We arrived and the hostess asked us for a reservation after we told her that we did not have any she said that the next available table will be ready in an hour later, I asked her why so many empty tables and she said that the people hasn't arrived. She offered us the bar and we sat there. We were for almost two hours and the bar and to our surprise no one ever came to the empty tables.
Cocktails and stakes were great, but we had a Mahi Mahi with pilaf rice and was way to salty.
Had date night with my special lady friend at Rare Chop House in Mt. Vernon.
Got to try this new brownie dessert they had called the Mitchelin Star Turtle Brownie. I paired it with a Guinness.
Brownie: 4/5 (I like my brownies not quite as gooey)
Flavor: 5/5 (The Carmel, salt, and chocolate were incredibly well balanced and had a lot of flavor)
Beer: 5/5 (I love pairing dark beers with chocolate because it brings out the chocolate flavor)

The food and service was excellent. The atmosphere was more high class and it was quiet. I loved it. The waiter went The extra mile by putting a candle on my birthday dessert, which was free.
Very good food! Steak was done perfectly. Staff was helpful and friendly. The bill for 2 people was about 120 bucks but that's to be expected at a place like this. Definitely worth it.
Sydney started our experience on a high note - a friendly and wonderful hostess, and it was her first time working. 😊 Josh was our friendly, attentive, and efficient server. My father and I conversed as we sipped beverages - Chardonnay and Cosmopolitan - both were lovely. We ordered the prime rib special, cooked perfectly and generous portions - excellent! In addition to top-notch food, the decor is delightful and tables are spaced at a safe and pleasant distance. There is an accessible ramp at the side of the building as an alternative to the 3 steps in the front entrance. In addition, I greatly appreciated the convenience of online reservations. Overall, a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience. I will return on my next trip to Southern Illinois.
I was from out of town and looking for a great place to eat. This place had great reviews online so I decided to give it a try . The filet mignon I had was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy and had a fabulous taste. The mashed potatoes and the sautéed asparagus was on point. I ended with one of their in house desserts which was a triple chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. Everything I had was scrumptious. The service was awesome as well which I appreciate very much! I’ve been in town for 3 weeks and definitely the best food and atmosphere of any place I’ve been so far.

Rare is an Amazing restaurant, we were driving from Dallas to Indianapolis. This is a very good quality steak restaurant with many sophisticated dishes. Josh was a wonderful waiter he was running and very accommodating and very friendly. Highly recommended.
Clean. Food very good. Great details on decor. A few downfall that could be improved... Wished they had bread or rolls, was served a hard piece of toast, a big minus :( and salad not very good such as no croutons and blue cheese dressing tasted cheap oily taste. No salt and pepper on the tables was annoying. Great service.
