Had a great experience trying Burmese cuisine in Asia, and I kinda missed that. I was pretty excited to find Yoma Myanmar through yelp! It took us some time to figure it out what to order, some dishes are only available during the weekend, but the owner was nice, she offered other suggestions that turned out to be really good.
We opted for fried samusas, mohinga noodle soup, shan noodles, and yoma chicken rice to share. The fried samusas are similar to Indian fried samosas, but with a delicious dipping sauce. I liked the sauce, it was slightly spicy and with a good amount of acidity. The samusas had a great curry potato filling and flaky outside, probably one of the best I had. The mohinga noodle soup is a fish soup w/ noodles, it came w/ two crunchy toppings (dried fish & pickled veggies w jalapeño) which added a nice change in texture to the taste. The fish soup was dense and rich, and you can still taste some fish pieces in the soup. I honestly loved that it had several different textures in the soup, that reminded me of some dishes I had in Chiang Mai. Really good flavor. The only con would be the saltiness, it felt pretty heavy to finish the entire soup. Shan noodles is the dish that the owner recommended to us. It's relatively light, simple but surprisingly tasty! Make sure to mix the noodles w/ the sauce and toppings thoroughly before eating. So good! The Yoma chicken rice tastes similar to Indian chicken curry rice, the flavored rice was good, and the chicken was well-cooked.
Overall, 4.5 stars. Love this family-owned restaurant. Authentic Burmese cuisine in LA. Good portions, reasonable prices, and amazing flavors. We enjoyed our first experience in Yoma Myanmar, will def be returning soon.
The food took long to prepare but it was worth the wait. It was a traditional, home-style cooking which was very delicious. The owner was very friendly and nice. She hooked us up with extras and gave us some coconut jelly on the house.
Trying Burmese food for the first time. My mother and I were vegetarians, and the staff were very accommodating of our request. We ordered the fried bayar (falafel), Burmese tofu, Shan noodle salad, papaya salad, and tea leaf salad. All were very flavorful and had a good amount of spice, reminiscent of both Indian and Thai food. The waitresses were very nice and gave us free coconut jelly. A must try in the San Gabriel Valley!
Had a great dinner here a while back and want to recognize the kindness of the host and delicious food (tea leaf salad and noodles). Thankfully I was able to sample food from Burma
We were in town for the weekend on business and came upon this small, unpretentious restaurant. What a treasure this is. Got to know the owner, Jone, and learn her story. What a wonderful person with a gift for preparing absolutely delicious food. We stayed well past closing enjoying our meal and conversation with her. I plan on being back in the area in a couple of months and hope to visit the restaurant again. Nothing fancy, just authentic and delicious Burmese Cuisine prepared by incredibly kind and loving hands.
Great experience at this Burmese restaurant. Owner, Joanne, was very friendly. Ordered chicken, beef, prawn curry lunch combo with mohinga soup, tea leaf salad and fried vegetable with chile sauce. Side condiment was fried bulachoun. (Not sure of spelling) Food was tasty. Fried vegetable was delicious with Chile sauce. Batter was light. Not greasey or old oil taste. Curry mixed with rice, tea leaf salad and bulachoun was excellent. Food proportions good. Prices reasonable. We will return! 👍
My fiancé and I were at this restaurant over the weekend and we both loved it. We found it through the Happy Cow app and just as someone had mentioned, the owner was really nice and helpful with suggestions for vegetarian dishes. She was so friendly and made us feel so welcome and at home. Personally, I loved the samosas and the garlic noodles with tofu. Everything was tasty and had a home-cooked feel to it. Definitely plan to go back and try more dishes.
The food was excellent. We ordered green tea leaves salad, papaya salad, fish cake curry, Shan noodles and Coconut curry noodles along with Bayar and burmese tofu. The service was also excellent and the people were very friendly.
