Review Nola Poboys - New Orleans

Amy Jellison
NOLA Poboys was a great place to grab a meal off of Bourbon Street. They had a vast menu of local food choices. The staff was friendly and courteous. Our food quickly arrived from the kitchen. The portions are plentiful. We enjoyed crawfish pie, red beans and rice, fried chicken, and a muffaletta. All of our choices were delicious. Cold sodas are available. Great local food staples.

Great food, great service, and great atmosphere! Our server Sophie was amazing! She made great recommendations and even surprised us with bread pudding. It was divine. We had a great experience enjoying some classic New Orleans cuisine.

Great place to eat. They have a wide variety on their menu. The staff is nice and made great recommendations. The food was delicious and my order was made correctly. The atmosphere and decor is amusing. The dining area in the back looks like an eye spy game. Very fun. The wait wasn't long. Highly recommend coming here for great food and even greater service. Prices are good too.

The shrimp poboy was all around delicious. It had the right amount of mayo, the bread was toasty but not burnt, and the shrimp was fried to perfection. The fries were also delicious, and the staff was exceptional. 10/10!!

The Po' boy, akin to Philadelphia's famous Philly Cheesesteak, stands as one of New Orleans' iconic dishes. After reading rave reviews about this place, my girlfriend and I decided to try it out. The cashier greeted us warmly, and the prices were quite reasonable. We opted for two seafood-based Po' boys – the catfish and the soft shell crab. Each Po' boy featured a light mayo spread, generous iceberg lettuce, and slices of tomatoes and pickles. The catfish had a satisfyingly thick batter, and while I enjoyed it, the lightly battered and crisply fried soft shell crab became my favorite. Both sandwiches struck a perfect balance of saltiness, texture, and flavor, complemented by the soft French bread. Although optional, a few drops of Louisiana hot sauce can be added for those seeking an extra kick. For those in search of an affordable spot offering exceptional food, I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

This is definitely a place to hit up when in French Quarter. The food is SOOO good and the staff and service are really great. I recommended this place to other colleagues visiting NOLA for a conference and they also visited here more than once. I will definitely be coming back on my next NOLA visit. Had Debris Fries, Seafood Gumbo, and fried okra. Also had the seafood bisque, but forgot to take a picture. Would order these again during my next visit. Enjoy!

We ordered some food to go. We had a seafood gumbo, muffuletta sandwich, shrimp poboy and a brownie. All very good. I would definitely go back. I think I liked the brownie the best.

We got a oyster poboy to share. Prices are on the higher side but it is on Bourbon Street. It was loaded with oysters and really good. Service was quick too. Inside is as you would expect...cool and funky. Great place to stop.

10/10 recommend for great poboys. We came here the first night of our 6 day vacation and ended up back here 3 times because it was so good! The people are friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. If you’re looking for a great real deal poboy this is the place!!!

Classic Bourbon St dive. ♥️ There’s something cool to look at everywhere you turn. Don’t forget there’s seating in the back. The line moves really fast so don’t worry about that. It’s worth the wait. We had the catfish Po’boy and the shrimp Po’boy. The french fries were fresh and crunchy. Now when they say spicy, they mean spicy. I’ll be back.

It's a place you go for primarily the experience, especially if you're only in the city for a couple days. The fried shrimp in the poboy was great, tastey with a kick but the bread was soo dry and unsatisfying. I ended up just eating the shrimp out of it and leaving the bread.

Stopped here during the Dr. Gumbo food tour and sampled the catfish po boy, muffuletta, and boudin balls. Came back and got the shrimp po boy. Great food.

