Montebello Pho & Sandwich

We had a menu that was on the counter a few weeks ago and when we came out the prices on the actual board were quite different and quite pricey for the portions given I was really excited to learn about this place not so far from home but unless they're willing to tweek the food flavors and potions to go along with the new prices I might not be back. I ordered the large combo pho and my sister the regular brisket only pho. Both served in the same container hers had regular noodles and plenty of meat, mine had way more noodles but hardly any meat I paid more for mine, go figure

I was in California on business and we were having a craving for Pho, so after a bit of a search we found a few places, we happened on Montebello Pho & Sandwich. Initially the GPS didn't do us any favors and got us lost twice saying we were at the address, but it is a little behind where the GPS sent us. We almost gave up but then eventually figured it out and I am so glad we did. Montebello Pho & Sandwich is one of the best Pho restaurants I have been to while I was in California!!! First off, I had never seen a Pho place with a drive thru, that was amazing!!! The menu was quite different than what I'm used to in Canada at a Pho place, but it still had all the staple items you would expect ... The service was great and the owners were very friendly. I found eating on the outdoor patio while the sun was setting was such a nicer experience than I'm used to for a Pho restaurant. We shared a few starters and each got a meal and no one was disappointed with what they got. The bubble tea was tasty and was a nice completion to the already great meal. All and all next time I go back to California I hope I get to stop in for another meal. 5/5 for sure !!!

First time impression - not very Vietnamese. This place is for intro into Vietnamese foodies. Pro:The staff was very attentive. They were all working 100% during lunch hour. I got my mild ice coffee within a minutes. The young asian male staffer gets 5 stars for efforts. I asked him if their Banh Mi has pate and he said no. The Banh Mi is just a sandwich without pate spread. The pork Banh Mi was no good. Bread was toasted but had the wrong flavor. Pork need more flavor. The more I ate the Banh Mi the less I liked it so I'm giving it 1 star. I couldn't eat anymore so I snap a picture of what I left. Meal came out to $9.80. Their ice coffe is no cafe s.d.. Barely has the signature Vietnamese taste. Maybe they not using condensed milk? Tastes like a darker iced coffee. Verdict: I will not be returning. I feel really bad leaving a bad review because the staff was working their butt off. Next time I'll drive north a mile or 3 to Monterrey Park for Vietnamese.

I really enjoy Vietnamese cuisine and expected good results from this venue. I think the dishes I had were staples for a Vietnam restaurant in the US. Unfortunately the spring roll had some issues with pork meat scent and flavor that was overwhelming the shrimp and lettuce. Also the rice vermicelli bowl suffered because of a bit stiff grilled pork that was hard to chew. I think the chef mixed cuts of pork and some pieces were not tender. Secondly the vermicelli for the dish should have been chilled since it is a cold dish with grilled meat on top. Maybe I will try their Vietnamese sandwiches instead next time. They have covered outside seating when the weather is good and also they have a drive through which is convenient.
