The Breakers Restaurant

We love most of the restaurants in New Smyrna Beach, but Breakers is our “go to” choice. The building sits, literally, right on the beach, and the view is awesome! On a nice day the windows are opened and the ocean breezes permeate the air. One can be at the bar, the beachside interior porch, or at a table and there is no question that you are at the beach. The food is always fresh, hot and delicious, and the drinks are consistently made so you know what you’re going to get every time. The prices are reasonable, and we simply love this place. The real gem of Breakers is the service. Manager, Jeff Buckingham, runs a tight ship and is not afraid to get his own hands into the mix when it gets really busy. The staff is well-trained and coordinate with one another to ensure prompt, sincerely friendly service. It is simply the best service we’ve ever experienced for a casual, unassuming place. I’d like to give a shout out to the entire team: Managers Jeff, Terry, Pat, Brandon, Mike H, and the rest of the team: Chris, Gina, Sandy, Dory, Amy, Renee, Faedra, Stephanie, Tasha, Bethany, Cindy, Meredith, Chelsea, Shannon, Jeremy, Brian P, Amber, Courtney, Kayt, Elliott, Caroline, Cy, Lynsey, Bailey, Grace and Mark. The Breakers was recommended by friends, so we were excited to go. You need to know what you will experience though. This is an oceanfront very casual kind of run down restaurant. The food was not bad, but we ordered burgers and they were raw inside, not rare, totally raw inside. The waiter was excellent and quickly replaced the burgers. The burgers were good and unique, but I'm not sure it's worth the money. The sides were decent, but small. The potato salad was interesting and not my preference. The fries were good. The service was excellent (Jeremy). The Breakers is not bad, but not great. Mainly know what you are going into...great views, well worn building, average to above average food, but very beachy and New Smyrnaish.

This place has the greatest view in the county, and therefore the food doesn't have to be good. But the food is consistently great! Just looks like it's a tourist attraction, but the locals keep coming back! This place has a conscience and they keep serving outstanding dishes. Drinks are ok. Need improvement to keep locals coming back.

I give this place about a four. Not because of any one particular thing but just because it's almost up to par with the food and the drinks. Honestly I think there's a better burger at the Beacon right down the road. I don't know what they think is so special about this the meats good but the rest of the thing is just like your regular burger that you find anywhere. Nothing special here no special ingredients, no special inventive Burgers, nothing off the charts amazing, just the regular burger. My girlfriend and I shared a jalapeno burger I was honestly expecting some nice grilled jalapenos and onions or something but all we got was raw jalapeno chunks sliced and a huge chunk of onion. Honestly I would have liked to invite the chef out to eat that whole thing right in front of me and tell me what he thinks of it? We had to pull it apart and rebuild it. Not exactly what I'm going for when I'm going for a burger joint that does it right! On top of that somehow they got our Bloody Mary all wrong it tasted terrible. I don't know if it was the mix or the bottom shelf vodka but we ended up chucking that thing and asking for something different. The views are awesome honestly they can't be beat sitting on the side of the ocean feeling the breeze. I wouldn't come back here for the food maybe just a Guinness or something. I'm sorry but I feel there's a lot better burgers in town than this I don't know how they won that award for best burger in central FL!? I'm not believing it...