First I want to say, the shorthaired blonde girl that was at the register was amazing. She helped me make a change to my order shortly after I ordered so I could enjoy my food, and seemed genuinely happy to help. She was lovely. Now to the food, I wish I could give this place five stars, but I cant. If it was based solely on the debris fries I had id give it a 1000/10. The pot roast was so tender, juicy, flavorful. The cheese sauce was rich, smooth & creamy and I loved how they had creole seasoning and hot sauce on the table....BUT I also got a poboy, the fried shrimp topped with gumbo, I believe it was called the Da Yat. First bite I was decently happy. Gumbo was decent, and the shrimp was crispy, though it could have used a bit more flavor...(this was easily fixed with the complimentary Tony's on the table) but then I realized there was a bitter flavor I wasn't really liking within my sandwich. I started analyzing it and realized not a single one of the shrimps was deveined. It really turned me off to my sandwich. I ended up having to pick through the shrimp and pull the veins out myself which resulted in getting gumbo everywhere and using copious amounts of napkins..and being as the shrimp was breaded i ended up loosing alot of breeding. It was just disappointing because it didn't even appear as the shrimp had even been attempted to devein and im not going to lie, i had a hard time enjoying it after. Other than that though, the food was great. Cant praise the debris fries enough, and my husband really enjoyed his hamburger po boy. They also had delicious looking dessert options I didn't try but I thought about it for longer than I'd like to admit. 😅Another thing I noticed is that the prices on the receipt were different from the price listed online or on the board, by a couple dollars, which isnt a huge deal..but it would be nice to know if your ticket is going to be more than you thought it was. Overall, it was a decent experience and i would go back, I would just avoid the shrimp.

Had a fried shrimp poboy - excellent taste. The bun was slightly grilled on the outside and soft on the inside. With a side of frys - also tasted good as well.

I ordered hot Roast Beef sandwich and it was the best Roast Beef I have ever had in my life. Everything about this sandwich was perfect, the seasoning, the amount of roast beef, the bun. I also got a sandwich ice cream after which was good but was too much for me. I highly recommend this place.

New Orleans is really cooking! Going for a poboy is a must here. Had a catfish one and seafood bisque. Delicious. The place is homey and unassuming although a bit expensive for a fast food resto. Still worth trying. On bourbon st - on the eastern quieter side of the st.
Elijah T.
The employees there are nice people and welcoming people. Got the gator poboy, It's not really badly spicy, but it gives it more of a kick, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. It was delicious and soft on the inside so I'm quite happy with it.
James Hockersmith
My Go-To PoBoy spot downtown. Never been disappointed by their food or use of spices. You may think a sandwich shop on Bourbon St. might be too touristy but it’s just a perfect location. Keep in mind they can get crowded but hey, price of a perfect lunch spot. 10/10

May look like a hole in the wall but the food is delicious and authentic, the staff friendly and helpful. I totally recommend it.

This was our second time visiting this location on Bourbon St. and our first visit was excellent! This time was not the same. We arrived at about 7:30pm tonight (sat) and it was not busy. Placed our order 12" half shrimp and oyster and an 8" debris, with a small fry... simple. Our order was quick and hot, the seafood was good ( smaller portion imo). The debris was just sliced roast beef with gravy. I think it was the wrong sandwich in hindsight. NOW the bad... the cutest little mouse was running around, I laughed but it totally grossed out my lady. I get it old Building but still not great. We sat in the back and had to listen to angry staff arguing about doing work someone else should do blah blah... don't need to hear that. Then a few minutes later, I think it was the cook, spit in the trashcan right behind me not a foot from me! My wife was horrified and I was shocked. WE WILL NEVER RETURN. Gave it 2 stars because my sandwich was good. But $40 for 2 sandwiches , 1 fry and 1 bottle of water and it was a gross experience. Somebody needs to fix that mess of a location.

