The new Chef is the best we have experienced in this area for years. Every meal is delicious perfectly cooked. Seasoned and served. The 24 guests for our 60th anniversary loved every bite. The service by Sue is efficient , fun, and so warm and friendly.
The Chef made the most beautiful and DELICIOUS cake any of us have experienced. We are so happy he is available to make a special cake for on sites events or take home. The cake would be a spectacular wedding cake too.
What can we see, every person said "we plan to come back to Blackwater often". Our picky hamburger eaters said the hamburger was the best ever. The prime rib amazed all and each enjoyed every bite. The Salmon eaters said it was perfectly prepared.
Thanks to all at Blackwater Cafew for making our anniversary a night to remember.

Breakfast was disappointing. I want to like this place. I really do. The first time we went for dinner, it was very good. And the second time was ok. But breakfast this morning was disappointing. My eggs, though cooked perfectly, were cold, and my grits were cold and congealed. Getting the food to the table while it's still hot would be a big improvement.
Good service, food was ok nothing to write home about. Comfortable feel and friendly staff, by no means as good as it gets, but we will be back.

Never had a meal I did not like. They will even have a pick up order ready for you if you wish to eat at home.
If it's raining they meet you with an umbrella and always a smile.

What a delightful evening over the summer! I am not sure why it had taken us so long to try this place out. The Sunday $4 Martinis and 1/2 Price Apps (Truffle fries!) specials were awesome. And, the rest of our food was just as great - Pork chop and Shrimp & Grits entrees, Key lime cheesecake dessert. The service was also top notch, which is so rare to find these days since Covid. Thank you for a wonderful meal. This is honestly the best meal we have enjoyed at the lake to-date. Looking forward to returning again soon! 🥰
Finally came in for dinner after having amazing take out. Our waitress, Jordan was amazingly friendly and knowledgeable! The food was to die for, I have never had a pork chop so flavorful and juicy! And you HAVE to get the crab fries and desserts with HOMEMADE whipped cream! We will be back
Absolutely incredible! Jordan was the best server and our food was AMAZING! We had such yummy drinks, appetizers, meals, and desserts! Their martinis are yummy! We already can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend! This place is a MUST if you are at SML!
Didn't realize reservations were recommended. Wasn't an issue. They were glad to serve us and everything was good...from service to food. Got the chicken and waffles (special) and Mahi.
My husband and I enjoyed dinner at the Blackwater Cafe last night. The food was good. He had the fried shrimp and I had panned fried Mahi mahi. The breading on the shrimp was light and crisp. The fish was tender with a light nicely flavored white sauce. The bartender served up an excellent Old Fashion and then a Chocolate Martini for dessert. We will ask for our waitress, Rachel again. She was attentive, personable and friendly without being too much.
The real reason for the 5 star rating though is for what happened after we left the restaurant. I accidentally left my purse hooked over my chair. Today the owner returned it to me at our lake house after researching our address. Kudos to him. That is definitely going above and beyond what would be expected.
When visiting SML we always have to have dinner at Blackwater Cafe. The food is amazing, the staff are so accommodating, the atmosphere is relaxing & the Chef John is spot on! I love the pan seared salmon & the NY Strip was cooked perfectly to order. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon!
Wonderful experience!!! A very inviting restaurant with a warm and cozy atmosphere. Service was phenomenal (thanks Chris) food was great. Excited to come back and try some other things like the salmon, prime rib, some of their alfredo. Apparently everything is made from scratch and it definitely tasted like it. The restaurant was super clean and the food came out fast and hot. I had the pulled pork sandwich which came out I believe on a brioche bun with a side of french fries.
My favorite restaurant at Smith Mt Lake. Over 15 years I’ve had Consistently Outstanding food and service. Relaxed atmosphere. Love it
