chicken nuggets with pineapple, lychee nuts, maraschino Cherries, and broccoli served over rice with sweet and sour sauce. All vegatables were really fresh.
Started meal with sizzling rice soup (almost can't find this any more), shrimp fried wontons (crab cheese with shrimp), and egg rolls (real deal, fresh and tasty). All sauces seemed made for their dishes and not just one sauce fits all. Several different sweet and sour sauces.

Service was efficient, place was nicely appointed, and prices were really reasonable given amount and quality. This restaurant is not to be missed. We will be back whenever we visit Williamsburg (and maybe even later in the week).

Staff is very friendly, portions are very generous but the price is a little high. We thought it was ok but haven't eaten there since

Unusual for Area. Simply put, if you have three or four favorite Chinese restaurants in the 617/508 area codes, you are probably going to like/love this place.

Metal utensils, cloth napkins, a liquor license, duck sauce that doesn't come out of ketchup packets and waitstaff that know the food and can make intelligent recommendations are just some of the signs that are in a real restaurant, not another of the glorified takeout joints that sadly prevail in this part of the world.

We had the pu-pu platter Moo Goo Gai Pan and General's Chicken. Interestingly the fried shrimp on the platter was encased in a pig wad of dough, as you would expect, but the General's chicken had almost zero breading. Both were great. There was nothing we didn't like, but be aware that the General's chicken is on the gingery rather than spicy end of the spectrum. There is zero argument with the quality but if you don't like the taste of ginger it probably isn't for you.

Inside it looks, tastes, feels and pretty much sounds like you're on Route 1. If that's your thing, this is your place.
Port Arthur
@Drew D.. We are feeling sorry about your visit but we felt bad as you're writing a review that's not true.

Right! We are old since we are opened 40 yrs already, full of memory but not out dated. As our hostess said, we are cooking in different way and I believe that it can be different between all the Chinese restaurant but the same food. Our General Tso's Chicken is made by White Meat and we are using the best Branded's Flank Steak for our Beef with Broccoli. Our waitress explained the purpose of the fire for the sampler but you still said "still can't figure out".

We were sorry that you don't like our foods so we didn't charge your dishes those even not had a bite on it (we are all wondering how can you said that was a horrible food as you didn't eat it). However, still, alot of customers like them. Please don't insult our customers whose still coming to our restaurant! Thank you!

Not As Advertised. My wife and I went to Port Aurther for lunch because they had a banner in front of their entrance that stated they were Hampton Roads' 2010 winners for Asian cuisine. We had no preset expectations but we were really excited to try their lunch specials. First, the decor is relatively old and outdated but not a dealbreaker. Second, we felt bad for the one waitress that was taking care of all the patrons for lunch (again...surprised that it wasn't as crowded as we expected).

We ordered an appetizer sampler and General Tso's Chicken and Beef with Mushroom and Broccoli. The soup came out and for the most part ok. When the sampler platter came out, the waitress lit a couldren on fire for a purpose we still can't figure out. The sampler was so greasy and the breading on the fried portions was so thick that we could taste the deep frying oil (which tasted like it was not replaced for quite some time) right through to the meat.

Finally, we received our main course and it was so disappointing, my wife demanded that I write this review so others would avoid this monstrosity of a restaurant. The Genral Tso's chicken came with what I would call thick molasses barbeque sauce that they considered appropriate sauce. The beef with brocolli and mushrooms had some form of gravy poured all over it that tasted horrible and the brocolli was so mushy and tasteless that we could only take one bite of the nightmare dishes.

When we told the hostess what our issues were with the dishes, she politely stated that all restaurants make each dish differently; however, I am pretty sure General Tso's chicken should taste relatively the same no matter where you go, especially at a Hampton Roads award winning restaurant.

In conclusion, stay away if you pride yourself on appreciating fine asian cuisine. I am Asian so I have every right to critique the authenticity and taste of things being passed off as Asian food. I normally do not take the time to write reviews; however, the disgraceful dishes that Port Author gave us was so deplorable that this review was necessary.

Great Experience. We had outstanding service there. I have never had a friendlier waitress. The food was pretty good for the price. We will definitely return.

The food from this place is some of the nastiest stuff I have tasted. The chow mein was all onions and 6 miniscule slices of chicken. So gross!

Nice surprise. We're new to town and the name sounded off, but on Valentine's we were excited to find the 1st "non-strip mall" chinese restaurant googled! Nice simple, pretty, and quiet atmosphere, friendly service, GOOD looking and tasting dishes! They have good almond cookies I haven't had since living in midwest for the past 10 yrs. That was a nice nostalgic touch for me! We've only been there once, but look forward to going again!

Very well done. Tasted awesome. Presentation was very nice. The dishes are cooked just right with little hints of flavor hidden throughout.
