Review Atticus Bookstore Cafe - New Haven

Alessandro Frati
Nice bookstore with a small cafe located in the first floor of the Yale British Art Gallery. Their pastries are above the average cafe, I've tried the "nest" this time and it was a nice combination and not too sweet (but definitely too big).

Cute coffee/bookstore. BEVERAGES: I got a Iced latte and a hot chocolate which were very good. FOOD: Caprese panini, good (better heated/toasted which wasn’t) One avocado toast: very good but there is that orange sauce on it that is a little spicy so be aware. One Croissant Sandwich (good as well). One Apple Chausson very good

The Chocolate Croissant was great. The Cheese Danish was superb. They are great in bakery and deserved 5 stars, until I tasted scone (apple fruit flavored). The scone was a slab of wheat flour, partially cooked. Now I am a little afraid trying out other bakery items, just to avoid experience like the scone.

Great coffee, tasty food, and good vibes. The place is perfect for a lunch date or just grabbing a quick to go bite and enjoying the books. Highly recommend the squash sandwich!

A great coffee shop nestled in a bookstore. This plaice has an amazing breakfast sando, great chia pudding and solid coffee. Definitely check this spot out.

This is a cozy place with a nice little collection of books on culture, arts, architecture and design. The cafe is nicely organized and has variety of healthy snacks. We came in for coffee before closing and were very surprised when the workers gave us some food for free because the next day was a holiday. Nice place with sweetheart people for those who love good coffee and books!

The best… I repeat the BEST croissants that our little Nutmeg State has to offer. I mean it when I say that Atticus’s pistachio croissants are out of this world. These croissants are truly comparable to European baking; (most American pastries are not). Exceptional quality, texture and flavor. Way to go Atticus!

It's been a while since I've been to Atticus; I assume they no longer have table service. I sat at the counter and no one offered any assistance. After almost 10 minutes I realized everyone with food in the dining area had cardboard containers and paper cups. There was not an obvious sign posted indicating table service is no longer available, but I suppose I could have missed it. The sign that was obvious, however, was the one requesting that guests wear a mask. It's perfectly fine to have a mask requirement, but don't gather in plain site of customers while eating and chatting in a confined space without masks yourselves. It was frustrating to watch four employees only 10 feet away and not one of them offered any help or guidance. One star for poor customer service. I can't rate the food as none was offered.

Really wonderful selection of both contemporary and classic books in paperback in very little space with occasional astute/witty comments by staff. If that were not enough, the cafe component is also very high class, with excellent fresh breads and other bakery items. Great cards, too. But what am I saying: Atticus has been literary ground zero in New Haven for decades.

My son recommended this place and while in New Haven it was on our must visit places... the food is exceptional, the staff are very polite and attentive, and with it sharing space with Books gives an all around relaxing atmosphere, even during the busiest of time...

I come here all the time because it near the law school. 99% of the employees are awesome but the manager is awful. I cannot recommend the place when she is here. Run before she snaps and yells at you.

Great bookstore - complete with a small selection of vinyl records, a pleasant surprise. Superb cafe(!) with great food (!), great coffee and a friendly staff. Perfect spot for lunch if you are going to the Yale Art Gallery or/and British Art museum.

The bookstore is excellent. The Cafe is hosted/operated by s very unpleasant person. So unpleasant that I don't recommend the place.

The place to be in New Haven, CT. Love the ambiance. I used to come here 2-4 times a week when I lived in CT, and would bring every out-of-state guest here; everyone loved this place.

Love the one dollar coffee, great place to hang out after visiting the museums.

The food is great and reasonably priced! The atmosphere is fun lots of students and business folk. Very busy at lunch time. It’s next door to the British Museum and the Yale Art Gallery. If you have the mobile app to pay for your parking it makes street parking easy and since it sends you notice when expiring you needn’t worry about s ticket.

One of the best bookstores in the country, here in New Haven, with the name of one of fiction's loved characters. RIP Harper Lee and thank you.

Lovely. Very good. Good service. Great book selection. Great place to meet friends before a tour of Yale and Historic New Haven. Try the Morning Glory Cupcakes. They're so good, they're almost illegal! (Morning Glory Seeds. Hm).

Food, good! Books, good! Fire, bad!!! Seriously though, Atticus is a New Haven tradition.... Seeing so many businesses fold over the past 25 years, it's nice to see that this place, that's nestled in the heart of New Haven, is still doing a wonderful job! Go there, now! Eat, read, and be merry!
