***UPDATE*** Added a star back as I made it back this fall and was able to actually order food, both appetizers and dinner. Food was great, beer selection was still awesome, and several of the staff actually remembered us despite it being almost 7 months since our last visit. Made sure to stop in a couple times that week for drinks, love this place! ***ORIGINAL REVIEW*** Stopped in for a beer before meeting up with some co-workers at a different restaurant. Was warned by the waitress the location we were heading wasn't great, but friends were already there and obviously the warning could be biased. The other place had horrible flat beer and the food was just okay. Returned to poppy's to finish the night, admitted my mistake the server, and had a great night. I tried several of the beers they had on tap, and they were excellent. My buddy loves bourbon and enjoyed his drinks as well. Several in our group ordered food and said it was excellent. The wait staff were outstanding. Very friendly, chatty, and excellent service. The only reason I'm giving four instead of five stars is I didn't personally have any of the food, but next time I'm in town I intend to head back and try the menu that looks great and hopefully will be able to update my review!

This place is a gem. We had the jalapeño poppers…..just outstanding. The burgers are just as good…….we ordered medium rare, and we got medium rare…….and they were the best burgers we can remember. Not to be outdone….our waitress, Leslie, was one of the nicest and most professional people you could hope for…….thank you to Leslie and whoever cooked our dinner. We look forward to coming back many times.

Exceptional burger, the best I’ve had after a few along the coast. Superior service from Cody. When we weren’t sure about what beer to try he offered a couple samples. Nice variety of beer on tap. I ate the Reveille burger, which includes a fried egg (to order), hashbrowns and bacon. They throw lettuce tomato and onion on this beast as well. For sides, many choice, but only one choice for me: tots. My whole family left full and happy. Thank you!

Great service and food. Plenty of parking in the neighborhood. They certainly appreciate our veterans. My sister brought me here. The unsweet iced tea was really good. Food is a little pricey, but all food everywhere is pricey nowadays... Restaurant clean, well decorated. Look forward to trying the fish tacos. (That's what my sister ordered) Again, the service is top notch. Looking forward to returning to try more on the menu!

Literally, we had one of the best food service professionals in the business. Incredible! And the food was just as great. My spouse had a chicken cheese steak with sweet potato fries, which had the most tender bits of seasoned chicken (I sampled); and I had the white cheddar mac and cheese with three pieces of bone-in pork spare rib (the sauce was fresh and unique with a taste combination of honey and citrus orange). I usually don't order macaroni and cheese at restaurants, but our super server convinced me with her review of the specials (extra server points here +++). Above all, she asked us did we want to know the specials of the day, 🤌. And yes, the atmosphere was top notch. We ate our food outside, in-front of Poppy's restaurant, and the passerbyers--they helped to make the experience even better. Outside is where you get to enjoy your food and meet some of the most hospitable locals. Thank you Poppy and thank you New Bern.

The burgers were great! My husband got the loaded potato salad and it was so good. I got sweet potato fries and they were just ok - kind of soggy and not real hot. I wish they had the same sweet potato fry dipping sauce they used to have before the restaurant changed names. There was someone there singing named Joe and he was enjoyable to listen to! Overall a great experience and we'll be back.

From the moment we first walked in the door the service we received from the host and other staff members in the restaurant was great. We had the 4 star Mac’n cheese (with scallops, shrimp and candied Bacon) paired with the Italian 75 Signature Cocktail and the 4 star New England Venison Burger with candied bacon, garlic aioli , lettuce , tomato, and onion paired with the Croatan Pale Ale by Shortway Brewery. Tommy the Bartender was fantastic, is service was great and he was very entertaining (fun to interact with).
