the quintessential NYC greasy spoon—without the actual “greasy”! tons of character, generous portions, great food, and friendly staff/owner. my absolute fav’ breakfast joint since 1991! i remember the old French guy who owned(?)/worked the grill when the current owner was a waitress. this is THE PLACE for early morning breakfast! get there early cuz it crowds up quickly by 10 - 11 am.
Fantastic place
When we visited NYC IN 2013 we had breakfast here every day
After ordering coffee and cornflakes on consecutive days the waiter appeared by our table with them on arrival
The French toast is excellent too
Highly recommend
We try to eat here each time we visit NYC. What a very local experience. excellent prices and great quality. The staff works tirelessly to serve up quick and tasty food. The french toast is amazing!!!!
**cash only** Just about .... **cash only**
Just about anything on the menu that you'd like. Had the burger w/ bacon and it fit the bill. More than reasonable price for WV, but cash only. If you're lucky, you meal will be the envy of walkers by, grab a seat outside!
A Good Ole Traditional Diner. Everything you would expect from a traditional little diner. You can sit at the bar in front of the grill or at a wobbly table and choose from traditional diner fare: eggs, bacon, omelets, etc. If you're looking for a good ole traditional diner, this is your place. One bonus item you'll find at La Bonbonniere that you won't find at most diners: a side of fried plantains. SO good. Get it!
Love La Bonbonniere. We were in NY this past month on our family vacation. We found La Bonbonniere as we walked the area. We loved it! The food was great as well as the service.
They have the best french toast! We also tried their pancakes, overeasy eggs, bacon, and toast. Great coffee, too! We will be back!
The BEST bacon in NYC! Small & friendly! Perfect breakfast spot. Eat the challah French toast & bacon, it does not disappoint!
Hudson Street hides a gem, an amazingly cheap, casual, cash-only gem. La Bonbonniere is the size of my bedroom, a long narrow strip of dressed-down Americana...
This diner first came to my attention back in the late nineties when its picture was featured on an EP by Mike Viola and the Candy Butchers entitled "Live at La Bonbonniere", the
I am a native New Yorker who has walked past this place a thousand times, but never eaten there, for a variety of reasons. No time, no money, too crowded.
Today, the stars alligned, and I could and did. While I was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit this famous but affordable establishment, I wish to pass on the message that they should update the menu prices on their Google listing. I took pictures of the current menu and a couple of snapshots of the interior. Obviously, the outdoor dining area, the shed on the street taking up valuable potential parking spaces, is a pandemic era addition.
Yes, the interior of the original building is really that small, even smaller but slightly wider than the former Moonstruck Diner. (The real Moonstruck Diner was not big enough to do a song-and-dance movie sequence in, the wait staff had to turn sideways to walk between the cafe tables and the counter, and it was never as clean as the movie set.)
Don't get me wrong, I have no complaints about the food or the service at La Bonbonniere, it is what it is, but please inform the public about the current prices on your profile.
This place is great and I can't wait to come back regularly!
Pancakes, French toast, olmlettes, can't go wrong! Stopped in for a hearty breakfast and it met and exceeded our expectations.
Will come back soon for some lunch specials!
I visited here because of The Marvelous Maisel. It was a filming location for a cafe in the show. The food was SO GOOD. I got their “famous” French toast and I highly recommend. We got coffee in the iconic NY blue coffee cups. It is a very NYC cafe. Small, old, quick and quiet service and I loved it even more for these reasons. It is cash only so take cash!
This is THE place for a no frills, solid breakfast in the village (at really great prices). Get there nice and early to avoid the weekend crowd and make sure to bring cash (the dozens of "cash only" signs on the wall will be sure to remind you).
Try the famous French toast, it's heavy but lives up to the name. The corned beef hash and eggs are nothing fancy, but they taste great. They serve coffee in these blue cups that you usually get at a corner bagel/coffee stand I'm the city on your way to work. I live in NYC, but the whole experience made me nostalgic.
Great breakfast spot for quick, simple but tasty food! Great portion sizes too and very filling.
You can customise orders easily and they were happy to make changes.
Great vibes and a nice change from all the flashy places around town. Would highly recommend a visit.
Great fast filling breakfast!!
Been here 3 times on my trip and it keeps on getting better!! I've had the eggs with ham, corned beef hash, and Canadian bacon. The Canadian bacon in the corned beef hash were/are my favorites!!!! If I had more time I'd try the pancakes 🥞... tomorrow?!?!?!
It ain’t fancy, but it’s tasty. The bacon, eggs and pancakes were just right. The service was quick. The prices were a bargain for New York.
Great place for the traditional New York breakfast, delicious sausages. Delicious bagels. Really fast service. Had a great time.
Only in New York would people wait an hour in the freezing cold to sit in a wooden structure and enjoy coffee in paper cups with servers that barely acknowledge you. But alas, we keep coming back, because the price is right and the food is delicious.
Favorites are the two eggs over easy with sausage ($7.50) and western omelette ($8.50), both served with home fries and toast. The blueberry pancakes are soo good too – they have a soft and fluffy interior with perfectly crisp edges. The restaurant is cash only and there are ~15 signs to remind you so (along with an ATM available). If you are looking for no-frills tasty diner breakfast food in a sea of frou-frou West Village brunch joints, La Bonbonniere is your best bet!
Everything was SO yummy. And the staff was really friendly (-: the banana pancakes were the highlight for me. this was definitely a feel good meal. didn’t wait in line too long for a seat on a busy Sunday morning too.
