Review Esca - New York City

Great service and delicious food! Wife and I came here just this past weekend. We usually don't eat at upscale restaurants so we treated ourselves this once. The staff are very friendly and accommodating! The ambiance was nice both inside and out. Food was delicious but portion sizes are kinda small. They seemed to have limitless [delicious] bread though! When my wife thought she lost something by our table, several staff members stopped what they were doing right away to help us look. That kind of care was very nice to experience. And Joe made our experience very welcoming and awesome

It's my third time here. The best place to eat if you are somewhere near to Times Square. Food is tasty, service is exceptional. I just like this place so much. Will definitely come back!

Raw fish sampler dish was fantastic! And I did not like raw fish before trying it here. Our waiter was amazing. Churros were "icing on the cake" of a wonderful lunch. Will absolutely be back.

Service was very good. Very friendly and attentive. Food was pretty good ( u have to like seafood/italian food). Kale veggies, which we ordered as a side dish, was bit too salty for our taste.

AMAZING dinner. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The food was unreal. The sea bass melted in your mouth. The side dishes (potatoes, green onions, and collards) were flavorful and perfectly cooked. We got oysters which were fantastic! The old fashioneds were super solid - strong, but not too overpowering. The gnocchi had a really nice and soft texture. Absolutely loved this place. It’s on the pricier side (for all that we got), but I highly recommend for a more special occasion.

Had an amazing experience coming here. Staff were knowledgeable and were open with wine pairings. Beautiful restaurant, but still relaxed enough that you could enjoy yourself. Would recommend to anyone looking for good seafood fare!

Super awesome place. The food was so good in a kinda non-trendy way. I don't need my small portion covered in a bed of leaves, thanks. The octopus app was outstanding and a simply prepared, salt-baked branzino was moist and delicious. I really like that they served limes in addition to lemons with the fish. I would be a regular here if I lived anywhere near.

I've been going to Esca with my wife every time we visit NYC for the past 15 years. It is consistent and consistently great for crudo, pasta and the freshest fish. We were surprised to see the dining room has been remodeled & updated with a lighter, modern, more open and spacious feel. The food and service remain unchanged, all perfect.

Just had an amazing dinner tonight. Waiter Joe was so attentive & knowledgeable & the first thing he asked was, "are you going to a show this evening?" & yes we were going to "Hello Dolly" so he made sure our food came out on time so we weren't late. We had the scallops, grilled octopus & the oysters, all just perfect. And they had time to surprised my wife with a Happy Birthday dessert. Thanks for the hospitality.

Both the meal and the dessert were fabulous. Found this spot by chance as I was headed to a different location that had a wait longer than I cared for. I arrived early and didn't have a reservation and was seated right away. The dessert looks like a giant Swiss roll :)

The place is great. The attention from the staff is very friendly and eager to assist you. The food is awesome. My personal favourites were the octopus and the pumpkin gnocchi. Absolutely brilliant.

Delicious! The waiters really know what they're talking about and the cocktails go with every course!

The food and service was amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in the mood for seafood with some Italian flair.

Great food, fresh and great service. A good place to go before a Broadway show!

Firstly, the staff is SO nice. Very welcoming, accommodating, and had excellent service (our server was Santiago! Thank you to him!) I ordered the Pollo al Mattone (local organic chicken) and it was the best chicken i’ve ever had. It was crispy on the outside and still juicy on the inside; perfectly cooked. Ended up thanking the chef and he was very thankful about it and i knew i had to write a review! I highly recommend this dish to anyone who has the pleasure of eating here; you won’t regret it!

Try the octopus appetizer! The corn salad is amazing---but only available till the end of August.

Good Italian seafood. Great service. If you're eating outside at night you might see a few critters. Very nice environment.

We shared an appetizer of pasta and then the Branzino. Both were terrific. The service was about the best I ever recall. They are very attentive but not over bearing. They are not stuffy but happy to greet you as a welcome guest. We really liked it. We had to make a curtain call and they made sure we had a great meal yet made the curtain. It was all seamless.

