Review Mais Arepas - New Orleans

カメちろこ
It is a popular so it is better to make a reservation. I ordered fried fish. It was very delicious to eat a bit, but it wasn't completely cooked and I told the clerk, he said Shall we remake it? But It took about another 30 minutes, so we didn't need it. I'm sorry that all the dishes were delicious.Instead, desserts and beer were free and offered discounts. Just be careful as it is a dangerous area.

In a search of great food in New Orleans, who knew this restaurant would exceed all of my expectations! A local friend recommended it and I honestly expected it to be a hole in the wall spot, but the atmosphere is beautiful!! Drinks were amazing and the FOOD!!! Whew, the food was seasoned to perfection, flavorful, plated pleasantly, had fresh ingredients, and full of love!! I went to many highly suggested restaurants while here and this one is #1 in taste, service, and atmosphere! If I had time, I would have gone back to order another Carnicera Arepa! I also ordered the Calde de Castilla soup expecting it to be an appetizer, but it was a whole meal! Mrs. Norma was an amazing server and even helped me with my Spanish. I’ll definitely go here every time I’m in the city!!

We went to this restaurant without a reservation and it was at least an hour long wait, so we sat at the bar. MAKE RESERVATIONS!! This place stays packed. While the food was delicious I found the portions small and overpriced. The ambiance was nice however. Parking was a little hard to come by as it’s street parking only so be prepared to look for parking as the area seems to be more residential than anything else.

Love the vibe in the bar area! Well-priced cocktails, wine and beer along with fabulous Columbian cuisine. Shareable plates. Fun place. Loved the Pisco Sour.

Amazing to see a Colombian restaurant nestled in the area Ordered the bandeja paisa, arepa sampler (was mostly shredded meat) and arepa. The arepa was a sweet arepa, which are my favorite. I also had the Agua de panela con limón , which is close to how my mom makes it when I visit home Sat at the bar because the seats were filled, so I recommend making a reservation

Best Bandeja Paisa in the area. place gets quite busy so calling ahead to reserve a table is highly encouraged. Price is not cheap, but food is worth it.

Excellent quality food and flavors. Friendly and quick service. We had one app, two mains, two drinks, and one dessert for only $100. The tres leches was amazing. I do recommend reservations as it was totally full as soon as it opened. We will definitely come back.

Hands down the best arepas in the South! Every time we visit NOLA, this is the first place we go to. Earlier this year they also were super accommodating when we brought in a Bachelor Party where several folks had food allergies. Amazing food, amazing people - definitely check this place out.

This hidden gem was absolutely amazing! Food was so delicious! It is small, so be sure to make reservations before you go if you don't want a long wait in the tiny space by the bathroom. They also don't split checks, which is fine if it's posted somewhere (door, menu, host stand), but it was not, so that was a little annoying.

Wow. A safe place to eat. Gluten-free in New Orleans is no small thing. The food was incredible. The atmosphere was lovely. The music was pleasant and not so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk. I highly recommend this place.

Absolutely the worst service I’ve ever had. I’m amazed because I’ve been coming for multiple years and it has always been bad, but not this bad. I hope they figure it out but I will never be back.

The fried pork belly is absolutely delicious. It's also very necessary to get the street corn appetizer. I love the plantain chips that come as a side, as well.

Love the food and drinks! The staff is very nice. Wish the place had more seating and parking. Definitely recommend call ahead for a reservation.

This place is amazing! Drinks, food and service were all excellent! The corn appetizer and ceviche is the best ever! I started with the blood orange margarita, shrimp ceviche and corn, split with three people. We each ordered an entree and we all left satisfied! The chicken soup is amazing as well! All around great spot to have dinner!

I ordered take out today in order to acquaint myself with the restaurant.  The environment is cozy sexy cool-I love it (note to self-new hangout).  The service was wonderful and I look forward to returning.  Ok - I am not joking - the food was like I died and went to foodie heaven.  I am a native of New Orleans and I am accustomed to well seasoned food.  The food at Mais Arepas was scrumptious!!!  The marinera arepas was not only aesthetically pleasing, it was also filled with grilled shrimp seasoned to perfection and a lovely array of citrus slaw, avocado, and red salsa.  For desert, I have a slice of tres leches heaven.  OMG - it was the most beautiful delicious, creamy, mouth watering cake slice covered with plump berries and rich creams.  I might order this arepas every week this month before I become vegetarian lol.  In December, I will order all vegetarian dishes.  Tomorrow I will order the maiz de la rueda with my arepas  : D

The food was delicious! Everything had lots of flavor, no heat, though. That surprised me. The corn appetizer had "spicy butter" on it. It was really good but not spicy. Next time, I will ask for spicy heat. There will be a next time for sure. Service was good.

Incredible! The Areias are full flavored, the sauces delicious, and the waitstaff friendly. I recommend the Mechada Arepa.

Terrible service. Waited 25 mins for a table. They were out of most brands of beer on the menu... On a Saturday night!! Out of the much advertised soup... The menu is mostly arepas and two soups- out of one of two soups on a Saturday night ... Finally got a table, server didn't take the order for another 10-15 mins. No food after 30 mins of the ticket being prepared.. Like I said the menu is mostly arepas. How can they not put together the arepas and the prepared meats/ fillings and sauces together within 30 mins. On complaining about it, we were told that it had only been 30 mins since the ticket was handed to the kitchen. We left without dining to finally grab a bite at a place with better service. Will not be going back!!

