Review Guy's Po-boys - New Orleans

David Chang
My first fried shimp po boy in New Orleans. This po boy is loaded to the brim with scrumptious, flavorful, fresh, fried shrimp with all the expected dressings. Can't beat it!!!

I came to Guy’s on the recommendation of Bat Man (Nola locals know who that is). His recommendation was spot on, one of the best poboy I’ve had 10/10. Service was great. When I came in the owner was there. He was very hospitable. He even catered to a customers off the menu request. Overall great experience.

A staple of the New Orleans community - Some of the best Po-Boy sandwiches in the city! This neighborhood eatery always delivers. Grab a bite, then walk down Magazine Street and check out the antique shops and boutiques!

We stopped by for lunch and shared a blackened catfish Po Boy - we really enjoyed it.. very strong flavor.. one of the better Po Boys we had in New Orleans..! Also this restaurant's Google Maps description states this is a cash only establishment but they accept tap n pay, too.

One of the best po boys I have ever had. This place has a great vibe and super friendly staff.

Grilled shrimp poboy was incredibly delicious. The shrimp were plentiful and had the most amazing flavor and spice. Service was friendly, get there early to avoid the crowd but honestly worth the wait.

This place in a nice part of town, located on the corner so very easy to see. I found out about this place on one of my favorite YouTube shows and decided to give them a try. This was the first time I had a Poboy so I didn’t know what to expect. I will say that it was a very good sandwich. I can tell they used quality ingredients as well. I got the cat fish and the shrimp Poboy! The shrimp Poboy was more flavorful and distinguishing from the other. Next time I will add more sauce or mayo to it so it’s not as dry but out side of that this was a very good put together sandwich. The staff was very nice and positive. The establishment was clean and upkept well. Would definitely recommend as a first timer.

One of the best po boys I have ever eaten. Not dry like most places but very moist. The seafood is not breaded but grilled. So much more flavor with the alligator and the catfish and the shrimp. Video review coming to the Jack on the go show on YouTube

Excellent service and fantastic food! The blackened fish sandwich was mouthwatering! The perfect blend of spices, which gave it a kick, not not too much of a kick. My wife really enjoyed the shrimp sandwich and said it was just perfect. She had the sandwich in its full glory with everything dressed. Based on her reaction and my food, which was just blackened fish and lettuce, they are NOT covering up the flavor of the 'meat' with condiments. The two people working there were extremely friendly and even struck up casual conversations with everyone. Limited hours, but definitely worth it. Great place for a po boy and I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong with any sandwich!

First time in! The sandwiches and and gumbo were delicious. Simple but full of flavors. The owners are very personable and welcoming. Definitely a place to visit if your in town.

Yummm! Came here for my first stop straight from the airport, luggage and all in tow. I ordered the roast beef 6 inch and my guy got the fried shrimp. First of all, largest SMALL sandwich I’ve ever had. We could have shared one and been totally full. Prices are reasonable. Located in a less busy area. Great service! The guys there are super nice.

The best! Everyone is so nice. Easy to find. I had the fried Catfish and it was so good. It's cool to see the chef back there hustling, moving at lightning speed. Even though he was moving quick, there was a little bit of a wait... like 25min. Totally worth it. Highly recommend.

Talk about friendly place. This is a cool location and the original art inside is awesome. It is cash only but well worth what it costs. The green onion and crawfish sausage po-boy I had exceeded expectations. We jawed a bit about random things while they made em up too. Will be back.

Wanted to try someplace new. A coffee shop dude recommended this place. Was pretty good and people very friendly but.... I had grilled fish and grilled shrimp Poboy. Never had grilled. I needed the CRUNCH. And bread was good but soft. Not sure if they use Leidenheimers like most in New Orleans do. They gave a ice cream recommendation to try something 504 so we are off to there next for dessert. The owner has owned this place for 25 years and is a budding artist. Here are some of his pieces. Between $600-$800, they are good values. Wish I had room on my walls.

Had a shrimp po boy and a sweet tea!! Both were delicious!! Service is extremely friendly and the lady is always smiling! Highly recommend!

The fried shrimp po-boy is bangin, best one I had in my 5 days in the city. The small was still a ton of food. Came in near closing (as did what seemed like a bachelor party of loud New York bros) and wasn’t sure if they’d have enough bread but it worked out and Marvin jogged out our sandwiches singing the Rocky theme since we came from Philly. Nothing overrated or overpriced about this place, just a fantastic sandwich made by a nice guy for a fair price. Highly recommend!

Hands down the best Shrimp Po boy in NOLA. The. Best. Guy never disappoints, he and all of his team are friendly, funny, and genuine. It’s always our first stop when we come in town and our last stop on the way out!

