The food made for a pretty standard dim sum experience. I like what I got and the place looks very nice, but I wasn't impressed with the food quality. FYI: They charge you tea once you have sat down and they ask if you want some.
Great food. Great service. Less msg in my opinion. Don't get the soup dumplings if you are looking for a thin wrap. The wrap is thicker than I would prefer.
Excellent dim sum. Clean restaurant. Pleasant service. Everything we ordered was tasty and presented wonderfully.
Great dim sum. Little bit pricy. The durian cake is awesome.
Red Egg, a pretty relaxed upscale Chinese food restaurant and Dim Sum place is great for some excellent food above delivery or the lower tier places in the area. They have private rooms for events as well. The food was pretty good. For a group of 8, we tried pretty much every dim sum available and each was tasty. The soup dumplings were a favorite. It would be nice if they had more than one or two types on the menu. We didn’t get anything from the main menu, but it looked like mostly modern takes on Chinese classics. The menu itself is huge. The cocktail selection is pretty big and everything we tried was enjoyed. The beer menu is a bit small and bottles only which is disappointing. Service was very friendly and surprisingly fast.
They have Dim Sum in the evening. What more do I need to say? Great selection and also a full menu.
We were there today and overall it was pretty good. We had high standards coming from Vancouver which has very good Asian food and we weren’t disappointed. Food was good and service was good too.
If I had gone with more people we would have ordered more dishes to try.
Tried the pork buns, great.
Shrimps rice rolls, very good.
Pork and chives dumpling, great.
Soup dumplings, very good. Always wanted to try those ones.
It's interesting that there's a wide range of reviews ranging from really bad to great. My experience the three times I've been there has been great. I've only come in for dim sum and I found the quality to be excellent. Also, I only order the steamed dim sum and not the fried. The only one that I found to be mediocre was the soupy dumplings.
The dim sum wrappings were just right in the thickness, translucency and slight chewiness. I also appreciate the added flavorful garnishes in the sauces that some of the dim sum had. They are ordered a la carte from golf type cards and not from hurried carts like in some other typical dim sum restaurants. There is a smaller variety but it's of excellent quality.
Red Egg is one of the very few Dim Sum establishments in NYC where you can make a reservation, which is how we ended up there. We were pleasantly surprised by the very good quality dim sum here! The service was good and restaurant clean. The only reason for a four versus a five was the traditional look and feel, but this certainly wouldn't stop me from returning. Save room for dessert!
Great dim sum without the loudness of other more popular places! Also without the hassle of ordering from carts, as you order off the menu. Quality of food is good, especially the shrimp dumplings! Decor is also nicer than other places.
