Fabulous gluten-free pasties!! I’ve had them twice now and they never disappoint. They are super careful about cross-contamination, since one of the owners is gluten-free. I forgot this most recent visit, but if you want to eat it hot when you arrive be sure to call ahead so they have an hour to bake it. This place is a MUST when we are in the U.P. When they make the GF pasties, they clean and sanitize their equipment and surfaces and then they do not use regular flour for 24 hours prior to making their gluten free pasties. They do not, however, guarantee a 100% gluten free pastie—but I’ve never gotten sick and their level of precaution is amazing!
So excited to have a gluten free option for pasties!
I ordered a few gluten free frozen and called ahead an hour ahead and they heated one up for me. The rest of the frozen ones came wrapped up and with great instructions for how to heat them when I got home.
Super friendly staff as well. :)
Yes it’s true - Iron Town has gluten-free pasties! Like others, we were stopped at the light and my wife saw the sign in front saying Iron Town has gluten-friendly options. We immediately stopped, were greeted by a team member who gave us the full rundown on their GF options. We’ve never been able to have pasties thanks to our gluten issues so choosing a pastie was new to us. I chose the Spicy Jalapeño and my wife got the Traditional Beef. Took them back to our campground and warmed them in the trailer oven (the GF pasties are half-baked and frozen) and after an hour at 350 degrees we enjoyed excellent dinners. The fillings are delicious and the dough thickness is perfect at least to these pastie rookies. We’re going back for some GF turnovers for sure. Highly recommended!
Perfect! These are my comfort food. I had them in my school lunch as a child in the 80’s so I’m a connoisseur. Perfect crust, tasty filling, baked just enough. I bought some frozen to take home. The young man behind the counter was helpful and professional. Thank you!!
Cute little pasty shop. Tried the spicy jalepeno beef pasty, chicken pot pie and bierocks. All three were delicious!!!! And probably the best Gravy I've had so far out of all the spots I've been to. Ice cream and apple turnover was delicious as well! Will definitely be back.
Came late into Negaunee around 10pm and they had fresh baked beef pasties warm out of the oven. Traveling from Duluth to lower Michigan, I didn't have any dinner that night. My first time trying an official pasty and it was what I imagined, very tasty and filling. I'm on a low carb diet, but I couldn't resist and it was worth it. The two working at the counter were very friendly. Thanks for the memories :)
Stopped here specifically for the vegan pasties, which were hearty and so good! If you want to eat these pies on site, Irontown needs one hour to cook them for your arrival! Worth it to call ahead. Vegan crust filled with tofu, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, nutritional yeast, onion, and garlic. They were out of the spicy vegan pasties by 1 pm. Friendly staff at this UP charming roadside restaurant!
This was our first try at pasties in the Upper Pennisula. Located on a fairly busy corner. Parking can be a bit tricky as it's adjacent to a road that runs behind it.
Quite a few options for pasties here. We had 2 beef ones. My first experience with rutabaga, bit like a potato. Drier than anticipated, but the ketchup helped. (That's a standard consistency from what I've read)
Ice cream too, a decent variety if that's your thing. Staff were friendly.
Had my first ever pasty from here and it was DELICIOUS. Got the veggie pasty with hot gravy…. all I can say is YUM.
Every time I go to the Porcupine Mountains or Copper Harbor I make a stop at Iron Town for the best pasties of the UP!