Amazing! Loved our shrimp po boy! Cheese fries were nothing to write home about. Staff was super friendly and we loved this quaint spot!

Guy's Poboys has been my favorite Po'boys place in New Orleans since discovering it when my sister lived just down the street circa 1993! The owner, Marvin, has always graciously and generously prepared the grilled shrimp po'boy with his homemade tartar sauce for me even before it ever appeared on the menu! Everything there is delicious and worth the wait! A must "visit" while in Uptown.
Gabriela Berthold
wasn't as good as everybody told us, got the roast beef and it had no flavor, the "bomb" po boy was whatever, this place is not for me
Carla Cyprien
I always get the fried shrimp on bun. You can tell the shrimp are fried to order and not sitting under a heat lamp

We stumbled into Guy's by accident. We were just walking around, enjoying our day. It was mid-afternoon and we were hungry. Guy's was open and we walked in. Ordered my first shrimp po-boy and was not disappointed. Marvin was fun and friendly and gave everyone samples of his jambalaya - he was trying a new recipe. Had a delicious late lunch and a marvelous time eating it there. I have never felt so welcomed in a strange city. Guy's is now on my must-do list when in NOLA!

The bomb po boy is the best po boy I've ever had. Staff is very hospitable. My new favorite po boy place.

Fabulous roast beef poor-boys, well worth the long line wait!
Pamela J. Christy
Great food and the staff were so friendly and helpful with our order. There were four of us each getting something different, and each of us happy with our choices. Huge portions!

Absolutely the best poboys anywhere! And great staff too!!

I love Guy's Po-boys. I grew up in NOLA but live in Dallas now. Guy's is a must stop every time I come in town. Huge portions for reasonable price.
Viola Belonga-Williams
Everything is (FRESH)......, and A L W A Y S............ DELICIOUS!!!! Customer Services is PLEASANT!!!!!!

Had lunch there last week on our trip to NOLA. Unbelievable! You can always judge how good a Poboy is by how many napkins that you need!

Guy makes a mean po'boy!

My FAVORITE place for a PO-boy! Everything is AMAZING but “The Bomb” is the best! Grilled shrimp, grilled catfish, cheese and special sauce...WHEW, making me hungry!
JJ
This & Parkway are my two favorites for PoBoys in NOLA. So if you're in the uptown area, this is the "go-to" place for PoBoys as far as I'm concerned.
RalphMaxwell
The best roast beef ( sloppy) poor boy in town!!! Perfect!!
The gravy cheese fries are to die for- cheesy & covered in debris gravy( almost a meal in itself.
Amychain68
Best Po Boy Ever. Just ate here for the first time & am so glad I did. I had the roast beef po boy and it was the best !! Also a side order of dirty rice which was amazing as well. The place is very small but don't let that fool you because the food is big:);) I give it an A+
JEL
An All Time Great. The experience is always good, and the grilled shrimp is unbeatable. The roast beef po-boy is also one of the most flavorful for for the variety that has slices as well as debris. These are some of the most carefully made po-boys I've ever found.
Jkessler
Yum!. Lots of po-boy places around town. Not only is this close to me, but it's consistently great.

Great food, great service. Stopped in while in town at straight-up noon. It was busy, but the service was very polite and quick enough.

Shrimp poboy was great. Roast beef poboy was great. Fries were perfect.

Seek this place out. Go eat!

Go now. go right now.. Good god this place has excellent poboys. i just wish they were open later. and in my neighborhood...and everything was free...and they carried you on piggyback while in the restaurant...and they liked YOU on facebook. but in the absence of those things, it's still wicked good.

Best Roast Beef PoBoy!!!. My husband and I are new to the area. We have tried several restaurants in hopes of finding one that serves up a delicious roast beef poboy. Well now can say our search is over. Yesterday 2/21/2014,after finding Guy's on the internet and reading reviews we decided to give a try. OMG!!!! That was the best roast beef poboy had in a long time. Good portion of meat, dressed perfect lettuce and tomato with lots of gravy. (have lots of napkins handy. :) DELICIOUS!!!!
Try Guy's will be happy you did. We surely are,for this will be our choice when craving for roast beef poboy.
By the way we also got a regular shrimp poboy. Great!! loaded with shrimp so so good. LOVED IT!!!!
Thanks GUY will be back soon.

