Review Dat Dog - New Orleans

S D
This place is so colorful and cute! Plenty of seats inside, and lots of outdoor seating as well. Everyone in our party ordered something different, but we all LOVED it! Since it is cooked to order, we figured we may be waiting a while, but it wasn't long at all. Service was good, and they were helpful in answering our questions. Would love to go back if I ever visit the area again!

Was told by many to try these hot dogs during my visit. It can get very busy in this place, we was offered to sit upstairs with no wait. That was fun! The upstairs was empty! We sat on the balcony, had a few drinks with the duck and alligator dog….both great… so great went back before turning in for the night! Recommend if you like “whole in the wall” type food. to each his own!

Delicious food. The staff were really friendly and shared their favorites. Everything was so delicious. We tried the duck dog special (off menu), etouffe dog, and alligator dog. And loaded etouffe fries as well. There was fun illustrations of the different hot dogs painted across all the windows. 🌭

This place is so cool looking, the staff is freaking fantastic, helpful, and way nicer than they have any right being. When you get to the hot dogs they are also DELICIOUS. I'm not super into hot dogs because there's so many reasons where they can go wrong but my friend and husband wanted to go and I was hungry. Absolutely beyond expectation. We got the crawfish etouffe dog. Delicious. My friend is vegetation and they have a lot of really good options that I, as a meat eater, was strongly considering because they sounded so tasty. Go here.No regrets.

We happened to stop in by chance but I'm glad we did. Initially I was put off by the demeanor of the worker standing in front of the food pickup area. No smile, no welcoming attitude. I'm assuming the manager was the next person that spoke to us, he was more approachable and asked if we had been helped. Ordered our food and drinks, the wait was longer than expected especially when there was only one couple in there before us. Overall the food was good, the "burger" hotdog was obviously a little joke among the table. As we were finishing up more customers were filing the small spot. I'd say, give it a try if you are in the area.

The amount of choice for the type of hot dogs is insane!! All type of meat to please anyone, even vegetarians. I have tried the crocodile and the duck ones, and they were both amazing! Also, the staff there are so friendly. Don’t really pay attention to the time indicated on Google, they are open late, we were there past midnight, we were so thankful to find them open!

Super good food y'all! Loved the service. It was so busy and they still were able to show the love to their customers. The dogs were outrageous and the fries were perfect. Thr Rougarou alligator dog was amazing with the jalepenos and bacon. I'm going back before I leave town for sure. Y'all should do the same.

Fun hot dog spot, loaded up dogs come in a variety of configurations and are really yummy. They also have a great selection of vegetarian options which was a pleasant surprise. Exactly what you need after a night of drinking and taking in the sights on Frenchman.

Loved this place. Found it because we were trying to find a low-key place to eat something quick, while still able to sit down. The cooks were super sweet! Told us about all the different types of dogs there and even explained different parts of the menu. Food was amazing. I loved that they had vegan options for me and meat options for my friends. One small complaint (which was not the fault of the establishment) was that the location was very warm and the tables were low for several of the booths. Otherwise - everything else was great!

How can hot dogs be this good? So delicious, so many different ways of hot dogs, so fun vibe, open late. Perfect after jazz club. Probably best hot dog I ever tasted.

Good place to go eat. Got the burger, which was a burger in hotdog form in a toasted hotdog bun. It was pretty good just not how I expected. I also got the chili cheese fries. I would come back again just would skip the fries next time. Bartender was super friendly great place.

The best place in New Orleans! Hans has been our server twice so far (we went three times within 12 hours) and is the coolest dude in NOLA. Cannot recommend enough!

I have to hit this place up every time I come to town. I have not had one bad meal in all of the times I have been there. I recommend the crawfish dog. Excellent.

Best dog! Do yourself a favor skip the extras like fries (but the bacon ranch are spectacular!!!) and try 2 dogs. Get the dog you know and love and then get something out there...You won’t be sorry!

Dear #DatDog, we NEED you in Atlanta. My food, libation and overall Frenchman St. experience was so over the top amazing! I’m now dreaming of duck sausage with blackberry sauce and those buns! We need to get Dat Dogs to the people, yo!

Great staff and great food. I have food allergies and as soon as I asked a question about ingredients they had an allergen sheet for me to look at immediately. It's always great peace of mind knowing what I can eat safely. Will definitely be back.

I loved this place. Awesome atmosphere, great location, incredible food, and an outstanding staff. A must see.

That was the best Dog I have ever had and the price was amazing for alll that you got! The WTF fries are a must if you go here! Absolutely delicious!

Had a great time. Thank you to Hans, the bartender for advising me of the off-menu Duck Special Dog. That was a treat

Great place live sports on screens , great beer selection. Really great recommendations from the bar tender . Awesome atmosphere & dogs! Dogs can be so versatile rather than just ketchup / onion/ mustard !

The food was so delicious that my friends and I had it twice in one night. Would definately recommend Dat Dog to others.

An unexpected surprise on the Real Jazz street in New Orleans. An informal restaurant with a fantastic menu of hot dog and sausage combinations, along with a nice beer selection.

I would love to give a great review, but.....they say seat yourself oh but the guy at the bar waved a menu and said you order up here. Ok, fair enough we aren't from here so we didn't know. It was late afternoon, but they weren't very busy. We stayed 4 nights just 2 doors down and the restaurant smells so good and looked fun. Unfortunately the bartender didnt acknowledge us, tell us it would a minute or anything. I stood at the bar with my menu ready for almost 5 minutes without even a word. We gave up and went elsewhere.

