Hot dog was good, but didn’t feel like it was anything too spectacular. The mango juice was amazing, the papaya juice was just okay. Biggest challenge is eating your hot dog once you buy it. No where to sit besides the outside benches by the road. Tried a lot of hotdogs while on my trip to NYC - Didn’t feel like King Papaya was what I expected from all the local Hype.
This place had amazing hot dogs. The NY onions were pretty good - I'd describe them as onions with ketchup and vinegar. The kraut, of course, was delicious.
We ordered some curly fries and they were not cooked well at all. It was as if the oil wasn't hot enough and they were pulled way too early. The fries were soggy and greasy as well as under-cooked.
I got mango and my wife got papaya - absolutely loved the mango juice. The papaya juice almost tasted more like a papaya smoothie.
The history of this place is pretty interesting and worth the reading. I came mostly for the hot dog, which may not be the best, but are pretty good for American hot dog standard and the price range. The curly fries are awesome. Do keep in mind that you should expect ordering takeout, since there is barely space for dining in.
Went here reading the reviews...definitely the hotdogs are worth a try. Hot, nicely spiced and with condiments...it's a good bite. The papaya juice is also good. They don't have a place to sit and enjoy them, that's the only call out I have.
A nice afternoon mini lunch treat as the hot dogs were tasty and firm to the bite. Toppings were generous and while the sour kraut was a bit too sour for my taste, but the iron relish was my favourite. Combo set at 9.99 + were higher 'priced' than Gray's Papaya (2 hot dogs vs 3 at Gray's), but taste definitely better than the latter.
The papaya drink was sweet but not overly sweet.
Im not a hot dog fanatic but if Anthony Bourdain came here and enjoyed the hot dogs well I should also try to give them a chance.
I got:
1. 2 Franks hot dogs with NYC onion and the other with relish and they were very good, didn’t expect that. The sausage’s good and the onion also has a sweet flavor.
2. The classic papaya juice: Very good. Coming from an Latin America country were papaya juice is like our daily drink I know about how good papaya juices should be. This one had a good sweet milky papaya taste.
There wasn’t a lot of people and the service was quick.
Recommend place for hot dog enthusiasts.
Me and my bf heard about this place from a YouTube video and decided we had to go check it out while we were on vacation in NJ. So we went all the way into the city just to go here and it was totally worth it! The hotdog with onion sauce is soooo good and the papaya juice compliments it perfectly for a wonderful salty-sweet sensation. Very cheap, super delicious. The papaya juice is totally not like how I was imagining. It's 100 times better. I highly recommend this place. Best hot dog I've ever had. I wanna put the onion sauce on literally everything. 100/10
Don’t be fooled by imitations. Papaya King is the original hot dog joint to offer a papaya drink. The hot dogs here are delicious, it has a nice crunch and snap as you bite into the hot dog. The onion sauce gives it added flavors. The sauerkraut is also a good choice. The papaya drink helps wash down the savory flavors.
Corner spot. Get your dog & drink. Stand where Anthony stood & enjoy!
Nice snap with each & every tasty bite. Corn dog is carnival worthy. Curly fries with ketchup to break the monotony. Finish with the papaya drink.
Quick and easy spot for some casual lunch. Heard about the impending demolition and had to visit for the first time to pay tribute. I was pleasantly surprised. I got the jumbo sausage with peppers and onions, curly fries, and a small papaya drink. The sausage was great. Savory and juicy with a soft bun, topped with great roasted peppers and some sweet onions. The curly fries were super hot but super crispy and delicious. I was wary about the papaya drink (as I don’t like papaya in general) but it tasted great; not much of that potent flavor in supermarket papaya. Instead, it offers a creamy and indulgent yet healthy sweet treat. It’s not the smoothest drink but it’s pretty darn good. Only thing is there’s no sitting room and standing room is severely limited. Other than that, it was worth the visit and definitely a must try before this spot meets its impending fate.
