Excellent if you order the right things. Every time we come to New York, we always eat here since it has been consistently fantastic every single meal. There are plenty of authentic Shanghai style dishes to choose from, so go that route instead of getting something that is american influence chinese (beef and broccoli for example). The soup dumplings here are delicious, with a shot of broth inside each dumpling as you bite into it. Also, the vegetarian "meat" dishes are really good. I can say them in chinese but I'm not sure how to translate it into English since I just ask for it without looking in the menu. Also, we had a shredded pork and leek dish that was really delightful. Nice authentic flavors. Also, ordered a salt and pepper shrimp (may or may not have been on the menu. didn't bother to look and just asked about it) which was really good. Perfectly cooked, with a nice subtle heat and saltiness. I will always eat here every time I am in New York because it's been that good every time.

Meh. Just came back from my holiday lunch with the co-workers...courtesy of the boss.

I had extra-spicy, General Tso's jumbo shrimp- pretty good.
Co-worker #1 had: tofu with mushrooms - looked good
Co-worker #2 had: orange chicken - looked OK
Co-worker #3 had: vegetable patty - looked very good
Co-worker #4 & #5: I don't recall at all

We had chicken dumplings & vegetable rolls as appetizers.
The dumplings were aaaight & the vegetable rolls were pathetic.

All in all my dish was pretty good...the rest of the stuff- I easily could have ordered it all at the local chinese joint by the b/f's spot for a 1/3 of the price.

Tang Pavillion is definitely one of my favorite Chinese restaurants (with the Peking Duck House) outside of Chinatown. Don't get fooled if you get rushed: the food is great!

Food: The appetizers are fabulous and delicious, it goes without saying that the soup dumpling is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and bbq styled ribs are too amazing I love particularly the Shanghai style meatball. It definitely comes at a way larger portion than I expected. Environment: The interior design is fancy, definitely has the vibe you’d see in old Hollywood movies (kinda sorta reminds of that restaurant from the Year of Dragon). There are some calligraphy pieces and other visual art pieces presented, vintage and aesthetic. Service: The waiters are incredible too. Patient and great to talk to if you are in need of suggestions when ordering. I love how I could blurrily hear them speaking in Shanghai dialect somehow lol.

Excellent Shanghainese meal near MOMA. I came here with 2 other adults and 2 kids around lunchtime on a weekend and we were greeted and seated right away. In fact, service was excellent throughout. We ordered 3 dishes which were just right with no leftovers. The Drunk Chicken is a MUST! Typically served cold, the Shaoxing wine flavor of its brine really shined through for an extremely tasty chicken. Then the Shanghai-Style Noodles (customized with tofu) are ANOTHER MUST TRY! The texture and bite of these noods was so satisfying! Then their 8-Jewel Shrimp dish off of their Shanghai Specials menu was chock full of yummy shrimp, tofu, edamame, mushrooms, and more with well-balanced spice. I would order everything again! Let's Tang!!! NOTES/TIPS: **Wheelchair-accessible space and restrooms **Plenty of tables, vast menu. Most entrees come with rice.

The service and atmosphere were excellent. The food was eh. The soup dumplings were okay (with pork). The lunch items I got were not that good. The pork with string beans was so-so. The string beans were okay, but the pork was very miniscule and too sweet (the sauce itself ruined the dish). The mixed vegetables were better, but has some other sauce with a pungent type of taste and smell. It was okay, but other restaurants in Chinatown and flushing make way better versions of mixed vegetables. The food is 3 stars, service and atmosphere 5 stars. Also ended up spending 60 bucks on an appetizer and two lunch specials. Not cheap and not worth the value of the food itself. Come if you are near central park, otherwise try elsewhere.

Just as good as it was when I lived next door to it 20 years ago. General Tso's chicken with broccoli and white rice. Super tasty and a prompt lunch meal.

Had a lovely late-night dinner for 12 around the lazy Susan. Excellent food and very patient staff as they waited to pack up.

Opened by the President Chiang Kai Shek's chef. Perfect pan fried scallion pancake. Juicy soup dumpling. This is the authentic Chinese food that does not over season the food. Real taste of the Chinese food.

We went in on a Monday afternoon a little after 4pm so the place was empty. The staff was courteous and the food was really good! Soup dumplings were really good as were the other dishes we ordered. Fried rice, chicken with walnuts, beef and broccoli as well as bok choy and mushrooms! Really great place to check out after the Moma, which is close by.
