This place had the most delicious, authentic, and reasonably priced Szechuan food in the Twin Cities. I'm in shock that they're gone. I trekked through literal snowstorms just for their mapo tofu and their chung king spicy chicken was something out of a dream. Now the dreams are all that's left. RIP Szechuan Spice.

Am I too late? Was it because I kept telling myself I'd write a review and then I'd forget? TELL ME WHY I HAD TO GO TO REDDIT TO SEE IF THEY WERE REALLY CLOSED? Google says temporarily but what does Google know? Probably lots, I dunno. Anyway uptown has taken much from me over the years...Liquor Lyles, The Green Mill...if Szechuan Spice goes the way of most uptown businesses I will silently scream in my car and then stare out of my window during a rainstorm listening to All Too Well (Taylor's Version) while dreaming of their Eggplant and Garlic or the Dan Dan noodles and slowly slipping into a deep deep state of catatonic depression. I lived for three years in Changshu, a smallish (ha!) town/city near Shanghai and Szechuan Spice was the closest thing I found to food from my Chinese home away from home. Yeah yeah yeah, there are some other good ones around the area, but there was just this SOMETHING about Szechuan Spice. DEAR GOD AND OR BUDDHA PLEASE BRING THEM BACK TO US (me, I mean, mostly me here, but to all, sure). xiè xie wǒ ài nǐ Szechuan Spice.

Love Szechuan Spice. Food has always been well-priced and tasty. But they have been ‘closed for remodeling’ since April. Recently, their sign has changed to Kung Fu Hotpot. Not sure what’s happening exactly.

The food is so delicious! I’ve tried many dishes and haven’t had a bad one yet. The service is great and they are always very nice.

Location was open for take out but website did not reflect this limitation. That is the main complaint and knock down of a star. I'm annoyed but I fully had my heart set on ordering from this establishment as part of my last day on vacation in MN. Due to food freshness, I was forced into eating this at a bus stop nearby to avoid the rain while enjoying what I could of my meal. I put in a Google request for them to update their listing to Take Out only and remove Dine In as an option. Meal was underwhelming itself. But at least I tried it out.

Szechuan Spice has such good Chinese food. I used to go to China every summer when I was little to visit family, and their dishes take me back. Really solid, authentic Chinese food. The kung pao chicken and sichuan green beans are so good. Service is fast and friendly. This isn't American-Chinese fast food, it's real dishes that you would get in China. I highly recommend trying it out!

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Minneapolis. Always consistent and delicious. Kung Pao Tofu done perfectly, crispy and fluffy. Always great service, but they run with a small staff and do a ton of take out so it sometimes takes a little while even if the place looks empty. They're super friendly tho and it's always worth the wait.

My favorite place to go when I'm visiting friends and family! Staff is friendly and professional, all the food is handmade (instead of delivered by truck and heated up). The atmosphere is pretty cozy too; the wall color goes very well with the rest of the decor. My favorite dishes are - the scallion pancakes (which I would gladly eat as my only meal for the rest of my life), and the sweet & sour fish, which is so tender you barely have to cut! Can't wait to come back and try out more of the menu! We recently ordered from here, not realizing it was not open for sit down (we were doing curbside anyway, so this wasn't an issue 🙂). Food was delicious as usual, if a little different than what I've had before, despite being the same menu items.

Loved my first time @ Szechuan Spice! I got the beef in garlic sauce, Szechuan green beans, and scallion pancakes. Flavors were great, service was fast and so friendly, and the portions are really generous for the price. We will definitely be back.

Food was alright. I tried the Dan Dan noodles since people seemed to like it. I gave it 4 stars since the service was good. We were greeted right away and since it wasnt busy we picked our seats.
