Had breakfast with my husband. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. Very comfortable setting for a fast paced area. Will go back again for sure!
My favourite diner ever! Loved the atmosphere and the people. Add to that an awesome menu selection with great food...can't go wrong.

Everything but the Hashbrowns. Square Diner is a long, narrow old time diner. There are rumors it might have once been a train car, but I think it's too wide for that. In any event, to step into the place brings back all of the nostalgia of the 50's Diner complete with booths and stools at the counter. Whether it be for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner...there's something for just about every palette.
I'd walked by this place on several occasions and thought how fun it might be to try it. I woke up half-dreaming of those diner-ific hashbrowns...you know the ones...shredded potatoes fried crisp on both sides on the grill. Oh I had my heart set on those! When I began thinking about where I might find those perfect potatoes, I though of the Square Diner and decided to pay it a visit.
I ordered a Western Omelet with American Cheese (just like when I was a kid) which came with potatoes and toast. When I arrived to my disappointment, the potatoes I sought after weren't what I got, but the cottage-type potatoes that came with my omelet were tasty nonetheless. The Omlet itself was perfect. Three eggs with plenty of fixings to offer something in every bite. The juice was fresh if not a little warm and the toast was even tasty but came unbuttered, which is kinda lazy if you ask me.
Square Diner offers great food in a fun, neighborhoody atmosphere. They don't take credit cards so bring cash. The prices are reasonable, the portions are good and the staff was attentive and friendly. Recommended.
We loved it!! We went on Saturday around 11 am. We got a table for 2 people after 15-20 min waiting (first come, first served) which is good considering that every diner in NYC is busy on the weekends. The manager and the staff were nice and diligent. The food was delicious. I recommend the pancakes, they were fluffy, perfectly buttered and if you want toppings they add them on top and in between the pancakes. The place is a traditional diner perfect for an american style brunch
The picture says it ALL! The best chicken salad sandwich that I have ever eaten. And the chicken soup warmed my soul! The diner feels like NYC, sounds like NYC, and has a very attentive staff. We loved it so much that we went back before we left.
So cute and cozy! Great for a winter day. The portions are large and the food & service is great. The diner is in an old train car, I think. I ordered the Teddy’s Special and it was great. Also, the coleslaw that came with the order was excellent.
I looked into eateries in NYC with a 'classic' diner feel, and thankfully was pointed in the direction of this great spot. It was the perfect place for us to get breakfast our first morning in the city - in fact it set the bar so high, nowhere managed to top it!
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent and really reasonably priced. The atmosphere was exactly what I was after. Thank you!

Very nice diner with great service. The food was average but the place was very clean with indoor and outdoor seating. They have lots of options and I would recommend going here if you’re in the area.

Extremely busy diner. Staff weren't very friendly but were run off their feet. The service once we had ordered was quick. I really enjoyed my poached eggs and avocado toast. My husband enjoyed his sandwich and said it was one of the best he'd had.
A great original diner in Tribeca. We had better breakfasts in NY but certainly among the best!!
