This restaurant is right on the main road of Ridge. It’s hard not to find it, making it in a nice, central spot. I was craving a simple meal and that’s mainly what I got. My girlfriend and I were seated a moment after we walked in. We sat at a corner booth. The place is a bit dated, but it was clean for the most part, so I’m not complaining. I ordered a diet soda for my drink, which was good and came with free refills. I ordered the Saganaki Greek (Flaming Cheese) to start us off with. I’m a fan of Saganaki, so it was practically a must for me. For my meal, I ordered the Commander Burger. It came topped with melted mozzarella cheese and sautéed mushrooms and onions. It was served with Lettuce, Tomato, and a Pickle. In addition to that, it included French Fries and Soup. I chose Lemon Rice for the soup. The Saganaki came with a basket of rolls. The rolls were really good. The Saganaki came out fresh with a nice crust to it. The lemon zing was nicely present in the dish. Their Saganaki is very easy to eat, so if you’re a first-timer to try it, this would be the place to go to do so. I recommend chopping up little pieces of cheese and eating it with the roll. It tasted like perfection! If I come back, I’ll more than likely be ordering their Saganaki again. The Lemon Rice Soup was pretty good. I do wish it was a little thicker. It came in a decent sized bowl. It’s a nice addition to get with a meal for sure. The burger was about average for the most part. I didn’t really care for the rubbery mushrooms on it. The Lettuce and Tomato didn’t really do it justice, either. The Pickle was pretty good. The French Fries were bland. I had to slam ketchup all over them. I ended up overpowering the burger with ketchup as well to finish it. It was just one of those instances where I wanted to finish my food to get to a proper full. It wasn’t a horrible burger and it wasn’t the best. The service was very efficient. Our waitress was being trained, I believe, so we basically had two servers. They were both great. They checked on us frequently and got us everything we needed. I will say that the service here was fantastic. They have the proper momentum going to keep their customers happy in terms of service. Overall, I was pleased with most of my food. I would love to try different items on their menu, because I bet they have some hidden, killer items. Their prices are friendly. Such a wonderful place to eat food is delicious... Customer service is great the waitresses are so kind and friendly..they don't rush you.. the prices are wonderful you get a lot of bang for your buck .. handicap accessible the family restaurant we could do as little as one person how to parties of 20 or more they also cater....

In absolute shock! Unbelievable, although some would argue it should not come as a surprise, that in this day there are still people that discriminate against mixed-race couples. I’m writing this because it’s now hit really close to home and to one of the most caring, loving and tolerant couples I’m privileged to know – my sister and her fiancé. <br/><br/>We have many restaurant choices in and around Munster, IN on where we choose to spend our money, I for one, my family and I ask you my friends (and those reading this review) to think very carefully when deciding to eat at Commander Restaurant (745 Ridge Rd Munster, IN 46321). Early afternoon on Thursday, January 15th my sister and her fiancé were disrespectfully treated by none other than the owner’s wife! They chose to sit on the same side of their booth and after her fiancé leaned in for a kiss they were demanded to leave by none other than the wife of the owner – which she proudly stated. If she – the owner’s wife does not want to entertain interracial couples at her fine (and I use this word with as much sarcasm that I can muster) establishment perhaps she should find a new line of business, in a different part of the world. Her behavior is absolutely horrendous and should be called out for the intolerant, fatuous, succubus behavior that she displayed. For my sister to call me in tears absolutely broken-hearted at the disrespect shown and the reminder people still behave in this despicable, imbecilic manner I could not stay silent! <br/><br/>While I’m sure “Mrs. Commander” is more than likely celebrated in her asinine way of thinking, in her amusingly small circle of supporters, this does not speak to all the employees at the restaurant – I know personally not everyone agreed with the imbecilic behavior shown towards my sister and her fiancé. <br/><br/>This disgusting despicable way of thinking has to stop! You’re serving in the public sector and all persons – no matter color, age, sexual-orientation, religious belief deserve respect!

Good Place for 30 Years. The Commander Family Restaurant is a fixture for Munster for past thirty years. It probably looks pretty much the same as it did thirty years ago. They have seating at booths, tables and counters. Smoking is permitted at the counter area, near the kitchen. I went there for the breakfast. Service is fast, they almost expect you to know what you want before you've sat down. Service is also attentive, making sure everything is good. I had the two eggs over easy, hash browns, corn beef hash, and English Muffins. It was all good and hot. Coffee is good as well, if a bit over priced. The check came without being asked and with a cheerful, "Have a nice day, Hon." I've eaten there for lunch and it consistently offers a good lunch as well. A painting of the Commander, looking like an old sea dog, is by the register, saying "Have a Bon voyage." Breakfast as described above was $7.85 without tip.