One of the best meals I have ever eaten! Our family enjoyed dinner for almost three hours. We never felt rushed, the service was attentive and knowledgeable, the dishes were perfectly executed with flavor profiles, texture and freshness! The wines we enjoyed were impeccable and expertly presented. We made wonderful memories and we will definitely be back!

Last night I had an amazing time! We ate at ESCA before seeing a show. The service was amazing the staff was very attentive. We're still talking about the food! The food was unbelievable it was like art in my mouth. I ate the calmari and had the cod for my main course. It was so tender and soft and tasty with every bite. I'm so glad my waiter suggested I top it with truffles. It was my first time eating truffles and now I'm hooked. Yes it was very expensive but we'll worth it. I'll definitely be back.

By far one of the best meals I have ever had. The crudo sample was divine, the Branzino was perfect, and the grilled porgy was amazing (that salsa verde was worth the whole meal!!) The veggie side sample was delcious and the variety was so fun! Too full for dessert so had an espresso, and they even made it into a macchiato for me. Exceptional table service, including a brief discussion about how we would like the meal timed. I literally cannot think of a single thing that could have made the evening better. Thank YOU, ESCA!

The food was very salty..both mine and my sister's dish. I thought it was overpriced for what you got. The salad for $19 had "winter greens" only. When I asked for grated cheese for the salad, they came with a small dish that didn't have enough on it. Finally, when the bill came they charged me $35 for the ravioli instead of the $28 listed on the menu. I told the waiter, but he said he was sure it was $35. When he checked, he said I was right....that the previous night it was $35 but did not sell well. They changed it and apologized. The service was very good. I won't be going back.

5-star food and service! Everything was fabulous from start to finish. The pacing of the meal was perfect and the waitstaff was great about explaining how each course was prepared. This is NOT a quick in-and-out restaurant. It's perfect if you want to enjoy a high end gourmet meal at a comfortable pace.

Delicious start to finish! Can't wait to return!!! We especially enjoyed meeting the chef and his staff exceeded all our expectations! I highly recommend the Aragosta (lobster, crab, and avocado salad) for a starter. The Chocolate Mousse dessert is amazing with the moscato after dinner drink. The restaurant has an upscale and calming ambience just steps from the busy Times Square area. I'm so glad we discovered ESCA!

We went after theatre, so it was late and it wasn't very crowded. Service was excellent and so was the food. The maccheroni alla chitarra with sea urchin were the best I ever tasted (and I tasted quite a lot of them in Italy). Sure it's not cheap but in NYC nothing is. The only really overpriced thing is the wine list but, again, that's quite common in Manhattan (I live in Italy and I can assure you that the same wines would have cost less than half in Milan). All in all, a very positive experience.

I've eaten at Esca many times. Food is consistently delicious. Creative dishes from the sea. Sommelier is very helpful in pairing wines with food choices. Servers are friendly and helpful. They are very good at describing the flavors you will experience.
Gregory Purnhagen
Had a very nice pre-theater dinner with very attentive service that got us off to our show in plenty of time. The menu is a bit pricy but the food was very delicious. We sat in the back room, which was comfortably cozy. The Bastianich house wines were very palatable and not overly expensive.
Chris Bryant
Very disappointed. The food was way over seasoned, and my wife had to send her first dish back because it was too salty and acidic. The dish they replaced it with was equally gross and inedible.

Terrible food, awful wine, meager portions and high prices!! Definitely miss this restaurant! It won’t be around much longer!

Excellent food. Charlie, our server, took amazing care of us during our visit to Esca. We had a wonderful evening and will return when we visit New York City again.

Beautiful restaurant, outstanding food, sublime wine. Love Joe, the waiter, Pietro, the Som, and Nico, the GM.

Service impeccable. Food amazing. Restaurant is beautiful and the background music was great. Wine selection was exceptional. The Chef is phenomenal and so personable...we chatted all night. Great night.

The food was fabulous and the wait staff were very attentive and helpful with making recommendations. We never felt rushed at any time. A little pricey though, however, we would definitely return to this restaurant.

The crab, lobster avacado salad was extremely salty. The zuppa di pesce was really bad, very strong bouilliabase, tasted and smelled like low tide,at the bay. Very disappointed However, our waiter Charlie was excellent.
