Review Le Rivage - New York City

Darren Z
What a dinner we had at Le Rivage! Everything about this restaurant was of perfection! They had a live performance too which was super good. My friend had the duck (as in the video) and I had the boneless short ribs. Short ribs were super tender and flavorful and I loved the sauce that came with it. Will definitely revisit and try some other dishes!!

Food was excellent; the prix fixe lunch menu is incredibly priced for the quality and portions! The staff was professional and kind. The hostess was so sweet, friendly and attentive. Recommend the Escargots, Moules, Trout Almandine, Frisbee aux Lardons, and French onion soup!

Delicious escargots and I keep wanting to go back to that onion soup burger! Those fries and ketchup were very good too. Service is great and so is the food. This restaurant has been there for ages, which explains why the place seems a little old. It still serves yummy food and I recommend it. They have executive pre-fixed menus.

My husband and I definitely enjoyed this place. The service was superb and servers and staff were very attentive. The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful and just what you'd want for an intimate French restaurant experience. Food was excellent. John had the Beef Bourguignon which he found outstanding. I have the Coq Au Vin which was very good. I apologize that I forgot to take pictures of the food. Our only disappointment was in the size of the deserts (Cheesecake and bread pudding). They were tasty, but VERY small. However, that really didn't diminish our great experience.

Hidden gem near the theatre district! The food, service, and entertainment were all exceptional. The more casual vibe was nice and allowed us to relax and truly enjoy our tuning experience. We cannot wait to return and try more off the menu. The French onion soup burger is no joke - I highly recommend it! Frog legs were delicious as well.

My friends and I have so come to love Le Rivage!!! The food is delicious, the staff so lovely and warm. We play jazz here and it’s our favorite atmosphere to come to! And decorated so beautifully for Christmas, you must stop in!

Came here after watching a musical and had a fantastic time! The Frog legs and French Onion Soup were to die for and we had an amazing atmosphere with live music playing. The waiting staff was great and our waiter (cannot remember his name but we talked about Moulin Rouge) was fantastic! Highly recommend.

Amazing restaurant. We didn't even have reservations and were served with the utmost attention and care. The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was so cozy and nice and there was live music when we were there. There were celebrities sitting at the table next to us. Again we simply walked in and were seated at arguably the best table in the place, right in front of the band. The potatoes and leek soup was the most delicious soup I ever had, and my steak-frites was cooked perfectly and served with an amazing sauce. The chocolate mousse was excellent as well. This was all at a very reasonable price as well. This will be a required stop every time I am in the city. The whole experience was perfection. The waiter was patient and highly professional in giving recommendations and attention to our needs.

Honestly, honestly. Good service firstly, because my husband and I went to see a show on broadway after the dinner so the staff made sure our food was finished quicker so we’d make our show. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and welcoming I must say. Now the food was okay. I’ve tried French cuisine before— exquisite. However this restaurant was very mediocre from the appetizer to the dessert. I wasn’t sure if it was this way because they were rushing on our meal, but I do feel if the food would taste this way the pricing should be cheaper. Other than that, had a fine time. P.S. if you order from there, do not order the rainbow trout. It’s really not good. I don’t know why they recommended it to me.

I was in Midtown for a show, and chose La Rivage based on their positive Google reviews. It did not disappoint. We were welcomed by the smiling hostess, and were immediately felt warmed up by the atmosphere here, on a very cold night. There was a piano player, playing a variety of genres at just the right volume, which just added to the vibe of the place. Their Matire’D Tommy was such a great host, and gave us some recommendations on food and wine. We had some funny conversations with him throughout the night, and pretty much felt like we were old friends by the time our meal was over ha ha. I had the frisée and lardons salad to start, as this is one of my favorite French starters, and it was spot on. Then I had a trout dish, after having seen the photo of the dish on a screen behind the bar, and it looked so appetizing. I give this dish a 10 out of 10. The breading on the fish was super light, almost nonexistent, and the fish was very fresh and flaky. It was served over a bed of perfectly whipped mashed potatoes, and nice haricot vert. There were toasted almonds on top of the fish which complemented the dish in both flavor and texture. There were so many other things on the menu that I wanted to try, like the French onion soup burger, but I would go back just for this trout as well. You could tell that they really spent time perfecting everything here over the last 30-something years in business. Long story short, I don’t think you’ll find a better choice in the neighborhood for this perfect combination of great food, warm atmosphere, and stellar service.

As you enter the restaurant you are Greeted by the owner and escorted to your table. The choices on the menu are amazing, from the appetizers, to the main course and finally the delicious desserts! The waiters and the rest of the staff are always on point, checking to make sure everything is ok and refilling your water etc. In other words, we had the most amazing meal! We had the French Onion Soup burger, and it was the most amazing burger that we ever had!! I highly recommend this restaurant for its service, the food and the atmosphere!!!

This was a surprise to us...the food is excellent and we were nervous as we came at 630pm reservation and we had an 8pm show to catch. It was packed but the Matr'd Tibow was so accomodating and efficient, he got our orders, ahead from the waiting line and voila! We got our table on time to enjoy every bite of our duck a d lamb chop entrees. The lobster bisque and mussels did not disappoint either. We would highly recommend this place to our friends and family looking for,an excellent resto in Restsurant Row in Times square! Thank you to Tibow and all wait staff and Merry xmas to you all!

We’ve been here a couple of times. The last visit made us a little sad, as it wasn’t nearly as good as our previous visit. Caesar salad was below average (I’m a Caesar salad aficionado). The Chicken cordon bleu was average at best (chicken was over-cooked and dry, a very thin slice of ham that looked like it came out of a package, though the mushrooms and sauce were good and the side of carrots had wonderful flavor). Our lovely server with a charming French accent was delightful as were her handsome helpers. We so want to see this charming spot get back to its former glory.

I absolutely love this restaurant! The food is amazing .. as always, and the entire staff is so very friendly! I was here with my family yesterday when France won the World Cup! It was so awesome and the owner served every customer a delicious complementary drink! Congratulations! Viva la France! 🏆 🇫🇷⚜️

The service was great. We both ordered the special filet bits with pepper corn cream sauce. Disappointed that the chef would place so much sauce that we couldn't enjoy the meat. However the restaurant had a great ambiance with great staff. The escargot is highly recommended and the prix fixed price menu can not be beat.

Top notch lunch dessert I would rate as the best mousse I ever had. Atmosphere very quaint and staff is friendly and welcoming.

We have walked past this restaurant (and the others on RR several times over the years) and decided to give this place a try. What a nice surprise, I prefer smaller places to the larger restaurants. I had never gone to a French restaurant before (my first name is Claude, go figure). I knew about 10 words in French which I was able to use! The waiter was nice, the food was excellent. I immediately signed up for the mailing list. We had been going to the same Italian restaurant on 9th for years, it was time for a change, this was a most welcome change!

I went with my mom after seeing Hamilton yesterday. The food was delicious. We had the pre fixe meal-appetizers the frisee salad, beet salad, pork chop and the duck. It was so good. For dessert we had the peach tarte and the peach melba. The peach melba tasted like a linzer torte. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Great place! The staff and decor made me feel like I was in a rustic bistro in France. Service was great, staff were friendly and attentive. Went with my husband for a romantic date night and Le Rivage did not disappoint! The boeuf bourguignon was AMAZING! My husband had the salmon and he loved it as well. We will definitely be back!!!

My wife and I dined there last night for the first time. The restaurant is warm and inviting. The waitstaff was extremely polite and attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely return there again and again. I highly recommend the wonderful Restaurant and I’ll certainly spread the good word to my friends about it.