Great Guy's Po-Boys and Service!. I emailed this into Smiley Anders, The Advocate: Today at 10:33 AM Smiley, Yesterday when I was in N'Awlins, I got to check out a poboy shop that Jamie, a colleague, had told me about: Guy's PoBoys ( http://menuorleans.com/guys-po-boy) -on Magazine between Bellecastle and Valmont - close to my old high school (De La Salle). While I was unable to get my beloved fried oyster poboy there, I decided to try one of their special's for the day: alligator poboy, which was only $ 9.95 for large (foot long)! When I went to pay by credit, I was told that they only take cash there. Since I only had two $ 5's and a little change, I told the check out guy that I'd downsize to the 1/2 foot for about $ 7.50, at which he took a $ 1 dollar bill out of the tip jar and said, "No problem, us 'Guys's' got you covered!" He even gave me the change, which I, of course, put into the tip jar! What a delight it was later to chomp into that fully dressed alligator sausage poboy at an Audubon Park shelter adjacent to the lagoon nearby - right off of St. Charles Avenue and in view of my old alma mater, Loyola University, and getting to enjoy the view and sounds of some streetcars that strolled by! I'm definitedly gonna send a belated real tip to that GUY at Guy's and want to spread the word out to others about another great "Naturally N'Alins" place, as the late and beloved Frank Davis always noted; may he rest in peace - I'm sure God has him in charge of communication, cooking, fishing, etc! I am lucky to live across the street from this restaurant. They have great po-boys that are overstuffed and way to much to eat in one sitting. I get the small po-boys for lunch and always have enough left over for dinner that night. The daily lunches are also awesome and large portions. Just remember that it's cash only!
Brian
Great PoBoys. Cash only and very limited seating but so good. The Sausage and Gator PoBoy was outstanding
Bryce
Great lunch. Guy's Po-Boys represents the New Orleans po-boy style. A hole in the wall joint with good simple sandwiches. Great roast beef, great shrimp.

Best in the area. Best Poboys in uptown. CASH ONLY!!!!! They really pack on the shrimp on their shrimp poboy. Order the small as I don't see a big difference between the small/large.

Yummy!. Had lunch there on Saturday. Had a great grilled shrimp po boy. Cash only.
ImKindaHungry
So glad we stopped into this place! I ordered the friend shrimp po boy while my husband had the roast beef and both were amazing. We will definitely be going back. I think this might be our new favorite po boy shop!
Donna_nguyen_2000
Great hole in the wall for po boys. This place has a real funky feel - from the sign outside to the tables and chairs inside. Cash only, u order @ the counter, give them your name and stand around and wait. Typically, it takes about 20 minutes to get the food. No oysters po boys but the rest is as good as po boys come. The fried shrimps are perfectly seasoned, sweet and crunchy. Order them 'dressed' - mayo, lettuce, tomatoes. Perfect, airy loaf just makes the combo perfect. An odd option is them grilled pork. Thin pork chop, lightly seasoned and flash grilled. Same 'dressed' and you would go insane when u bite into that piece of heaven! Wow !!!!
GeauxSouthernBelle
Great poboys! Would recommend the fried shrimp. Cash only!!

Best uptown po-boy. The roast beef is awesome. Shrimp awesome too. The daily specials are not as good as the po-boy's but are still pretty good.
NinaMcDaniel
Slow and crowded- and worth it. Just be patient.

Good PoBoys, order early. Great roast beef poboy. Recommend calling in your order and going in to pick up. Very slow service in person when they are busy.
Urbanspoon Gimp
The go to for Uptown poboys. Not a lot of noise for Guy's but they make the best roast beef poboy on that side of St. Charles. It's reasonably priced but I think they only take cash.
Kate
One of my favorite roast beef po boys in town. Very messy with lots of flavor. One sandwich split between two people is just right.

Unsatisfied. I've been to Guy's several times, but this time was really unsatisfying. I got the Friday lunch special to go, the fried fish and shrimp plate. The fish and shrimp were okay. Box jambalaya would have been better. The potato salad was not good, it tasted like mush with some celery. I've eaten their hot and smoked sausage and french fry po-boys, which are all amazing, but this fried seafood plate was a let down. Maybe it's better if you eat it there?

Popular with locals of all ages. Basic but satisfying with the salad being a good alternative to the heavier fare.

Great little po boy joint. Great Sandwiches since 1980. Cash only. Phenominal pork chop po boy. I get mine undressed with grilled onions. Lunch only. Closed Sun. Slow. Cool Uptown spot.

Divine Catfish Poboy. Every time I go, which appears to be every other week, I say, "I'm going to get something other than the catfish poboy," but never pass it up. Fresh fish, fresh bread, ample dressings, friendly staff, quick prep, within walking distance from home makes for a perfect meal.
BackBayouVintage
There are tons of spots around the city that serve up a great fried shrimp po boy, but Guy’s is consistently delicious, and very affordably priced for the quality ingredients used.
BackBayouVintage
Guy's really does make a phenomenal shrimp po boy. You couldn't feed an army with it like the one above, but it can make one lucky person VERY VERY happy.
