El Gato in Lakeview has been my go to for years. It does, however, have some inconsistencies. The queso is wonderful, and I like the salsa. I generally eat the fajitas, or the cheese enchiladas which are usually very good. I have tried some entree items ( pork chop special, fish) and did not like them at all. The other day I strayed from the fajitas and ordered the single shrimp taco and a cheese enchilada. The taco was terrible with undercooked shrimp and overcooked flour tortilla. My biggest complaint and deterrent eating there is how untidy the restaurant gets. Crushed tortilla chips all over the floor and generally a mess which never gets swept up during service. Very unappetizing!

Fajitas were absolutely delicious. The steak was melt in your mouth delicious and the shrimp were huge. Seasonings and flavors were superb...Margaritas were exceptional. Service was great from everyone we encountered. Definitely highly recommend. A little pricey, but worth every dollar, so I don't recommend for younger children.

Food was so good! Very seasoned. The skirt steak was wonderful and my partners salmon was to die for. Our honey tangerine margaritas where SO good and our waitress and host had wonderful service. The restaurant was clean. Which I immediately noticed. And no bar/beer smell that can sometimes harbor in Mexican restaurants. Exentisive tequila lists WITH descriptions and notes of taste for every liquor which is helpful when pair drinks. House salsa was good. Great experience.

It's probably the best Mexican food in Lakeview. It was a pleasant evening to sit outside on the patio. Thankfully, the summer heat is behind us (hopefully), and we can all enjoy patios like this. I would recommend this place.

I had the fajita-style enchilada and it was very fresh and tasty. I would get that again. It was very noisy inside so our small party had a tough time hearing each other without shouting. The service was a bit on the slow side. It seemed that our waitress was more interested in helping the large party at the next table. The food was good enough to make me overlook the service/atmosphere issues and give another try.

We go for drinks, stay for the food. If they have brisket, order it as a taco, quesadilla or burrito. The tables are spaced well apart so you don't feel crowded and you are not rushed . All the basics are very good, beans rice chips and salsa are done in house and it shows. This is our 4th trip there and we can't wait for cooler weather so we can use the outdoor seating!

I really wanted to get the steak and shrimp fajitas but it was was a miscommunication staff needs to be better trained on the menu. Otherwise food is delicious well seasoned. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Very cute place with good food. This is not the typical Mexican food. For example, the Mexican rice is riddled with corn and green peas and is flavorful and is part of most entrees, as is the beans. The latter not just refried beans, but hole beans in there natural creamy sauce. I ordered the tri enchiladas: 2 chicken one cheese and all of them were very tasty. The red salsa sauce, however, that accompanies the dish in a separate metal gravy boat was a bit too sweet. The house salsa and chips were very good; chips nice and crispy and fresh. I also ordered the El Gato soup, which is a take on charro soup, was chucked full of tender pulled pork and was very hearty- actually too filling.
