Friendly!
Really friendly atmosphere and laid back, didn’t rush us at all. Three couples. Nice vibe. Nice enough food but overall quite a steep bill for what it is. Still a decent dining experience though.
Yum yum yum. We had one of the best breakfast in New York City at this restaurant. I had the pancakes (I'm obsessed with pancakes) and they were some of the tastiest I've ever had! It also helped that we were sitting right across from Claire Danes! What an experience.
Loved the Madame Freda sandwich! I received the best treatment by the staff as a wheelchair user that I have received in a long time. Read the complete review on my blog.
Being an Aussie, I love brunch so am always up for trying something new. For me (Mirko), this came in the form of Jack's Wife Freda (JWF) located in the West Village. On today's menu were the Green Shakshuka, the Croque Monsieur, Duck Bacon and Haloumi. Our brunch for the day. I opted for the Croque Monsieur with an egg and duck bacon. The egg on top was cooked well with a runny yolk that oozed into the bread. The cheese was melted through the dish and the duck bacon was nice and crispy. I had not had duck bacon before, but would definitely have it again.
Jack's wife Freda was a place that was under my radar while planning my visit to NYC and it was no mistake to choose it. The environment is very relaxed and it had a pretty cool soundtrack during our lunch. We started with the breakfast part - eggs Benny, absolutely amazing!!! - and with the delicious lemonade.
For lunch I asked for the Portuguese prego, and I must confess that although I was very curious about how it could be portrayed, I was not disappointed. In fact, I was even surprised because it had really much more meat than those back home. The fries were amazing as well.
We finished with a flourless chocolate cake that was a very pleasant surprise. I strongly recommend this place for a late breakfast/brunch or even a late lunch.
Very sweet little restaurant! I think more appropriate for breakfast than lunch, but great if you like eggs past 12! The halloumi was outrageously delicious and I'd go back just for that!!
An easygoing breakfast spot that missed the mark with food that was just a bit too bland. I was warned about the green shakshuka being spicy, it wasn’t at all. Waffles were good, nothing special. Service was attentive and the place itself is great for a leisurely breakfast but I wouldn’t rush to return.
enchanting, mouth-watering, homey…
This establishment is an exuberant nook amongst a bustling city. Perhaps some of the warmest and most genuine service I have ever received. Every single person who worked at Jack’s Wife Freda had a smile on their face and a genuine interest to talk.
The food was delicious, I loved the Green Shakshuka.
I can’t wait to come again 🤍

Me and my friends ordered 3 items (Mediterranean Breakfast, Green Shakshuka, and Maya’s Breakfast Bowl). All dishes were tasty and ‘healthy’. Really good food quality and flavours. Also ordered a couple of drinks/cocktails which were decent too.
Service was quite decent and the wait time wasn’t that long in-spite of a pretty decent queue when we arrived. But it may make sense to make a reservation if you can as it seems like the place can get quite busy on weekends.
All in all a great place for breakfast/brunch/lunch if you’re in the area.
It is a super cool, well sought after place. Simple decor, very friendly service. It is an all day cafe with breakfast options as well as salads, sandwiches and entrees. A variety of cocktails and 3 desert options. Potions size is small. Not in an American benchmark but just in general. Thankfully they didn’t charge for an additional piece of bread I asked for (the breakfast came with one). I would come back, with the right expectations.
Super good food, great overall staff! Everyone is so nice! Christian was our serve & have us good recommendations & took care of us! Thank you!! A NYC favorite & a must for anyone visiting NYC or just for locals!
Great for people watching too!
It is always a good time at Jack’s wife Freda. Atmosphere is great and food is delicious. We went around 3 o’clock on a Sunday and it was nice and quiet.
The food and drink here were sooooo delicious! Staff was super friendly and the ambiance was perfect! Have since been to another location and can vouch for that one too. Highly recommend!
Great place for mediterranean food. Would recommend trying the prego roll with fries and peri peri chicken. The chicken portion is big and comes with a dice salad. It is good enough for sharing between two people. For dessert consider getting a slice of the cheese cake. It is quit dense and isn't too sweet.
The place wasn't full when we went for dinner, but it may still be a good idea to get a reservation. They also have an all-day breakfast menu.
Great brunch option for mediterranean food lovers and more! Came on a saturday at noon so it was very busy but we were seated right away with a reservation. Loved the skirt steak sandwich and the mediterranean breakfast. Service was great. Recommend pairing it with ice cream at Venchi afterwards. Would come again!
The most precious little breakfast spot, cozy decor, friendly service. And above all, fantastic food!! This tomatillo shakshuka was full of citrusy goodness.