Food was delicious! This was a stop of ours on the ultimate 5-1 haunted tour for drinks. We decided to come back the following day and glad we did. The staff was very attentive and welcoming. We had gator, crawfish and shrimp platters all were cajun spicy. Also had the gumbo and a poboy delicious as well. Space was accommodating they had extra seating in the back with a table just right for my group of 5 :-)
Barbara Brockelman
Excellent food, we had grilled shrimp poboy, red beans rice, seafood bisque and nola ice cream. So delicious. John was a great help with our trip planning and was so incredibly kind and friendly!
Pamela Ariana Chavez
Tried it for the first time yesterday and I am hooked. I loved their poboys. Their shrimp and alligator poboy were very delicious, I highly recommend it. I enjoyed it so much I’ll be buying one to take back home to San Antonio with me!
Michael Hope
The P.O. boys were fantastic. The staff were amazing great place to eat.
Lex Loza
Great staff, very helpful and checked on us throughout our visit. Fried shrimp poboy is super. Will come back to try some gator and bbq poboy next time.
Kristin E Kennedy
Had the fried catfish poboy during a New Orleans food tour. It was so good that I returned 2 days later for another :)
Raymond Baker
I had an alligator po boy. Excellent flavor. The bread was just right. Great service!!!!
Harli Hayes Picard
One person in our group did not get her food for over an hour. I think they completely forgot about her order because people coming in way later got theirs. When she would go ask about it they would just brush her off and say it’s coming right out. We waited a total of an hour and 20 Minutes for a BLT. Will not be back.
Jacob Jordan
The food was awesome! Who Dat Po’ Boy is a must. Thanks for the ice cream Po’ Boys
Rachel McCullough-Rhodes
The food was not as good as last time and the cook was a complete and utter rude ass. We will not go back or recommend to people when they ask where they should go in the quarter.
Dumba
Quick easy simple food done well. Best place to get poboys in New Orleans. Convenient location on Bourbon Street. Friendly staff and simple menu.

Small lineup when we went on a Saturday for lunch. We had the 8” Big Easy (hot) and a shrimp poboy with tater tots. The Big Easy was pretty messy but tasted good. Lots of roast beef and ham with some sort of gravy. The shrimp poboy had lots of shrimp and was filling. Nice decor on the walls and servers were friendly.

Delicious and cheap. It's not much to look at but they have excellent po boys and fries. They are also open super late! I've heard the icecream is good as well.<br/>

This place was suggested by our Air BnB hostess and thankfully we asked. It is a great place to sit down and eat something quick. Though they were out of the soft-shelled crab at the time of visiting the oyster was my next choice. They were not kidding about it being spicy (but I love spicy so I won't complain). The bread was just the right crispy-ness. The fries were nice and fresh. The price was kind of high, but it's understandable. Overall worth it.
The_phantom_foodie
The only place to get hand dipped New Orleans Creamery ice cream. Stopped in for a dish and really enjoyed it. I had the Banana's Foster. Others had the Creole Cream Cheese which was very good!
Facebook User
A little disappointed with the poboy I had after reading the reviews. I got the dabris poboy and it was okay at best. My friend got the BBQ shrimp poboy and said it was also just okay. <br/>Maybe I had high expectations, but with a 30-45 minute wait time, I expected something much, much better than what I got.
Sad Tomato
Da-Bris fries were really good. They are big though so beware. We split the da yat Pinot that had oysters and covered in gumbo. It was extremely messy but pretty good. Not convinced it was the best sandwich ever.
Richie Shannon
While the poboy I had was not terrible, it was not repeatable. A cold roast beef must have been the worst choice on the menu. We received no guidance when met with an impressive wall of options and sandwich sizes. The bread was dry and at least a day old, the roast beef while cold was fully dark, tasting and resembling too many hours in the fridge rather than a fresh roasted and chilled cut. <br/><br/>Our fries were acceptable, very salty and covered in melted cheese. <br/><br/>Overall I would go to publix for a boars head sub and never look back, if the other choices on the menu were better then my experience was an unfortunate shame.
DineoutGal
This place is located on the more quiet section of Bourbon Street. The place offers a huge selection....45 type of po boys and it can be pretty overwhelming but I opted for the 8" shrimp po boy. My goal was to eat one classic po boy in NOLA. The sandwich is pretty overwhelming because they give you a lot of fried shrimp. The po boy was fine not amazing. The bread was light and the breaded fried shrimp was not too greasy. Something was missing from the sandwich - couldn't figure out what it was. I asked for it to be hot and spicy and it had a decent kick to it. I'm glad I tried it but it didn't live up to my expectations. It was about $15 for the sandwich and water plus tip.
Javier Robles
We just had some Po Boys today and let me tell you it's one of the top I've ever had in Louisiana!!! I got the 16 inch and it was a Giant Po Boy and fresh veggies accompanied by the fresh French Bread you can't go wrong.
Ed
Shrimp po-boys fried or grilled are excellent 12" was too large for me and I am a large eater. The service was ok, but the flys buzzing around me were not pleasant.<br/>
TroyRad
Great staff. Food portions wet good and food was very tasty. Tried crawfish pie was described like a crab cake - not like that at all - more like a Cajun pastie. Stick with the po boys, red beans & rice, or platters
The Great Dimov
Excellent Po Boys. First time visit, very impressed with the Po Boys. Had the fried shrimp and fried crawfish Po Boys - crawfish was amazing. Must come with a warning though, just as Hot and Spicy coming out, as going in! Would go back again and try all of their other food.
Dr. Rieux
Tasty Po-Boy. It's always hard to find a good po-boy in New Orleans. I'm sure some one is raging at my review for saying that, but its true. The fact of the matter is, most po-boy shops are tourist traps and taste awful. I stopped here because I was in the Quarter for a concert and didn't feel like taking the car out of the hotel. My expectations were very low, "A po-boy shop on Bourbon? This has to be for tourists."<br/><br/>I hadn't been so wrong about a restaurant before. This place did an excellent job. I got the roast beef, dressed, with a botted Barq's. It was great. I'll make sure to visit this place often when I find myself at a festival.

