We took a ride into New Haven to get some good Italian food and desserts. We stopped at Skappos for some lunch. We had Parma with fig spread and goat cheese on a ciabatta bread, deeeelicious.
For dessert we had fresh made cannoli and biscotti, with a hot fresh made cappuccino.
I would highly recommend if your passing through New Haven stop in.
My only disappointment with Merkato is that I didn’t eat here until my last day in New Haven. The food is delicious and the owner was very friendly. Wonderful experience.
I had the Porchetta sandwich and it was the best sandwich I’ve had in a long time. The bread was fresh and the porchetta was slightly crisp, juicy and totally delicious.
I also had a coffee granita which was awesome. It is my favorite coffee drink and are hard to find. He made mine perfectly.
Quaint, welcoming staff and great products. Highly reccomend their espresso drinks. The sweet bread products they make on Friday are also superb. Definitely worth checking out.
Amazing Food and great espresso.
If you are looking for lunch in Ninth Square this is a great option. Its a small seating area and usually only one or two staff, so if you are in a hurry I would look to another option, but the food is worth the wait, and you will definitely want to sit and enjoy your sandwich. My personal favorite is the Bongusto, all of the ingredients are fresh, good quality and the result is well balanced.
The staff is super friendly and always up for a chat while you wait. If you are in the need for a pick me up they also make a great espresso drink.
A final note is that our office uses them for catering lunches from time to time and the sandwiches are just as good when delivered as they are when you go in person.
Love this lunch spot!
I went in during the covid pandemic. The place was cozy, and the owner pleasant. The food is made in front of you, and they have pastries made every Friday. The coffee is good, the salads good, the prosciutto looks fresh and not at all dried out.
Certainly a great place to eat if you want a touch of Italian.
This place is great. I came here for a sandwich and donut on a Friday and they were both terrific. I had to wait quite a while for the donuts but the owner saw my frustration apologized, and gave me two free donuts on the house for my wait. I worked in the service industry before and I always appreciate someone who cares that his customers always leave satisfied. Also, best donuts in New Haven.
Bake sale on Saturday morning had the most delicious blueberry muffins and focaccia that we’d tried in a long time!! Sweet small business, family owned and staffed. We may well be returning every Saturday for more focaccia