The food is amazing but the service is terrible. There is an older lady with glasses who is rude. This was not the first time she had a bad attitude. The service really needs work. I've worked in the food industry for a while so I know the perfect combination of great and service. Other than that I think it's a just try.

The good bad and ugly. Food : good<br/>Service: bad<br/>"Rules" for dining: ugly<br/>Doesn't seem to be about OUR dining experience , rather what was easier for waitress and kitchen. Food was great but waitress ruined the dining experience. Shame shame.

Worth the wait!. We had to wait and hour and a half for a table, but the food and the service was well worth it! Friendly, flavorful, unique and AMAZING margaritas!

I made a reservation for my birthday at Maïs Arepas last night. When I arrived with half of the party, we tried to enter at 5:55pm. Someone immediately came and locked the door, telling us that they do not open until 6pm and that they still do not have everything ready. When I had made the reservation over the phone, the person that I spoke to informed me that they are very strict about being on time for your reservation time, and if you are 10 minutes late, they will give your table away. I tried to make the reservation for 7pm, because I have a few friends who do not get off of work until 6pm. The person over the phone told me that the latest she could do was 6:15. Although a bit annoyed, I still figured that if the rest of our party got there in time, our table would be fine. When they finally unlocked the door, they told us that we could not sit at the table until the rest of our party arrives. I thought this was strange, considering I had let them know that 6:15 was pretty impossible for a few members of the party. Not to mention, the entire restaurant was empty. Once again feeling annoyed, we decided to just have some drinks at the bar. Of course, they asked for our licenses and when I presented mine, the woman behind the bar informed me that my license was expired and that she could not accept it. I had completely forgotten that my license was going to expire this year, and when she told me I was pretty confused and disheartened. I understand that she has to follow certain rules, but my age will never expire. Maybe if I was turning 21 I would understand, but I am 24 years old. Even though I was sad, I tried to explain to her that I still had until midnight on the night of my actual birthday, because this has happened to me in the past. She told me that the manager had already told her to refuse serving me alcohol, so we all decided to leave. We went to BARU instead, where I was going to go in the first place. BARU had our entire table seated within 10 minutes, and provided us with the utmost customer service. Love that place! The only reason I chose Maïs Arepas was because I had never been there before and wanted to try something new. I had heard great things, but because I was treated rudely I will never return. In addition, I gave the restaurant a one star rating and they "liked" it instead of addressing it. Very poor customer service. <br/><br/><br/>***I posted this to their Facebook page and they began internet fighting with me, which is just about as effective as talking to a wall. I merely wanted to voice my experience which I have every right to do, yet was rebutted with denial, sarcasm, and rudeness.

No idea how people can say the meats were not flavorable or the food is expensive. One of the best new restaurant experiences in nola. I almost didn't want to post for fear that too many people will start going to this gem. Very clean, great staff, great drinks and just well seasoned and fresh food. The place is great!

Very good shrimp ceviche and arepas (chicharepa and carnicera) served by very friendly, competent staff. The place is clean, attractive, comfortable. High quality ingredients and good-sized portions.

Authentic (ho hum). I was once again reminded how boring Latin American Food usually is -- once I eat south of Mexico, my sriracha-loving mouth can not find the stimulation it so needs.<br/><br/>Nevertheless, the cerviche was quite delicious and I would order it again if someone dragged me there to eat again. <br/><br/>The arepas were a grilled cornmeal patty without much flavor, topped by a variety of shredded meat -- the chicken was like a very bland chicken salad (yes it was cold) with a few pieces of celery or something. The pulled pork and shredded beef were bland as I already said. <br/><br/>They give you sauces for flavor but in itsy bitsy portions. <br/><br/>Though I got a beer, the bartenders seems to be doing some impressive drinks. <br/><br/>My biggest complaint -- though I don't "get" soccer, it would have been more appropriate than "family guy" on the TV above the bar.

I had the mechada, and it was perfect. So was the trio of sauces that came with the arepas. The food was was pricey, but filling. The service was also very nice, but they were quite busy and a bit slow even though it was a Wednesday night. I would definitely go back to try more!

Lovely decor, very attractive space with open, modern/rustic feeling. Service is very friendly. Arepas very good and portion is generous. I had the grilled chicken arepa and it was garnished with delish carmelized onions. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

The ceviche will blow your mind; the red wine selection rocks; ambience is lively yet casual; the skewers are fantastic!<br/><br/>Don't miss this little gem!

The.restaurant serves very good albeit over priced food. I enjoyed the reina and paid $11 for it! Service was good; bathrooms were clean. Not worth the money and neighborhood is scary. Avoid at night.

Normally, the food speaks for itself, but here, everything from the plating, the smells, and the flavors spoke to you. The arepas (pronounced: a-ray-pahs) are cornmeal-based...

Located in an aqua, two-story building on the corner of Carondelet and Clio Streets, Mais Arepas was rather quiet when we wandered in at around noon, with only one other table occupied. While Anne and I s