Must try!!. Visited New Orleans last week and this place is AMAZING!!! Best BBQ shrimp, seafood gumbo and Po boys ever!!!!
Derek West
Brilliant. So incredibly good. Delivery was so fast. Great quality. New go to po boy spot
Ruby83
The Best. Something told me to stop in this place and I'm sure glad I did. They make the BEST soft shell crab Po boy. I had it at 3 other places and they fried it to a crisp. Do yourself a favor and try this place first. You won't be disappointed.

After I ordered and paid for everything I was told they did not have what I ordered. I've been ordered an oyster Po boy. Before I could change my mind, the Cook announced that they had no oysters, ran out the front door to buy oysters somewhere else, and came back 15 minutes later to begin preparing my order as well as five other orders.
SterlingArcher17
Such a strong start . Sadly it's going tourist. Even though they deliver. Figure on 7 oysters on an 8 inch. Plenty of other joints. I really do like some of the food though. Bad idea to bone the locals.
Kelly From Iowa
Well, it's a dive. There wasn't a sink in the bathroom. Waited an hour for food to show up. Made my order wrong. Twice. Finally left with a refund (had to ask for a full refund, they only offered to refund the sandwich that didn't ever show up). This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had...and that is saying something! How this has a 90+% rating is a true mystery. I tried my wife's food, and it was mediocre, at best. Please avoid this place...
New2no
Dee - vine. Very cool ambiance, service amd twists on uber delicious sandwiches. I suggest the Nola I jist had on "bread" as thet call it - texas toast, but actually not un un healthy - delicious* and I'll be back there this week...

Fantastic - must eat location for poboy - da yat shrimp amazing!

Hidden Gem on Bourbon Street. Tucked into a little unassuming location towards the quieter end of Bourbon St.<br/>I live in the Quarter and dine here or opt for delivery several times a month.<br/>This place serves up great po'boys and sides at a very reasonable price. I usually order the fried shrimp or BBQ shrimp po'boy and sweet potato fries. They're always very good. Service is hit or miss depending on who's behind the counter, but is generally friendly and helpful. Open late and they do deliver in the Quarter. They don't serve alcohol but you can walk across the street and grab a beer or drink at one of the bars and bring it back in. <br/>If you're tired of tourist food and prices in the Quarter opt for a great po'boy here
Redfish
Best oyster poboy ever! Da Yack... Fried oysters on a dressed bun covered in gumbo, and complimentary shrimp & crawfish bisque (they were giving out samples and hooked 2 of our party of 4) @ NOLA PoBoys - a little Bourbon St. hole in the wall that looks like, as Jimmy Buffet said, "If the floor fell through you'd fall straight into Hell!" But my word! It was slap your granny, slap Paula Dean, Slap Paul's Dean's granny GOOD!
Cnd
It was good, flavor was good but more bread than oysters, but not bad overall. I'd come back and maybe try another Po boy. They say the fried is spicy, but I added some hot sauce to my Po boy.
Krysten M
Food was great but service needs work the counter girlq mde a very rude comment about the tip we left her
Jackie Marie
Very good!! We got the fried shrimp po boy and the grilled catfish poboy.

