Nova Espresso

My FAVORITE place in mobile to grab a cup of coffee! Forget Starbucks!! The atmosphere is very nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Outside you’ll find a taco food truck that has amaaaazzzinnng street tacos. Nova is also very dog friendly so me and Eugene come here often when we have free time. It’s also a nice place to just hangout for a few hours with some friends. Great music, outdoor heaters ( for when it’s cold ), string lights, and a great staff makes this the top coffee shop in mobile in my book.

The place is magnificent, the staff lovely, and the coffee is delicious. The only off-kilter thing I notice is the music: it most often is really loud complex dream pop or shoegaze which I adore, but it’s not really a suitable environment for that sound. It’s a breezy, open café space playing like Beach House’s saddest songs really loudly when people are enjoying themselves or working on a lovely spring day. Suddenly we’re thrown into reverb and dissonance that can just cause a confusing tone. It’s a very welcoming, naturalistic space that is an important asset to a revitalizing downtown Mobile area: the “sound of the environment” should complement that welcoming, naturalistic appeal in some way. Of course, all of this should not dissuade you from trying and enjoying Nova. My thoughts are simply professional in scope and extend from a desire to continue seeing the business thrive.

There’s coffee shops and then there’s Nova Espresso! This is the first coffee shop I ever went to when I moved to Mobile and has been my favorite ever since. Nova brings a lovely touch of big city coffee shop to the storied city of Mobile. Prices are great and it’s very rarely full inside or outside. If it is, grab it to-go! If you’ve got one day in Mobile and need to grab coffee, make it this place.
