An amazing treasure in rural Iowa.
Menu is broad, with a wide selection of common favorites along with a few specialty items served only at the Skillet Cafe. We had the Skillet Plate for breakfast. Peppers and onions were cooked but still crisp, potatoes were also cooked to perfection. Eggs cooked perfectly as ordered (over medium).
Service is excellent. Seated promptly and politely by courteous and helpful staff. Food served while still fresh. Follow up for drinks and other needs was very appropriate (not too little, not too much).
Covid preparedness is A+. Seating is all 6 feet apart. Touch free menus available by scanning QR code at the table on your smart phone. Touch free checkout also available with credit card. Not just good Covid prep, good service. Very smart.
Overall a great reason to visit Mt. Vernon Iowa as often as we can.

I love restaurants like the Skillet! It was small, but big enough to host a large family breakfast! Everything was made beautifully to order! Kind staff! Very clean and bright restaurant!

Great food. They gave me heads up that the kitchen was backed up due to short staff. Asked if the wait (20 minutes) was a problem. I said no and thank you. Service and everything else was 5 stars. It's must visit if you are MV.