The surf n turf poboy is one of the best in the city!

Love This Place. I'm a native to New Orleans, so of course I love food! This place has one of the best shrimp po-boys I've ever had... Their po-boys in gerenal are great. I work in the area, and send customers here on a daily basis... Staff is always friendly! Keep up the great work guys!

PHENOMENAL POBOYS!. As a local, if you want unbelievable poboys in the French Quarter at a reasonable price, this is the place. The debris poboy HAS to be made with angel kisses because it tastes like heaven! Their fried shrimp poboys are utter perfection, too - with the traditional spicy breading taht so many touristy restaurants don't have (due to the sensitive palates of people from "away.") The food here is QUALITY and done the way it is supposed to be done. I work in the quarter and at least once a week, I get lunch here. Try the debris fries - they will change your life.

Ok, Sunday at 1pm... They were out of several things that we tried to order. They kept getting orders confused (they need to either give order numbers or take names) we had 3 people in our group, and everyone's order arrived at a different time. However, when we did finally get our food, the po boys were good. The fried items were well cooked and seasoned nicely. Good crusted French bread, and wasn't so overly dressed. So... Good Po Boy, bad service system.
Ragnar
A great catfish Po Boy!. Recently moved to another state from New Orleans. I have eaten at many other Po Boy locations in the city. I was back in NOLA for a conference. I had the opportunity to have lunch here one day. It is really a po boy shop in the downtown area rather than a grocery shop. It is not far from the conference center so it is convenient. It is right beside the Cochon butchery. I had a catfish po boy dressed. The 6" size was plenty for me. It was delicious. Did not have to wait long at all. They had the Saint's game on the TV so I was able to enjoy my catfish po boy and the Saint's game at the same time. The price was reasonable. I would recommend this place to others and would not hesitate to return.
Twyla G
Loved the pot roast poboy. Husband had the oyster which was about average. Good but not spectacular like the beef.
Wayne Smith
Spicy Shrimp Po-Boy; best I ever had!
Robrina Walker
Delicious fried shrimp po boys with large, fried to order shrimp.
Jeff Culpepper
We stopped in for PoBoys (shrimp) and they were fantastic. This is where the locals go. Great food at a reasonable price.
Lance
Just awesome. I had the "yat". Fried oyster po boy with gumbo on top. It was a fork and knife meal. Wife had a simple shrimp po boy. Fries on the side. Whole meal was killer. Nice atmosphere, very helpful staff. Tons of choices. TRY THIS PLACE!
Noton Yourlife
Cheap! Good! Close!. Unless you are handcuffed to something at the Convention Center you have no business eating eating the Center's overpriced trash when you could get more, better food here for less. Don't let the building scare you away, good food for cheap!
Alexis Derbin
Hole in the wall greatness. Had the roast beef poboy. Took a lot of napkins, but it was delicious and simply dressed. The guys working inside were super friendly and obviously know what they are doing when it comes to putting together a great poboy. I Will definitely stop in again next time I'm in town.
C-Rod
Great po-boys and friendly service. I ordered an assortment of po-boys for 30 people and it was amazing. The service was great- they helped me choose the best variety of sandwiches and delivered them right on time.
Emperess Jean Nicoleon Ray
I love these guys!. A good sandwich and a few conveniences just around the corner. Nothing fancy, just friendly affordable and good!
Kim Lynn
My favorite place to get a shrimp poboy!! Shrimp has a nice kick! Their roast beef debris is also excellent. Ham is great also, but my staple is the shrimp!
Urbanspoon Gimp
My favorite Warehouse District po-boy. Granted, there aren't many. What's the only other? Mother's? They make a mean BBQ beef po-boy, something I don't get at any other po-boy place. The hip ignore it and walk on to Cochon Butcher, but if you want a hole in the wall with some solid and reasonably priced food, Nola Grocery is a good choice.

...Though some may argue that there are better out there, one cannot deny that the poboys here are very good, and the variety they offer is overwhelming.