Absolutely best dog ever!! Great service great food! Will be back tonight for more!

Food was ok, it was a good tasting dog. They have many options of dressing a dog. I probably would have given them 4 stars if prices weren’t as high as they are...after all they are hotdogs.

This is the place to go for loaded hot dogs! You can choose from their speciality dogs or create your own. The ingredients are great quality and the price is a good deal.

My family is arriving in New Orleans to join me for Thanksgiving week, and our first stop was one of the Dat Dog locations near the French Quarter. Read my review of the veggie hot dogs at Dat Dog after the jump. Dat Dog has several locations in New Orleans, and I took my daughter to the one just outside of the French Quarter in Marigny. It's got balcony seating, too, but sadly this was not open for seating today. Too bad because the weather was amazing and who doesn't want to sit in the balcony in New Orleans?

I'm from Detroit, so unless you've had a Detroit Coney you cannot understand why I'm a tough sell. These were good, good price for what ya get, and creative. On Frenchman St, so always a treat eating out on the balcony and watching people.
Melissa Detore
So good! We had the Guinness and Crawfish dogs. They have the best bread I've ever tasted! Side note: I was not impressed with the fries. We had the bacon cheese ranch ones. Toppings were good but fries were mediocre. Still giving 5 stars for amazing original hot dogs!

NOTE: this review is for the Lakeside Mall location, which isn't listed currently.

I don't normally eat out for hot dogs. But after a local friend recommend Dat Dog, and I saw the options, it seemed worth a shot. I had the Werewolf Bacon dog (bacon, kraut, onions, creole mustard) and the WTF fries. (Jalapeño, cheese, tomatoes, chili, sour cream and guac) First and foremost, however many napkins you think you will need, double that. Second- the buns that Dat Dog uses are redonkulous. And their options are endless: regular dogs, smoked sausage, alligator sausage, shrimp sausage, and many more. I have one gripe. With all the attention to detail and creative ingredients, it's hard to believe that they would use canned chili. Some fresh, homemade chili would bring this review to a 5. Not a cheap meal ($18 with tip for one dog, deluxe fries and a bottle of water) but worth every penny.

I was told this place was a whole in the wall, more of a drunk food place. But wow this place was AMAZING! Crazy dog options with about a million toppings. Really interesting choices. Go here!

Rachel recommended this place and I will love her forever for it! These hot dogs have changed my life! We got the duck special dog and the alligator awesomeness. To call the "hot dogs" seems to under rate them. Dillin totally hooked us up by dressing out dogs for us. LOVED it!

Very friendly bar service.

Alligator dog with chefs suggestion toppings was very well balanced and tasted very good.

Cheesy fries were good although in hindsight would order normal fries. Good atmosphere.

It's a lot more expensive than I thought it would be, I was expecting a hotdog joint but actually there isn't just a plain regular hotdog on the menu. In the end the food was fine. The atmosphere was forced, a commercialized chain feel in amongst dirty authentic NOLA bars and clubs. It does have upstairs balcony seating which might be nice for people watching. I didn't have time for that this day. Overall it does not fit in well in taste or in ascetic.

Was going to reserve this rating for after I ate but screw it... Here it is: came her just to get Dat dog dat everyone's talking about... So funny thing... Got 2 beers 1 Jagermister and still no dog. 2 of the three drinks were from other locations. First we were asked for our passports as the only acceptable form of id as allowed by 'Louisiana law' by the douche downstairs to get two beers as no form of other identification will work in this state as he states... Then we walked out and got two drinks met two real dogs... Like a pit bull and a mongrel I think.... And came back for Dat original dog and had a beer now in their premises sold to us by them this time with out a need of a passport for verifications by the awesome chick upstairs and it's been 20 mins and my beer has gone warm and Dat dog still isn't here. Dat dog needs to get himself a watch.
Oh wait it just got here. Dat dog...

Good dogs... Horrible service

We always enjoy a great hot dog and drinks at Dat Dog, whenever we are in town.

Music was too loud, service took forever, skimpy toppings.

Walked out after waiting ages to be served, and were ignored

Whatta dog!. One of the best dogs I've ever had. The bun is steamed AND grilled. The variety of toppings is adventurous! I had olive salad on my all pork dog. Fries are great. Next time I'm in the Quarter I'm headed east down Chatres, across Esplanade to Frenchman to Dat Dog immediately! Friendly service and full bar. Loved it.

Expensive Over-Cooked Silly-Putty. The award for the Worst and Most Expensive meal I ate in New Orleans goes to Dat Dog. I didn't think it would be quite so easy to mess up a hot dog soo badly and simultaneously give the worst service available.. but I was proven very wrong. The texture was that of an over-cooked fast food chicken nugget that has been left out overnight and the flavor was reminiscent of paint primer. Over-all the experience was rendered tortuous by the compelling stupidity of the staff. We ended up leaving halfway through the meal. I only wish I had made that decision earlier because upon leaving I looked back into the kitchen and noticed one of the kitchen staff take the lid off some ingredients and a fully grown fly flew out of it, right past me and out the door I was holding open for a friend... unbelievable. Just when I thought I had seen it all.

PUT YA NAME ON IT!!!. Had the turduken sausage topped with crawfish, mustard and jalapenos. One of the greatest things i've ever tasted in my life...... i could eat here everyday....

Always friendly! Very clean atmosphere and the dogs are always awesome!

The food was delicious! Probably one of the best hot dogs I've had in my life. Even on a busy night with tons of customers they were relatively quick and always friendly. Will go back as often as possible!
